Who: Edward Cullen (
When: Right now.
Where: That little forest area by the river right before the town.
Summary: Edward is back! He's kinda crazy right now. We'll see what happens.
Rating: PG-13? Yeah, let's go with that, just to be safe. I'm sure there will be cursing.
His body was there, crouching on the riverbank. Pale skin glistening slightly in the light that managed to make it through the trees. His unblinking eyes glowing red.
Edward was gone. Behind his instincts, behind the monster that he was, he was sleeping. Deep in a coma while his body took over. Human blood cycled through his system. Never had there been so much, not since he was first turned, and his own blood had lingered within him. It would be enough blood to keep him from hunting for months. Enough blood, especially human blood, to make him nearly as strong as a new vampire. But not quite. Still, stronger than any amount of animal blood had ever made him.
Despite this abundance, though, he was thirsty. The monster wanted more. It was ready for the hunt. Red, glowing eyes scanning the darkness. It knew where the village was. It knew there were people there. Its senses flared at the activity. The venom in his mouth a constant reminder of his thirst, washing away the fresh taste of blood that lingered, burning his throat.
The thing that was not Edward grinned. It had complete control.
The Malnosso had fed him well, but he was ready to catch his own prey, now.

Slowly, she closed in on the edge of the forest.

Silent as always he made his way toward where he could feel the presence. At the same time though he found himself picking up another visitor.
Bella.
Well, that girl was certainly stubborn and foolish. By the feeling of things Edward's restraints have just been broken and as such...the real predator was out. This would be interesting.
The vampire had to admit that it would be highly amusing to see Edward drink from his own girlfriend. Oh, the consequences of that would be something worth seeing. Knowing the other vampire he would most likely blame himself, even if it was his true nature. Such a shame that the idiot couldn't accept that nature.
Hmmm...but who knows maybe he could have fun with his current predicament.
With that thought in mind...the vampire drew in his own energy, hiding his own presence.
Edward did deserve a warm and surprising welcome.

She was already looking for him. It took a certain restraint for him to not bolt after her as soon as he picked her up. He wouldn't have any trouble, she might not even run. This was a familiar body to her. He could just appear behind her, biting her would be easy. Chemicals in her blood would spread fear through her as she realized much to late what was happening to her. And then the pain- it would all make it taste so much better. Even better. The events played through his mind. Humans were so predictable. It would make him hungry for more. He would kill her slowly, she would scream. He would love it.
But something held him back. Was there something else? His ears perked slightly and he inhaled deeply. A familiar scent, but nothing Edward had been afraid of. The vampire compiled any memories related to the scent. Weakness. Nothing that would stop him from the hunt, and so it pushed the information away.
He began to make wide circles around his prey, stalking in the opposite direction of the distant, faintly familiar scent. He would play, first, the taste fear would add gave him patience. There was no need to rush.

She was completely exhausted, and it showed. Her hair was a mess, and she was dirty. Her throat was dry from not drinking or eating as much as usual, and she looked just a bit thinner. Her movements were sluggish, and slower then was normal for her, and her eyes looked lost. She was sure it would be another night of no sleep for her. After all, how could she sleep without him around? It just wasn't the same.

The thought brought a smirk to the redhead's lips. He was such a hypocrite. Wasn't he holding back most of his instincts and darker self? Than again, all in good time. A hand reached for the mark on his lower-stomach.
All in good time indeed...and Edward would definitely know what he was referring to in the future. Besides the boy was adamant enough about knowing. A flicker of movement and his gaze was moving toward Bella.
That girl...was definitely so much like that Mimiko girl. Stubborn and foolish, wasn't that a nice combination? He crossed his arms over his chest and leaned a bit further against the tree, his pose lazy and uninterested.
To be honest, Bella wasn't the first mortal to care for a vampire and she wouldn't be the last...
One thing never changed though...
There was never a happy ending.

As Bella drew even closer, Edward stopped shaking and became perfectly still, breathing slowly to keep her scent building inside him. It stirred his mind, sending it into chaos. A hundred different ways he could kill her flickering by in an instant.
He didn't need to be so silent with such an easy prey, he knew, but it was instinct. And right now, that was all there was.

"Edward..." She said under her breath. Her voice came off disbelieving, and her eyes widened, not in fright, but minor surprise. Was it really him?
Tears came to her eyes without her noticing, and nothing about her indicated any fear of him as she ran towards him in an attempt to close the distance between them.

