Iiiiit's Monday, and that means it's time for class!

What: IT'S TIME FOR COLLEGE, YO.
When: September 8 - 12th.
Where: All over "campus".
Summary: It's the first week of class for all you wonderful students, both new and old! Enjoy catching up with friends, trying to find your classes, engaging in all aspects of college life, and... let's not forget about the upcoming game.
Rating: PG-13 at best, guys. I know this is supposed to be college but if you're going to engage in the more... racy aspects of college life, take it off-comm!

[He steps in, very comfortable in these surroundings by now, and slips off his shoes]

I'm good, Rei-neechan. We were learning about birds in school today!

Birds?

[She meanders over to the couch and sits down.]

What kind of birds? Lorikeets?

Lorikeets and other kinds of parrots! Did you know there's over three hundred kinds?

[You know now]

Really? I didn't know that at all. What other kinds are there? What's your favorite?

There's budgies, they're related to lorikeets! And cockatoos and cockatiels, they're not the same thing at all. I think macaws are my favourite though, they're all big and colourful!

Mmmmm. And what's different between a Cockatoo and a Cockatiel?

[She's doing that adult-ish thing of half listening while preparing things. You know, like a big sis might, so she can immediately feed him.]

[He's just happy to have someone listening at all]

Cockatiels are the really little ones. Cockatoos need a whole lot more space.

And how big do they get?

[Plates and cups down...fridge opening]

Cockatiels get to be about a foot long and they're kinda skinny. But cockatoos can be twice as big.

That's...a pretty big bird. What's the biggest, though?

[And over to the stove to start cooking that pasta...]

The biggest parrots are some of the macaws that can be three feet high. But the biggest bird is ostriches, even if they can't fly.

Really? I thought it was emus?

They're the second biggest. Ostriches can get to nine feet tall!

Really? And what's the smallest bird, huh?

It's a kinda hummingbird. It's only as big as a bee!

Really? I didn't know that. But I knew hummingbirds were very, very small.

[Pasta on!]

Okay, so smart guy. Tell me what kind of bird can turn their head all the way around.

[He considers that for a moment]

That's owls, isn't it?

It is! Exactly right, Hajime-kun.

[A pause while she puts on sauce...]

And what is the smartest bird?

[Okay, now he's stumped]

I don't think we learned that one...

It's a crow.

Neat! Why are they so smart? How do you even find out how smart a bird is?

Honestly? I'm not sure why. But I know there were studies and tests that show crows adapt better and even use tools. And they remember faces.

That is pretty smart for an animal... figuring out if they can do that would be a neat job, too!

Oh, definitely. I imagine it would be fascinating.

Do you think you want to be one when you grow up?

You know... I think I would!

[He's wanted to be a lot of things when he grows up. But right now he's going with that one.
