Just open your eyes
Who: Ash Ketchum, Mewtwo
What: OH GOD ARE YOU OK ASH ASH ARE YOU OK ASH
When: May 29th, evening
Where: House 11
Summary: ASH WAS HURT. IS HE OK? MEWTWO MUST KNOW.
Rating: PG...? Possibly higher for talk of awful stuff.
He had been created to fight. It was all he had done for the first conscious year of his life. Why would he not enjoy a huge battlefield, full of enemies he could go all out on? Ah, but he did understand that many lives had been obliterated there, and it did disturb him to see such carnage. But he had no illusions about life being kind or fair or clean. Once he had gotten into the battle proper, his feelings about the scenery became muted and detached.
Yet he was intelligent enough to understand that not everyone compartmentalized their emotions so easily. The jury was still out on whether or not that was a good thing - while it made him a strong fighter and a calculating enemy, he was aware that it caused him to lack something that...non-damaged creatures had. Innocence, perhaps? He was not sure of its name. What he did know was that Ash Ketchum, the human who would sacrifice himself for the lives of Pokemon, the first human to gain Mewtwo's trust and respect, did have it. It was one of the things he admired most about the human boy, his kindness and earnestness towards all creatures - the thing that made him unique, made him Ash - and he was afraid that Zompania might have ripped it all away.
The Pokemon briefly debated contacting his friend over the network, but it felt insufficient. Ash could be physically hurt - in fact, it was nearly a certainty, what with the human's tendency to run into danger without a second thought - and mentally traumatized - again, it would be almost impossible not to be, wouldn't it? - and speaking through their journals would not give him enough information about Ash's condition. So instead he waited until nightfall, then made his way to Ash's house in the village. Other trainers lived there too, he knew, but them seeing him was a risk he would have to take.
He knew which window was Ash's, and tapped lightly on the glass when he spotted the human inside.

Though it isn't so much the physical state, while still concerning, that is the biggest concern. His mental state took a huge hit. He got thrown into a situation and environment that he wasn't ready for. Even though he was able to push his confidence back up during his talk with Cilan it only took another heavy hit after. He was separated from his friend and although the bomb didn't go off a second time the first time was enough to frighten him even now.
Of course, this is where the sheer willpower sets in as even through all that Ash tries and puts on a smile whenever he comes out and talks to someone. Most of the smiles are forced, but with enough of them everything can just eventually go back to normal, right? Well, not without slipping into a state of misery when he's in his room with just Pikachu or whenever it is just his Pokemon around.
That's how he is before he hears a tap on his his window. He nearly jumped from his spot on the bed before turning and noticing that it's Mewtwo. After an attempt to dry his face from any tears that might have fallen he slipped out of bed, being careful not to wake up Pikachu in the process or aggravate any injuries he still had, and moved over to the window to open it.
"Mewtwo? What are y' doin' here?"
no subject
I wanted to see you. The telepathic voice is unusually soft and filled with concern. He leans forward through the open window, studying his friend carefully. There are some bruises still, to be sure; he gets the impression that Ash has been bruised before (how can he not, he's constantly running headfirst into every situation), but battlefield wounds are perhaps different from everyday ones.
The Pokemon pauses, then reaches out to touch Ash's face. It feels like an odd thing for him to do, he rarely makes physical contact with others, but appropriate in this situation. Your eyes are red.
no subject
"Well, it's good t' see you. But isn't it kinda late?" Not that it really mattered for Ash since he was having trouble getting to sleep, but most people don't pop up at someone's window in the middle of the night like this.
After Mewtwo studies him (bruises aren't a problem he's dealt with them before. It's the things he hasn't dealt with on a
weeklyreoccurring basis) Ash finds himself surprised as Mewtwo reached out to touch the trainer's cheek. He blinks, bringing a hand up close to one of his eyes as Mewtwo mentions their color."Ah ... It's okay. They'll be better soon." He gives the Legendary a small smile as he tries to reassure that it's not a big deal.
no subject
I do not need much sleep. He shakes his head. But you do. Yet you were awake when I arrived.
The psychic pauses again, because this is another thing he's not really used to doing. The only person who has ever really given him comfort (everyone's unique. You are too!) is in no state to give him advice.