Within the blink of an eye, he was appearing between the human and the vampire, red eyes bright in the darkness.
"Hello, Edward." Fangs instinctively got bared, a clear challenging indication to the other vampire. A little push here and there...and he could bring out more of that darker side. Oh, he could have some fun.
Without looking back, he addressed Bella.
"Little girl, unless you want to become food, I would stop right now."
He wasn't about to turn his back on the little crazy boy at this moment. After all, you never turned your back on a predator.

The sudden appearance of Zelman had caught it off-guard. It pushed any remaining thoughts away, leaving his body to fend on its own. Any strategy he had before, any sanity, was discarded. Zelman had just put himself in between a predator and his prey. Edward was built to kill, and that was what the vampire intended to do.
A loud snarl ripped through his body as he made an attempt to spring off to the side, using speed to get around the obstacle without even pausing in front of it. His own teeth were bared in response to Zelman's. He could smell his own venom on his breath. It was a warning different from the other's. He only needed to get close enough for a moment.
no subject
When he made a move to get to her, she stood there, welcoming him to come. As far as she was concerned, as long as it was for Edward, then she didn't care what happened to her.
no subject
Sadly for Edward that move wasn't about to work. Matching his speed the vampire moved, making sure to block the other's path from the willing prey.
"Not so fast." He shifted again, body ready to move and avoid any incoming attack. The vampire knew that by blocking the other's way, he was asking for confrontation...but at the moment he did not care.
The girl though had to move soon or he had no qualms about knocking her down if she was in the way.
no subject
After a minute or so, he leaped back and sprang forward with more force than before, pushing himself to the highest speed he could with such a short distance, teeth completely bared now. His aim is perfectly accurate so if Zelman gets out of the way fast enough, his teeth with close with a nice snap where Zelman's torso had been. A larger target that required full body movement. He didn't need much, just a break in the skin...
If he misses he'll be lunging again as soon as he lands, trying again.
no subject
"Edward!" She screamed out, hoping it might get through to him. This wasn't right. None of it was right.
no subject
Foolish, you never attacked a vampire older than you, especially not when you didn't know what he was capable of. Bella's scream feel on deaf ears. The girl had to see this...she had to see the true nature of a vampire. For a moment, he wondered how strong her belief in the other would be. Yet the next moment, his attention is completely focused on Edward.
"Stupid, harness that animalism..."
Eyes glowed brighter, the red seeming almost like fire now. Hide Hand had been activated and poor Edward was going to feel like he just slammed into a wall.
no subject
But then he did crash into that wall and all of his thoughts were buried again, taken over as his senses flared at the sudden threat. Pain shot through him as the loud cracking noise filled his ears, as if it were granite hitting the wall rather than a body.
Edward landed in a crouching position a yard or so back, shaking his head and hissing loudly before changing his angle and lunging for Zelman again. It will take him at least two more tries to get the message that there was a wall there.
no subject
That's when her feet began moving on their own. She knew she was unable to stop them even if she wanted to do that. As quick as she could, she ran into the middle of the fight.
no subject
Such weakness was disgusting.
Of course Bella's action could stop his fun and he wasn't about to have that. He could care less if Edward chose to tear her apart at the moment, but if the predator caught his prey than he wouldn't want to play anymore.
...and that would be far too boring.
It only took Zelman moment to erect the barrier in front of Bella, purposely leaving himself open.
Now it was up to Edward if he took the bait.
no subject
He's aiming for the other vampire's neck, this time. His arms are outstretched, ready to grab, break, and/or tear, and his own brilliant red eyes are focused on Zelman's own.
He'll be taking another snap at Zelman when he gets close enough, as well.
If he gets close enough, that is, within that fourth of a second it takes him to strike.
Think fast.
no subject
"Edward!" She cried out to him.
no subject
However instead of backing away, he launched forward, only to slide to the side at the last second avoiding Edward's attacks.
She could hear Bella cry out Edward's name, but he once again paid little heed to it. Instead eyes glowed brightly and flames seemed to flare to life in front of Edward.
It was the vampire's turn to think quick or be burned by the flames.
I had to use it. I just had to.
Lucky for him, though, he does have that instinct to avoid fire, and it was high on the priority scale. Fire meant danger to his kind.
He was distracted as soon as Bella's voice had sounded, the same familiar look flickering across his face. The look was replaced by confusion, though, as Zelman's body disappeared off to the side and was replaced by a wall of fire. Having previously lunged through the air, Edward had no way to stop himself. He passed through the flames, unable to do anything but glare at Zelman as he did so.
The look didn't last long, however, for the feeling of being scalded made him cringe into himself. The snarl that he had been building changed into a hiss, and then a strangled scream. A mixture of pain and fury.
Edward managed to recover himself right before he hit the ground, skidding a ways on one hand and foot in a crouching position as he spun to continue his eye contact with Zelman.
Parts of his clothes had singed away, exposing bits of his torso in places, where wisps of flame still danced across the surface before extinguishing against his skin. A pale lavender smoke, which had accompanied the flame, faded shortly after as his skin began to cool. Faint scents of burning incense, a small portion of what his death would smell like, filled Edward's head.
Sadly, Bella's blood had made up his mind long ago. If he had to, he would fight to the death in order to get it. He wouldn't be running away any time soon.
He lunged again, hoping to pin Zelman in any opening left after the fire had appeared.
The pain inflicted on him had only built on the rage Edward was directing towards Zelman. His skin was still searing as he flew towards the other, yet again.
no subject
The thoughts went through her head, one after another. Most wouldn't work because of the barrier Zelman on put in front of her, but there was one last thing she could try. She was sure if it worked, that Edward would be furious with her later, but she had to try. She had to do everything she could to fix this.
With that, she ran to find something sharp. She was successful in finding a sharply pointed rock. It would work perfectly for what she had planned. She made her way back to the battle, keeping herself far enough away so that even with their speed, they wouldn't be able to stop her before it was too late. With that, she jabbed her arm hard enough to make it bleed. She felt the pain in her left arm, and the blood running down it. This was only to get the two vampires attention though, as she lifted the sharp rock to her heart, and pressed it into her chest just enough so it wouldn't puncture yet. She set it up so that she would automatically pierce her heart if they made any sort of move without hesitation, despite her shaking hands. Even with their speed, they wouldn't be able to stop her. Her face was determined to do this if it came to it.

