Starting at midnight on the 26th, Luceti and its inhabitants will find itself the focus of the Filial spirits, usually quiet and reclusive, now stepping out to deal with one of their own.

As promised, here is some additional information to help figure out how to play around with the spirits and interacting with similarly possessed people.

First off, each spirit has a certain time or place when they are at their most powerful. Consequently, characters possessed by them will enjoy these boosts and this in itself can be a deciding factor in what would otherwise be a stalemate. Here’s a quick run down:

Sona - She’s most powerful around lakes, rivers, and the ocean. Mostly this is concentrated at the southern lake.

Kipinn - He’s most powerful in high places, like mountain tops and the roofs of community buildings.

Faeren - She’s most powerful in the farmlands alongside things that grow.

Tsinku - He’s most powerful in the village itself, where technology thrives.

Eferin - He’s most powerful in the center of the forest where his heat may cause trees to burn. In fact, the upcoming forest fire may cause some trouble if his followers get too rowdy.

Hyt - It’s most powerful during the daytime under a bright sky.

Twila - It’s most powerful during the night time.

Nala- She has no domain and is generally welcome wherever she goes.

How possessed characters will deal with other possessed characters will depend on the interactions of the spirits themselves. A useful spreadsheet sums up these relationships. Those that have a friendly attitude to one another will generally allow ‘trespassers’ into their domain, but those they are not so friendly with may cause conflict.

Finally, to elaborate on Twila-possessed characters. Those with a natural affinity for darkness are likely to be possessed first. Once they have, they can try to recruit others less-compatible candidates to ‘join the cause’. Their goal is numbers. The more who are working with Twila, the better. Once they do, they’ll be inclined to act in their own self interest and if necessary, deal with others who try to get in their way. In the long term, the spirit Twila wants to stay this way, bonded to the Lucetians as hybrids, that way it cannot be imprisoned again. Think of it as pure survival instinct of an animal that’s spent way too long in a cage.

All isn’t lost. The other spirits may not be able to cage it again, but they won’t accept Twila reacting in this manner. Though it’s hard to tell what their beef with Twila is, they have an instinctive familiarity with the dark spirit and seem to act as its jail keepers.

They have the power to free people from Twila, but given their poor communication skills, figuring that out might just be a challenge. After all, the spirits can only communicate in shades of feeling and intentions, but not actually verbalize directions or marching orders. However, there will be a Malnosso post mid-event that will give everyone, possessed or otherwise, the info they need to turn things around.

Day 1? (No possession for little Sophie!)

[Oh, is that a person down there? He looks down at her, giving a smile and a wave, accidentally dislodging one of the birds as he does. Oops.]

Hi, I'm Florian! What about you?

[...That's a lot of birds.]

I'm Sophie.

That's Ques' tree.

[Obviously he knows who Ques is, right?]

Ques' tree? Who's Ques? Is that a person?

[Obviously not...!]

Ques is Fen's bird.

[There may or may not be a large amount of "Duh" in her tone. Sophie, be polite.]

Ooh I see. So he's got a whole tree? Like a bird mansion!

[Does that even make sense? Oh well. He flips over, now hanging by his legs from the tree branch, and waves his arms cheerfully.]

Queessss are you heeeerreee? Hellooo~!

[WHOA that is cool. She's going to need to try that! (Somewhere, her guardians are screaming.)

But later. First she needs to help this guy find Ques. She takes in a huge lungful of air, and:]

QUES! QUEEES!

[Together they can make all the responsible adults in Luceti start screaming in horror. First, though! Is Ques coming is he is he? Florian takes a deep breath aaaaand...]

QUUUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEeeee--[let's see how long he can hold out before putting on that s!]

[Partway through that gigantic yell, Florian is going to be interrupted by a loud squawk. A moment later, a five-foot bird will hop out of the surrounding forest and give him the stink-eye. And just what do you think you're doing in his tree, mister?

Sophie, for her part, doesn't notice. Instead, she smiles and toddles on over.]

Hi Ques!

[positivelycharged]

[Sadly, that stink-eye is hard to recognize when he's still hanging upside-down. Wow he's starting to get dizzy...]

...Hi Ques!

[Florian attempts to wave at the bird, then tries to swing himself back up. Swing, swing, swing--and he would have totally failed if he didn't have gigantic wings to blow himself back upright.]

[Ques would be hopping closer, except he's a bit distracted by Sophie patting him. So, well, have a sound that's sort of like "wark" and a few ruffled feathers.]

Come see him.

[Never mind that Florian can see him perfectly fine from the tree--she means come meet him.]

Okay.

[He hops down off the branch, slowing his descent with a gust of air, and cheerfully approaches the bird.]

Nice to meet you, Ques!

[Reaching out a hand....]

[You've left the heart of his territory, and so Ques only looks at that hand with curiosity. Is the kid going to feed him now?

Sophie, for her part, is now concentrating on something else entirely.]

That's not fair. [She flaps her tiny little wings in irritation. How come everyone else can fly but her?]

[Well he was going to pet him, but he got distracted by Sophie, so his hand's just sorta stuck in the air. Sorry Ques.]

What's not fair?

[Flapping his own wings in...curiosity mainly.]

[Okay, fine, then Ques is just going to prod your hand with his beak a bit, Florian. Where's the food?]

That. [She points at his wings.]

[positivelycharged]

--Oh, that!

[He flaps again, and pets Ques's beak because that's totally what Ques was asking for right?]

I woke up like this today, isn't it great? I can fly and everything!

[Not...quite. Ques ducks his head a little, looking mildly disgruntled, then nudges Florian's hand a little harder. Dude. Where is the food.]

I can't fly.

[It's abundantly clear from Sophie's tone that this was a gross oversight on the part of the Malnosso.]

[Sorry Ques, the only food he's got is maybe a couple crumbs from breakfast caught in his clothes somewhere. He frowns a bit at that comment though. It's true, her wings are still tiny! This is a true travesty.]

Hmm.....maybe I could carry you?

[She immediately perks up.]

Okay!

[She holds out her arms. What are you waiting for, dude?]

Okay, let's go!

[He pulls her into his arms and starts flapping for liftoff! This is the right way to hold her, right? It's totally the right way.]

[Sure it is, as long as you don't mind Sophie doing her best impression of a monkey. Totally clinging on with no thought whatsoever dedicated to Florian's comfort.]

Let's go up high!

[At least she's not scared?]

[Whoa monkey grabbing--he can handle it! He can do this!!]

Up into the clouds~!

[Who in the world would be scared of something so awesome!!!]

[Not Sophie, that's for sure, because she is a total badass.]

Ques, meanwhile, is too lazy to actually fly, so he's just going to stare up at the two of them, ruffle his feathers, and let out a "Wark?" Where are you taking her, stranger?]

[He has no idea where he's taking her, Ques!!]

[Does Florian even have the energy to get that far with a passenger.....]
