Summary: Yuri wants to use the Training School for Brave Vesperia, Alexei wants to test his abilities first before making the final decision.

Yuri and Alexei have finally settle on a day and time to have their match now that things have calmed down in Luceti, for the most part. Today was that day and Alexei had already gone down early to the barracks to wait for his opponent. This wasn't exactly the first time he had fought Yuri, but this will be the first time where they would be fighting one-on-one. He didn't believe he had anything to be concern about with this match. If anything, this was an opportunity to gauge Yuri's actual abilities.

[Even with all the time he had to deal with this, Yuri was still annoyed at the fact that Alexei of all people was in charge of one of the few things that could help Brave Vesperia better themselves as a guild. It was especially annoying that he had to prove himself to a bastard like Alexei on top of all that.

... But at the same time, it was a free shot at taking more than a few swings at Alexei without anyone getting on his case about it. And that was certainly a plus to him.

So, earlier than the given time, but later than Alexei, Yuri will be showing up to the barracks as well.]

[Raven didn't really want to be here but someone has to make sure Yuri doesn't try to rip Alexei's head off. He'd much rather be at the bar, doing his shift, maybe sneaking in a few drinks in the process.

So he's tagged along with Yuri, albeit slightly behind because you're early and he's in no rush. He'll arrive around the same time way after Yuri.]

[Alexei had just picked a sword that was in storage when Yuri arrives. He says nothing to him at first, mildly surprised Yuri came as early as he did. Maybe it was just the impression he had of Yuri, that he didn't seem the type to come early.]

We'll be using the weapons supplied here. I'll tell you how this duel will be decided once you've picked your weapon.

[And he'll leave Yuri to that. Meaning, he doesn't want to hear Yuri complain that he can't use his own weapon.

When it gets closer to the time, he'll notice Raven making his way over to the barracks as well...]

I take it you're here to observe our match?

[Yuri just shrugs, mutters out a "Whatever." and heads for where the weapons are, tossing the sword he brought with him off to the side near the entrance. He's kind of annoyed by this, but at the same time, it makes it fair.

So yeah, he'll be getting that, you two old people can talk or something.]

[He'll go sit on top of a pile of wooden planks because damn right he ain't staying on that floor with you guys fighting.]

Huh? Oh... this old man is just here to make sure you guys don't kill one another.

[...]

I think we're both aware that wouldn't benefit either of us in a place like this, but I suppose we could use a spectator.

[Yuri isn't a million miles away or anything, so he's overhearing this. That exchange makes him raise an eyebrow as he finishes off choosing which one of the standard swords he wants to use for this. Don't start assuming you know his thought process, Alexei |: Even if you're more or less right in this assumption.

But, well, he's got the sword he wants to use now, so he'll just walks toward the middle of the room.]

Let's get this over with. You can chat later.

[He'll say whatever he feels like saying. He turns his attention back to Yuri, moving to position as well.]

This match will end when one of us disarms the other or gets knock down. And of course, you already know using artes is prohibit in this match. [He readies his blade]

Whenever you're ready. I'll let you have the first move.

[That last line earns Alexei a rather cold look, which really shouldn't be surprising. Like he needs a handicap ...

But whatever.]

Fine. [A few seconds to ready himself, and--] Let's go!

[Charging now, sword at the ready.]

[Alexei raises his blade before him to defend himself. He doesn't know what to expect from Yuri yet, so he'll stand his ground and wait.]

[Once he's within range, Yuri makes a decently basic first move - a horizontal swing. ... He's just swinging rather hard, is the only real difference. Sure, it's kind of a waste of a "first move", but considering this isn't a "real fight" and all, he'd rather just get the make-a-swing-that'll-obviously-be-blocked part over with.]

[Blocked it was. There was good pressure behind it that move though, he'll give him that. He makes a quick forward motion, attempting to push Yuri back with a parry. If that succeeds, he'll raise his sword to the right and return with a downward diagonal swing towards Yuri.]

[This is indeed successful! Although, Yuri is very quick to react, swinging his own blade in an upwards diagonal motion to meet Alexei's. It's not as strong a swing as before, thanks to Alexei's parry throwing him off a little, but it's definitely not a weak or half-hearted one either.]

[~~Press Triangle for reaction time~~. It was enough to stop the attack. Impressive, he'll give him that. Letting Yuri believe he had stopped him, Alexei will attempt to "roll" his sword under Yuri's blade, using his strength against him and then swing his sword upward to deflect Yuri away and probably make him even more off balance.]

[Also successful! Mostly, at least. As soon as Alexei "rolls" his sword under Yuri's, he decides trying to strong-arm his way around that manuever could just make things worse. It's around the time when his own sword is forced upwards that Yuri ~~backsteps~~ jumps back, making some space between himself and Alexei. Although, even if he wasn't thrown off balance, it does still take a second or so for Yuri to get his sword back into a usable fighting position.

