Caesar stopped mid-step, his entire body freezing as he heard Albert's voice. Or rather, something that sounded like his voice; raspy and paper-thin and none of the commanding, imperious tone he'd grown so used to hearing.

And suddenly, he was in action once again as he zeroed in on where the voice had come from. Perhaps sixty feet from where he'd been standing, hidden by a thick clump of bushes, he found the man he'd been seeking.

"Hey," he panted finally, still struggling to get air into his abused lungs as he knelt at Albert's side. There was something strange and terrible about the half-vacant look in his brother's eyes, the same look he'd seen in the eyes of countless Grasslanders during the most tragic stages of the war. He'd been moved then, but was still able to keep some sort of wall between their suffering and his position. Now, however ...

The eyes of a victim didn't suit Albert at all.

Quickly, he pushed those thoughts away. "Hey, you lazy bastard," he said gently, "are you gonna sleep here all day?"
