EVENT LOG: SCAVENGER HUNT

Who: All you scavenger hunters!
What: Scavenging and other fantabulousness, I suppose.
When: November 24th to 28th
Where: The whole village! And yet also all over time and space...
Summary: See this post for more info.
Rating: P for Points! (Keep it PGish, folks. Anything worthy of a higher rating can be brought to your appointments posts.)

As announced by CJ, the village's immediate environs are divided up according to this map. There are five areas: the Nile, Ice Age, Space Opera, Shogunate, and Gangland. Time-and-place appropriate architecture and conjured up NPCs exist in each area.

Don't forget the scavenger hunt! While actually finding things is ultimatly optional, you can find more information on the hunt here. If you want to claim a reward from the hunt, be sure to link at least two related threads on the new rewards claims post.

Finally, here's a quick rundown of the objects:
- In THE NILE: A ceremonial dagger and a piece of Pharoah's treasure
- In GANGLAND: A tommy gun and a set of car keys
- In ICE AGE: A bone spear and a smilodon's tooth
- In SPACE OPERA: a raygun and part of a robot
- In SHOGUNATE: a samurai sword and water from a kappa's head

Happy hunting!

[Fenimore doesn't have so much time to be able to devote to the scavenger hunt. Even if people don't die there, she's not taking Sophie with her on it (though she might be able to be found with the curious little girl in tow sticking to the safest parts). Still, with what time she has, she's definitely going to do her best to finish it, so she can be found in the various areas dressed appropriately and lugging a bag of knicknacks she'd grabbed from the various free shops. The easiest way to do this is by trading, right?

In the ice age, Fenimore could reasonably be mistaken for one of the hunter-gatherers, obscured by the cloak as she is and holding on to one of their spears. The spear was the first thing she managed to get, after realizing that, without access to the grocery store, salt was a valuable resource to trade with. However, she's still down one tooth and, even after quizzing the hunters, it's going to be a difficult thing to find a dead smilodon without running into a living one. So she's basically searching randomly.

In the Nile, she can be found watching the priests go about their business rather morosely. The first few priests she'd encountered had been rather offended by the attempt to trade for their daggers, so she's hoping that observing them will reveal some weakness to exploit. She's starting to get the impression she's going to have to get more salt or find priests who took the holiness a little less seriously. She can also be found hesitating around the entrance to a tomb. She really doesn't like the sound of traps.

In the gangland, her bag of trinkets grows very low as she discovers that it's not easy to just pick up the rules of poker. She's been able to put her stuff up for betting, but her pile is growing very low by this point and she's no closer to a tommy gun.

In the space opera, she's really annoyed by her house getting filled with technology that is even more obscure than the stuff she'd gotten rid of back when the village first got electricity. Her share of the cooking is going to be passable, but it's going way down in quality. Outside of her house, she can be found on top of a robot that is attempting to shake her off, driving around almost at random and spinning in place. She had tried to shut it off, but her instincts for technology (which are pretty much nonexistant) have not led her correctly, so she's just trying to hold on and find a switch, if there is one.

In the shogunate, she can sometimes be found breaking into one of the empty houses to use their kitchen. It's still unfamiliar, but it's at least a better tech level for her understanding. Even if it's really hard to get used to walking in the geta-style sandals. She's not having much luck with the hunt items here, though. She managed to find one samurai obsessed enough with Go to be willing to risk his sword if he lost, but...Fenimore is not good at these kinds of strategy games. At all. She's lost most of the items that interested the guy enough to play for and he's gotten bored with her losing all the time, so she's in the middle of trying to figure out just where she's going wrong by poking at a go board on her own. She...probably needs a new tactic here.]
infinitegrin: (Trust me)

Gangland

[Gambling, eh? Emmet's a competitive guy, and when he found (to his disappointment) that there were no trains to be found in any of the zones, he settled for gangland. It was dangerous, but it was also pretty exciting and cool. And games are just more fun!

Emmet taps on Fenimore's shoulder while she's at the table to get her attention.

[Fenimore is so intent on trying not to lose the current hand that she jolts in surprise and very nearly throws the cards into the air. She manages to slam them down onto the table beneath her arms to avoid them being seen by any of the others around the table. Said other players burst into laughter over it.

Somewhat red, she looks up at Emmet.]
...Yes?
infinitegrin: (Making someone happy)

[personal profile] infinitegrin 2012-12-03 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
[Emmet chuckles a bit himself, but mostly nods politely!]

Would you like help? I can show you how to play!

[The other players seem hesitant, as they were getting a lot out of someone who wasn't very good at playing...]
blessingone: (remind me once more)

[personal profile] blessingone 2012-12-04 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
[Fenimore, by contrast, is the opposite of hesitant.]

Well, I know how to play.... [Okay, first she has to get that out for her pride's sake, but then she's eager.] But not very well. I'd really appreciate it.
infinitegrin: (I want YOU! To fight forest fires!)

[personal profile] infinitegrin 2012-12-09 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
Right! I'll help, it's not so hard once you get the right feel for it.

[...Yeah the card dealer agrees to this. Emmet gets to hover over Fenimore's shoulder instead of getting his own hand, on the condition that he contribute to the prize pool. Emmet will put down a fancy silver watch that he got from this area.]

Alright! We can do this. Full speed ahead, to victory!
blessingone: (so much better than all this)

[Poker, you say. Well, it just so happens that somebody here is friends with a gangster who works in a casino, and he was kind enough to teach her the rules of the game quite recently--maybe even recently enough for her to remember them.

When Grune happens to find Fenimore in the middle of playing a game, she of course can't resist heading on over. She probably attracts of fair bit of attention, considering she's in quite the getup. She doesn't notice, though, because she only has eyes for her friend.]

Hello, Fenimore! Can I play too?
blessingone: (always thought that this could never be)

[personal profile] blessingone 2012-12-03 09:56 am (UTC)(link)
[Fenimore looks up and -- okay, even with her limited understanding of Orerines fashions she can tell that outfit is ridiculous (though one of the players suggests that he disagrees with that assessment when he whistles). The "what are you wearing" look meshes quite well with the "this is not a good idea" expression on her face.]

Um, this isn't the kind of game --

[She's cut off as the other players, their eyes lighting up with EASY MARK, suddenly turn very friendly for gangsters as they pull out a chair for her and exclaim what a good idea that would be.]
lostinmyway: (Sparkle sparkle!)

[personal profile] lostinmyway 2012-12-07 04:14 pm (UTC)(link)
[Grune thanks the very nice people--maybe they're new friends of Fenimore! --and beams all around before sitting down and addressing her housemate.]

Isn't the kind of game...?

[What could she mean by that?]

blessingone: (out there on the sea)

It's not really a friendly kind of game....

[One of the players leans in. "Nonsense. We're real friendly, right boys?" Nods all around.

Fenimore looks more nervous at that, even if they are just holograms.]
You have to bet things.
lostinmyway: (Hmm I wonder....)

[personal profile] lostinmyway 2012-12-28 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[Sorry, Fenimore, but that doesn't deter her in the slightest.]

Oh, what kind of things?
blessingone: (I can still smell summer)