But he's going to try. Even if he sounds awkward doing it.
The battling we were pulled into was... Awkwaarrrddd. Is...difficult to comprehend. If you need to speak about it... Eyes narrowing in concern. I would like to help you. If I can.
no subject
He rubs the back of his neck with his good arm. He's not sure what answer to give. He knows that he can't do anything but be honest but the words aren't coming to him. However, it didn't matter after Mewtwo had continued to speak. He head looks to the ground as the hand behind his neck subconsciously moves to his arm and thus to the bandaged wound that was, arguably, the most painful during the draft.
"I dunno where to begin. Every time I think about it ... it hurts."
no subject
You should not have been thrown into that battle. Later, he'll be more angry about that. The Malnosso were scum to force children to fight. (Perhaps he once had done the same, but he had learned and repented. Yet he doubted that their captors would ever do the same.)
Slowly, he tries to think up more to say. Should he apologize? Or propose to try and protect Ash from the Malnosso in the future? What was the best way to help someone who was emotionally hurt?
I dunno where to begin. Every time I think about it...
Perhaps the solution, at the moment at least, was not to think about it?
The Pokemon shifts his arms on the windowsill, wondering if this was the right way to go. Would...you like to speak about something else?
no subject
Before he could really think of anything more to say Ash hears Mewtwo's question and tilts his head. "Like what?"
Normally Ash himself could think of something but it's late and... well Mewtwo was one of his friends where he wasn't really sure what to talk about with him. Pokemon maybe? But what about Pokemon?
no subject
...Ash is different, isn't he? Not just from the draft - no, he was different even before that. He wore different clothes, and...well, okay, he didn't really act different, but Mewtwo still got the sense that some time had passed from their meeting on Mount Quena. It had been a month or two for him, but perhaps it was longer for Ash?
He smiles just the teeniest bit at his friend. He's never really had a trainer (and he never wants one, thank you very much), but he knows about their goals and activities. Such as their goal of seeing (and catching, sometimes) as many Pokemon as they can.
Have you filled out much of your Pokedex?
no subject
So Mewtwo decided that the Pokedex might be a good conversation. Ash was more than okay with this, as anything was better than what they were talking about before. He pushes through a smile as he moves a little to pick up his Pokedex from the nightstand next to his bed.
"It has a lot more information than it used t' have. Information 'bout Pokemon from up to five different regions now! I know there are probably still a lot more Pokemon out there, but I've seen so many already since I began my journey. And since I saw you in Johto."
no subject
A pause, before he climbs over the window sill into the room. Hi, hope that's cool. He reaches out for the Pokedex, curious to see what his young friend has accomplished, and smiles a little wryly. This feels kind of weird to talk about, but...Have you gotten...many...badges? He's honestly only ever seen Kanto's Earth Badge before...
no subject
Seeing Mewtwo reaching out for the Pokedex Ash places the Pokedex into Mewtwo's hand before he responds to Mewtwo's next question.
"Yeah, I have! I've gotten all eight badges that I need to enter the league from all the regions I've gone to so far." As well as the Orange Islands but... those aren't as important.
no subject
Some of these Pokemon I have never seen before, he comments, tilting his head curiously as pictures and stats flash by. Dark eyes glance up at Ash briefly. And if you have all of each region's badges, then you have become very strong...
He looks back down at the Pokedex, pausing towards the end. The reaction he's having to hearing of Ash's accomplishments is...unexpected. It's not quite the same as the feeling of being impressed, yet...
He shifts on his feet slightly, feeling awkward. But he wants his friend to be happy again. Maybe this would help.
I...am....proud, of you.
(Please feel happy, Ash, he is embarrassing himself for you and everything.)
no subject
He then gives a small nod as he looks over at his sleeping partner. "Yeah. I think I've gotten at least a little bit stronger since my journey in Unova. But I wouldn't have been able to get strong at all without th' help of Pikachu and my other friends."
A smile, a bit bigger than his prior ones, spread across his face as he hears Mewtwo's compliment.