The look in Edward's eyes promised pain and perhaps even his destruction if he allowed it...and it was so fucking beautiful. Fangs were instinctively bared as the vampire allowed a little more of his control to slip. The release, so delicious and sinful. Eyes narrowed only the slightest bit as he waited on Edward.
As expected the vampire threw himself once again against him. The scent of burning flesh emanating strongly from him, feeding that dark hunger inside the red eyed murderer.
And yet with his instincts so close to the surface, it was no surprise when the scent of blood seemed to slam into him, rendering him startled for a brief moment. Copper, red, sweet, intoxicating, the delicious scent filled the clearing, drowning his own heightened senses.
Body which had been moving, ready to defend and attack, slowed down while red burning eyes flickered to Bella, the carmine pools settling on the crimson liquid flowing so freely.
However it took him only a few seconds to realize his mistake, he had allowed himself open for an attack...
no subject
Another strange cry escaped him, as if he were being burned again, as soon as the scent intensified with the flow of blood. Though this one was different than before. Despair instead of rage.
Edward was awake, now, and he was fighting. Bella had done just about the worst thing she could possibly have done to herself. She may as well sign her death certificate now in her own blood.
But he had to do something, the part of himself that he hated had made the plans as soon as it smelled her. It didn't care about the finer details anymore, it couldn't. It planned to change direction as soon as it landed, ignoring the sharp object posed near her heart. Her blood was spilled already, and it was cooling more and more every second.
Edward began to desperately attempt reasoning with himself. Throwing scenario after scenario through his mind, again and again, doing everything and anything he could to stall the moment he would spring at her.
He finally felt something waver during the last seconds of attempted reason. There was someone else here, the other. He was a vampire, too. He could match his speed. He could interfere within a moment's notice. She would pierce herself and, while they fought, she would die there. So much of her precious blood would be wasted...
Unless he got rid of the other vampire, first.
Edward was already midway through the attack, and all it took was a break in the skin. He could disable the redhead and finish him off later. He could provide the will power, it just needed to wait for the most opportune moment to finish the hunt...
And it worked. The thought of her blood soaking into the ground, growing cold and dirty, convinced him. It would only be a few seconds, and he had lasted this long already...With that time, he could get control. He had to get control.
Edward hardly had to brace himself as he slammed his hard body against Zelman, with enough force that should send them both into the ground. Half a second later and his mouth would be at the other's throat.
But what then? His eyes would flicker to Bella, conflict raging behind the red irises. Once Zelman was dealt with, would he be able to stop himself from going after the girl? Maybe the venom wouldn't have any more affect on the other vampire as it had with him. Would Bella stab herself anyway once he bit? How much control did Zelman have at the moment? If Edward let him go without hurting him, would he still go after Bella?
Was he willing to take that chance?
A long second passed as he hesitated with his decision. But a second or two was all it took. The point was to stall, to gain more control. He refused to give in and hurt Bella. If it meant biting Zelman over her, then that was what he would have to do. At the very least, he wasn't in danger of losing anything worse than his life. It was too late for him.
If he doesn't act, Zelman will have a decent amount of venom entering his body. Edward didn't know what would happen, but he didn't trust Zelman at this point. He couldn't, especially not after Bella had been bleeding everywhere. Zelman was a threat to her safety, a bigger threat than she was to herself, a threat that he wouldn't be able to control like this.
He only hoped that Bella had understood the look on his face. That he was here, that she didn't need to stab herself.
If she died, he wouldn't be able to take it. He would have to follow.

