That Sacred Arrangement....

Who: [livejournal.com profile] wise_maiden and [livejournal.com profile] lists_to_port; We are leaving this log WIDE OPEN. So if you are family or friends, you are invited and may mingle or gossip or be all dressed up or get drunk or do the electric slide or WHAT HAVE YOU. Are there any Wedding Crashers in Luceti? Ha!
What: Wedding
When: Monday afternoon
Where: That spot with the lilacs by the river in that meadow west of the village. You know that spot---we know you know that spot.
Summary: Jack and Raine get married, and everyone ships it hard forever.
Rating: G I expect? It's so hard to tell sometimes.

On the morning of his wedding, Jack sat bolt upright in bed and then vomited onto the floor. Several minutes after that were spent dry-heaving and gasping for breath, and then another several minutes crawling to the bathroom to put his head under the shower. Cold water---it brought back reality and rationality, and erased dreams of being a pirate and dying in some war and having a best mate and a lover who had always been forbidden him---ever since Jack Horner's lesson and the two weeks following it.

Sparrow figured it was a case of wedding nerves. Strange dreams were a new thing for him, after all--normally he slept dreamlessly and woke up alert.

Later, as he stood in the quiet meadow he and Raine had chosen for their ceremony among the fragrant lilac trees, that morning dream was forgotten. Sparrow was calm. Happy. Clean-shaven and dressed in the attire Buffy had picked out for him and eagerly waiting for his beautiful bride.

It was her wedding day, and it was hard not be troubled by the contrasts of the day--knowing where she was going, with pangs for what she was leaving behind. But it was a step, and women made that step eventually, leaving home for their new lives. For her it had come slowly, and Sayo had needed her.

And it wasn't as if she wouldn't visit, keep in contact as much as possible. That would never change--she just wouldn't be there at the end of the day.

"It's more than I could ever have imagined." She had been to some unique weddings over the years, and they all differed. This was smaller, simpler, and that's what made it feel right. "I wonder if I have to keep pinching myself to remind myself that I am awake."

Sayo reached up to brush her daughter's bangs back, smiling in that sort of peaceful way—Things would work out, and it's all wonderful. She was glad to hear those words, because she was glad they matched her own. Even though there would be yet another little empty place in the household, there would be a place created in another. Her daughter's place. She was glad to see her have one with a man she loved.

"I'm proud of you—and I know the others are, too. Though, you'll have to promise to bring everyone over for dinner every so often, mm?"

"There's no doubt about that, Mother." After all, Raine was already planning to keep in touch and visit as much as she could, despite how far away the move was. "I still expect to see you and Mithos quite often, you know."

"Oh, of course!" She leans in nudging a little, joking, "And I can give Jack some cooking lessons, for when you're needing a cook other than yourself."

"I'm sure he would appreciate that." Even if between the two of them, Jack is likely the better cook already. "I will miss our dinners around the table. You've always made that so special."

Her look softens fondly at that.

"We all made them special, Raine—and I know we'll keep continuing to make them special, every so often when you come by. As long as you promise to bring the grandboys over, of course!"
