Summary: It's the first week of class for all you wonderful students, both new and old! Enjoy catching up with friends, trying to find your classes, engaging in all aspects of college life, and... let's not forget about the upcoming game.
Rating: PG-13 at best, guys. I know this is supposed to be college but if you're going to engage in the more... racy aspects of college life, take it off-comm!

[Jade's never been particularly fond of teaching. But he's had his reasons for being one long enough to earn tenure, and he's not talking. Jade is known for being very strict and militant around the Chemistry classroom. He gives a lesson on the first day, always assigns homework and-]

Do remember that we still will be meeting on the day of the Feather Bowl. And if you'll check your syllabus, you'll find that we'll be having the test on chapter 1 on that very day. Why don't we put some of that school spirit into studying?

[There can also be a lab session with some lovely mixing of chemicals. He'll be keen to make sure there are no explosive developments.

Yet, he can often be casual with students outside of class. He often eats at the dining hall and doesn't mind any students joining him for a chat. He actually doesn't eat the school food, but rather a plate of curry he brings with him. It's uncertain if he made it at home or has it shipped in somehow from off-campus. And at nights, he spends some time sitting along the counter at Good Spirits or whatever it's called now and having a few casual drinks. Once more, students or fellow faculty are open to join him.

He can also be found at the library, where he reads up on a very diverse number of topics that are often outside of his field. Books on military history and strategies seem to be the most common, however.

And don't forget that he keeps office hours. If you walk in at the right time, you can discover his deepest secret: Jade is making replicas. ....Model replicas! He's slowly putting together ones of campus, and he may be tinkering with one of the ships-in-bottles he has throughout his office.]

[One day, Grune had dropped by to visit during office hours and had discovered Jade's dark secret. Now she makes sure to visit at least once a week to see what wonderful thing he's making now.

[He doesn't mind the companionship. Grune may seem oddly naive at times, bu that's also charming in its own way. At this time, Jade is fairly open to social interactions. He calls out slightly as he hears her knock and her voice.]

Come on in. The door should be opened.

[And when it's open, Jade is sitting at his desk, tinkering with a ship in a bottle. The S. S. TARTARUS. He'll smile lightly as she enters.]

Good afternoon, Grune. Is this a social visit? Or have I driven any students off the deep end already?

[With complete earnestness:] Oh, no. I just wanted to come and say hello.

[She looks for a place to sit down.] Have you had some nice classes this week?

[Jade sets down the tool he was using for the ship for the moment and he motions to an empty swivel chair near his desk.]

I suppose they're as nice as first classes tend to go. Getting to pick apart a whole class of children, endure their agitation at my relentless attempts to educate them... Yes, it's more or less business as usual.

[As she goes to sit:] Oh, that's nice. I hope you all become very close.

[Jade is one of those few, hard to read people that Raine hasn't determined whether or not he is putting on a good act for the sake of fitting in with the experiment... or if he is fully affected like the rest.

Spotting him on his way to the dining hall sometime after the second day's classes, Raine decides that approaching him then seems more reasonable than approaching him in the classroom, after she takes a moment to figure out the best neutral topic to start with.]

You seem excited for the start of the year, Professor.

[Jade has his hands in his pockets as he strolls towards the dining hall. There's no military uniform here, but he is wearing blue garb that looks as similar as a schoolteacher's garments can.]

My, of course. [He flashes a light smirk. At least the light-hearted tones he assumes are still almost the same.] Nothing excites me more than putting down a class full of unprepared students. [His glasses gleam.]

I always find the start of term exciting, myself.

[She chooses her words carefully. If his was an act, it was a fairly good one.] After all, it provides more opportunities to learn. Though I'm sure not many of the other tend to view it as that.

Unfortunately, most tend to view the start as optional and as an extra week of vacation. Of course, I don't intend to go easy on those who make such assumptions. [He smirks and casually shakes his head.]

Most of the student body could benefit from your attitude.

Honestly, they're the ones investing into their futures by being here. If they don't come in with the intent to learn, it's a waste of everyone's time. Hopefully your directness on the matter will be able to reach them.