So, no getting totally thrown off! ... But Alexei did force him to back off, at least for the moment.]

[Alexei won't give Yuri that much of an opportunity to return with an attack. He's taken the offensive this time and coming forward, aiming a little low this time with a horizontal swing.]

[Wow rude. But Yuri was expecting this to happen, more or less. He's quick to move his blade in the path of the swing, not having enough time to make a proper parry right away.

... But he does put some extra force behind his blade shortly after, trying to swing in a bit of an arc (starting horizontal, moving upward near the end).]

[When there's an opening, you take it. He's not holding back...or well, he is holding back enough so he doesn't end up seriously injuring or killing Yuri. Yuri managed to direct Alexei's sword away and he backs off momentarily.]

[When Alexei backs off, Yuri rushes in a second later, this time with a vertical swing. He's thrown enough horizontals around for the moment. Might as well switch things up a little.]

[Alexei will not block with his sword, deciding to dodge it instead. He dodges to Yuri's right, and makes an attempt to elbow him in the side. Not hard, but enough for him to feel that sting.]

[Yuri had a feeling Alexei would try to pull something during that dodge, but as he's not psychic or what have you, he doesn't get out of the way in time and does get elbowed.

Jerk. Maybe he should start punching you :|

But whatever, it wasn't that hard anyway, so he'll move away just a bit, making a horizontal swing as he does so. Although, it's done more to make sure Alexei doesn't try to do the same thing twice in succession than for any other real reason.]

[Alexei backsteps, raising his blade so that it collides with Yuri's from beneath to try and knock his off course. Think he lost a few hair strands from that return attack...nothing too serious.

Alexei will be taking a moment to recover his bearings so he won't be attacking back anytime soon.]

[It takes Yuri a moment as well to get his sword back into a usable position again after Alexei knocked it off course like that.

But it's only a moment. He'll be coming back at Alexei again with a downward diagonal swing as soon as he's done with that.]

[Alexei side-steps to avoid the attack and returns with the same move Yuri had done to him previously, a horizontal swing from his right. He'll keep going though should Yuri not block that one and make a downward diagonal swing.]

[The first swing, Yuri doesn't have the time to block properly, so he tries to dodge instead - this leads to a small cut being added to the sleeve of his shirt. Thankfully, the sword missed his arm, so a small rip in the material is all that happens there. Hell, Yuri doesn't even really notice it, and probably won't till the fight is over.

The downward diagonal swing, though, is something he manages to raise his sword against in time, blocking that blow.]

[Alexei doesn't notice he had done any damage until they were stuck in stalemate with their blades. It won't last for very long though as he steps back and turns so that the blade just slides along Yuri's as he turns back round for an upper horizontal swing.]

[Not wanting to get hit by a swing like that (especially an upper one; he likes his head where it is, thanks), Yuri is quick to step back when he sees that swing coming. Though, he does lose a few strands of hair from having to suddenly jerk back like that. ~~You're a dead man Alexei. Double-dead.~~

Right after that swing passes, though, Yuri's coming in with a downward diagonal swing.]

[Why does this attack look familiar....oh right, you did the same thing up on Zaude. He didn't have much time to react to the attack, but he manages to avoid the blade...or so he thinks. He'll find that Yuri made a cut near his shoulder by the end of this.

Which eventually it does. They may have seem almost evenly matched, but Alexei manages to get the upperhand easily enough and ended this match by disarming Yuri. Alexei doesn't really say anything after Yuri's lost though. He expected to win, but Yuri was stubborn enough to actually make it a little difficult. Just a little...and that's something he didn't exactly want to admit. Give it a few more years of training and Yuri may just become an impressive fighter.]

A good match. You managed to last a little longer than most recruits.

[After all that, Yuri definitely had no qualms about looking annoyed after Alexei manages to disarm him. Although, he did have to admit - it wasn't a bad match, and he did yards better than the last time he faced Alexei on his own (even if he can't really remember the details of that clearly anymore).

But that annoyed and frustrated look only lasts a few moments before he settles for just looking mildly aggravated. ... Or in other words, the way he usually looks when he sees Alexei. He'll settle into that look right before making a move to pick his weapon up again. No sense in leaving it on the ground, even if it wasn't his.]

Right. Aren't I lucky.

[... He could have said much worse, all things considered.]

[...]

I'll give your guild a chance to run this school. For the time being. [There's still some reluctance there, but he's trying and maybe he's a little curious to see how things will turn out.]

"For the time being", huh.

[What was that supposed to mean? Whatever, he's probably just being ~~tsun~~ a dick about it. He'll throw in a non-nonchalant shrug after that.]

Better than not at all.