Tiny pinpricks instantly shot up his neck, the poison feeling like nothing less than a distant sting, but enough to feel uncomfortable. Like he had told Edward before, the only poison to him is silver after all.
Still anger, hot and unforgiving shot through the redheaded vampire. Thoughts quickly focused on one thing. The other had dared to bite him. His blood had been greedily drunk by some unworthy brat. Red eyes shifted to amber and his own energy darkened around him, the shadows seeming to come alive out of Old Blood.
Like wildfire, he could feel his own power rushing out of him. It was up to Edward if he moved fast enough, for at the moment his control had just slipped and the fires of hell would be released.
no subject
But it didn't last long. The venom wasn't working, and the chances of Edward's back-up plan coming into play had just dropped next to nothing. Edward knew that it was a possibility that it wouldn't turn out the way he had hoped, but he never imagined it to have such little effect.
He was already backing away when Zelman's eyes lit up, but he was too late. The feeling of being cremated alive came over Edward again as he jumped out of the way, only to stumble a landing a few feet behind Zelman, flames dancing across his smoking skin. He faced Zelman, straitening up again.
Edward's eyes became an even brighter shade of red as the new blood passed through his system. He stared Zelman down with them, ready to dodge whatever else was about to come at him. If he had the chance, he would make his attack as well, breaking whatever came within reach. With luck, the redhead's neck.
He knew Zelman's body had a limit and now he would have to try and reach it...

She continued to watch everything with eyes wide with shock. She was scared that she might lose Edward, and she knew she wouldn't be able to bear it if that happened. She couldn't lose him, not again.

"How dare you drink from me?" His voice was eerily calm, but the danger that those words emanated could not be missed. There was something suddenly so very dark about the vampire that the air around them seemed almost suffocating all of the sudden, his presence seeming to fill the air all around them.
The fire still flared around him, the heat feeling almost like the lover's caress. Fire was usually fatal to vampires, but to him it was life, it was his essence. If the fire were to die one day, he would gladly die with it.
And right now the fire was hungry, it wanted to destroy. One hand came up. Edward was going to get acquainted with Hide Hand. He was going to feel like a hard wall just got knocked into him. Only to feel afterwards as an invisible hand wrapped around his neck, squeezing and trying to snap his neck.
This would be only a distraction though. For the next moment, Zelman would be appearing behind Edward, fangs bared.
Even through his anger, one thing was far too demanding. He needed to show his dominance...he needed to bite the other vampire...to stake his superiority.
no subject
Of course, that wasn't a problem. Edward didn't need to breath and it would take a lot more force to snap any of his bones.
The lack of scent did, however, set the vampire's instincts on edge. He was suddenly hyper aware of the sudden movement behind him and the threat that lurked there.
Sure, he knew that Zelman's bite wouldn't hurt him, but if this was a fight for dominance, then Edward refused to give in. He was going to fight back.
He'll be demonstrating a well practiced dodge, seeming to appear in a landing position only a few feet away and facing Zelman again.
no subject
She didn't like any of this. She wasn't even completely sure if Edward had come back to his senses. All she knew is that he had stopped trying to lunge at her, and now he seemed to be paying attention to Zelman.
"Stop it! Both of you!" She cried out. The sooner they stopped, the sooner she'd have Edward again. She wanted to be selfish right now.
