Summary: Several people have received simple, written invitations asking them to meet at the rec center for a proposal.

[This is the log in which Shikamaru collects people and they get to talking about the task at hand for disseminating information, and possibly recruits them into the agency thereafter if they're still interested. People will likely be showing up at different times, so he speaks to everyone one-on-one instead of in a group.

The proposal will be offered to each character who shows up casually - no hard feelings whatever you decide to do - but with firmness. This is a group that will be dedicated to intelligence research and analysis, not information gathering. It's nothing flashy or exciting, but he expects discretion and it's a job that shouldn't be taken lightly. Those who accept the offer will be told things should be up and running withing two weeks.]

[Lupin skated into the building a bit later than was considered 'fashionable' because of his own reservations, which were largely a reaction to the proposal. He trusted Shikamaru, but he didn't trust himself to take on other projects, especially not when he had so many other ideas that he needed to sort through.

But he was interested despite his hesitation. Shikamaru was a good resource, and he had offered his aid several months ago.

He was determined to just listen and think on the information before he made a decision, but he had a feeling that he would accept any offers just to prove himself wrong.]

[After outlining much of the above (ie. those links in my top comment), Shikamaru takes a break from his speechifying.]

[He listened carefully to the explanation, all the while thinking that this truly was something that they needed in Luceti. The information that they had was so scattered, and there was no clear order to how it fit together. He had tried to fit the fragments that he had together, but it amounted to little without more details.

However, his own paranoia couldn't be ignored.]

I have one. Shika-chan...everything around here could have ears. Are you sure it's a good idea to have everything so close to buildings that we can't tell for sure are clean?

This one doesn't, I know for sure. [He knows where Lupin is coming from - the potential of bugs was the whole reason they hid Bil all the way out in Nami's cottage, after all.] I'm in the middle of preparations as well, to get as clean a setup as I can manage for everyone to work in as well.

That's all excessive precaution, however. A man I spoke to once with a lot of knowledge about Malnosso procedure seemed to imply that not a lot of attention is given to places that are bugged around here. If they wouldn't bother when they were trying to locate Bil, they won't in a time like this.

hmm...

[He considered the explanation, and appreciated the effort that Shikamaru was putting into it.]

That's just sloppy work on their part, but that's beside the point. Not all of us regularly associate with each other--do you have an idea of how to redirect suspicion? Like, a cover?

[Because, if they were to meet regularly, they needed some kind of front--like the drop off points.]

[He grins and raises a hand, fingers extended.] I have five.

Hah~

[He returned the grin.] Shoulda known!

It's all mostly about the social implications, not the technical stuff. It's a brilliant set up...but this could put us in the same category as the very people we're trying to make sense of. There's no assurances that people will trust us...and trust us not to become corrupted ourselves.

If it comes to that, I'll make adjustments. Or put a stop to it if it gets that bad off.

This group might be doing the work, but the goal here is to keep everyone informed. It's not just about it not working. The benefit of the village, and anyone who might come to it after we're all gone, is the most important thing.

[...and if it comes to corruption, there's reasons he's not involving some of his closest friends. If it gets that bad, he knows they'll call him on it, and he'll pull the plug.

He wants to help here. But Konoha will always have his heart over Luceti.]

[He nodded in understanding, and in admiration for Shikamaru's determination. It was one of the best ideas that he had heard during his stay in Luceti, but finding every possible flaw was an old habit.]

...You sound like you have everything together.

Think so?

[He's confident of that himself, but he doesn't want anyone going into this without doubts. If there's more, lay them bare.]

Seems like. I don't work in groups very often. Not outside of my partners, anyway, and especially not on a scale like this.

[Like in June. That was a first for him.]

...It's gonna be a matter of having faith, it looks like. The people with information around here aren't always willing to share it because it's hard to trust anything. The Malnosso could decide that they do care, a Shift could make everyone forget everything, a person with a key bit of information could go home...

That's all nitpicking. [A shrug.]

This is cool. And, I admit, I'm getting tired of having to dig through our books to find everything.

[He nods to each of these, looking like he's mentally noting each one. Even if it's nitpicking, he's taking it all to heart, and will do his best to see over every precaution.]

So long as you promise not to blab about it, there's always a back door option for you too if you find it's not to your liking.

Shika-chan, you do know who you're talking to, right? [He laughed.] The only people who know what...happened in June are the ones who would have found out anyway--by my admission, unless someone else decided to tell. And the only ones who know what I got are you and Law.

I can do secrets. And...thanks for the back door.

[Different kinds of secrets, man. But he smiles, and nods once.]
