The soldier (who happens to have, of all things, a warhammer, brings down the hammer in a wide arch. Masoami is still air-borne (technically) and thus cannot move in mid-air. He tries to scramble in the instant the recognizes what's coming, but...
Well, he manages to pull his leg out of the way. But it's not a fast enough reaction. The hammer slams down on his foot. Or well, more accurately, his ankle and his foot, and smashes both in mid-air. Fortunately, he completes his pull back before the arc completes and both are sent smashing into the ground, but Masaomi's eyes both go wide and there was a rather large cracking sound from that.
Only made worse when as she scrambles for a landing following that blow, the now healed up (but still aching) wound on his side spikes a bit of pain, distracting him... and the already heavily injured foot is made worse in the form of his ankle twisting from a very bad landing. Or well, half-landing leading into him tripping. Suffice to say, what might have been him landing on his feet is in fact, making him land face-first into this big patch of mud.