"Thanks, Mewtwo. No matter what I'll keep makin' my way to become a Pokemon Master."
no subject
Also, his compliment seems to have had the intended effect. He feels a bit pleased with himself, even if he still feels embarrassed. Look at you, Mewtwo, being a good friend and everything! That wasn't so hard.
I'll keep makin' my way sounds very Ash-like, as well. He cannot blame the boy for being shaken by the draft - he could not blame him for being changed forever by it, either, honestly - but perhaps he would be alright.
The Pokemon offers Ash his Pokedex back, belatedly following his glance over to Pikachu. In Johto he had noticed that Ash's team had changed, but Pikachu had remained, and it seems like that's stayed true through all the other regions as well. Pikachu was as unique a being as his trainer.
You and Pikachu have traveled far together, battled many gym leaders... He looks down at his friend curiously, tail waving lazily behind him. Does he not wish to evolve?
no subject
"Yeah. I wouldn't have gotten anywhere if it weren't for Pikachu by my side, 'cause no matter what I know I can always count on him more than anyone." he then shakes his head to begin addressing the question that Mewtwo asked.
"Pikachu doesn't wanna evolve. I've offered the chance in the past but he never took it. But that's okay, Pikachu is great just th' way he is. He doesn't havta evolve he is doesn't wanna. Same goes with any of my other Pokemon."
no subject
Mewtwo what do you even know, you're so racist against trainers god, and certainly few gave their partners a choice in evolvingagain Mewtwo you are being very racist, stop it.He leans against the wall carefully, feeling unusually relaxed, giving Ash as gentle look. You are a very kind Trainer. A small headtilt. Perhaps that is why you are both so strong.
no subject
And, of course, just because a Pokemon is evolved doesn't mean it's stronger.
Ash gives a the back of his head a small rub, clearly feeling a little embarrassed by Mewtwo's words. "Well, Pikachu is more than just my Pokemon he's my best friend. And my other Pokemon are all my friends too. I wouldn't want it any other way."
no subject
If the conversation needs a new subject, then Mewtwo's thought up one. In the back of his mind he thinks that maybe he's getting better at idle chit-chat.
I have not been to Unova before. What is it like?
no subject
While the conversation shifts the small smile that Ash has doesn't leave.
"It's great! There's a whole part o' the region where there isn't any Pokemon from any other regions in the wild. I've been able to meet a lotta new Pokemon and new friends there too. At first I went there on a vacation with my Mom, but I ended up travelin' and participatin' in the Unova League there."
no subject
Of course Ash ended up participating in the League. He can't imagine Ash not joining something Pokemon-related. Perhaps I should visit there one day.
But there's something else that Ash mentioned that suddenly interests him. It's just occurred to him that he doesn't know much about the boy's family.
(It does not occur to him, not consciously at least, that he doesn't know much about families, or moms, at all.)
What is your mother like?
no subject
"You should! There are a lotta things to see in Unova. And if ya get the chance visit the other region ya haven't seen too."
When Mewtwo changes the topic and asks the question about his Mom Ash looks a little surprised for a moment before expressing a soft smile.
"She's really nice and takes very good care of me and everyone else she knows. When I'm traveling I miss her very much but she's always there for me when I come home between journeys. She's the best."
no subject
Mewtwo smiles just a little. He's been in Luceti for several months now, long enough to almost forget about it, but back home he does have the opportunity to travel freely now. It's a strange mixture of liberation and loneliness - he no longer has the responsibility to keep his clones hidden, but he also no longer has them as company, either - but he thinks that he's looking forward to getting back to it.
I was traveling towards Hoenn before this. I have heard it has many wonderful beaches. (He likes the ocean, ok.)
He tilts his head in curiosity, feeling almost a little hesitant about the topic of Ash's family. It just seems like something a friend is supposed to know about already. Also, he doesn't actually know how a parent acts or feels, but...She must miss you as well. But she must also be proud of you.
(...Awkward pause. Ok next question.) Do you have any siblings?
no subject
He gives Mewtwo and soft smile, "Yeah. I gonna continue to do my best so she has something to be proud of." Though, he's aware that no matter what she's going to be proud of him. She's just that kind of mother.
Ash then shakes his head at the next question. "No. It was always just me and my Mom. Oh, and Mr. Mime too help Mom around the house and all."
