Summary: Come one, come all! It's time for this cycle's New Feather Party!
Rating: PG -- to be changed in case of drunken shenanigans! Which are encouraged but it's a BYOB kinda deal. XD

[ooc: Alright everybody, here's how it works! Comment spam is the name of the game here and yes, my inbox can handle it! First comment is for anyone who's volunteered to help out and there's a lots of people so Selphie has already split everybody up into groups. aka: feel free to make your own groups. After that, there's just going to be general partyness going on! Threadjacking is more than encounraged (hell, it's expected and demanded) and there you have it! The grumps can come btw, they just can't grump at the party! xD]

The party was all set up and ready to go. The food had been delivered, the rec centre was thoroughly decorated and cheerful with its spring colours and Selphie was just hanging around waiting for the guests to arrive. Her small army of helpers had been hard at work since the day before and it hardened the perky brunette's resolve to make this one of the best parties she's ever thrown. A small part of her wished that her other friends from home and those who had left this place could be here to enjoy the party with everyone here. Even then, a larger part of her knows that it's better that they're not here.

Regardless, Selphie goes about getting this latest New Feather party arranged with every ounce of cheer and assuring those new people that not every people associated with Luceti is crazy. Giving them a welcoming environment to get to know some of their fellow residents is better than wondering what's going to happen next. Besides, it could help those shy people make some friends or get over their anxieties about social gatherings. Overall, Selphie felt that these parties were worth the hard work and would do them as many times as necessary.

[Terra's nearby, doing her part to provide the party with its token wallflower. She glances around, but the crowd makes her a bit uneasy to just wade into it. So instead, she stays on the fringes.]

[Well, Mulder is just a 'fringe' kind of guy, anyway. Plus, how else is he going to properly get a feel for things if he doesn't explore everywhere? So eventually he heads over and sees Terra. Recognizing her from before, he heads in her direction.]

Not much of a party animal?

[Terra perks up and glances over. She shakes her head, somewhat sheepish.]

No, not really. I'm...not very good with crowds.

But you must have something you like about being here, or else you wouldn't have come, right?

...the food?

[Terra smiles a little, then shrugs.]

I was curious to see what other New Feathers I missed. I thought...maybe that I would see familiar faces returned.

Returned? There were more people here from your world here before?

[As much as it's tough not having anyone, Mulder can imagine it's all that much worse to have people and then lose them.]

[Terra nods, her voice quiet.]

Most of them are gone now, but there's still a few. I'm...not sure if they're any safer at home, to be honest.

I'm sorry to hear that... Are you from a very dangerous world?

Well...a psychotic and power-hungry man absorbed the power of three goddesses of magic and destroyed much of the world just before I arrived here.

[So...yes.]

[...Ah. Well, that was something he probably should have been prepared to hear.]

...I hope it didn't kill the party mood, that I asked. But I hope for your world's sake that someone is able to take down that madman.

[Terra shakes her head at mention of killing the mood; that wasn't her intention. She's just extremely honest.]

Well, my friends will...eventually. That's what I've been told, but I haven't seen it for myself yet. The time differences here can make things weird.

At least you know things work out for the best? But that must be a pretty weird experience altogether, having someone here from the future.

It is...but you get used to things like that once you've been here for a while. You might experience it, too.

It wouldn't be the first time I've run across someone time traveling in from the future... though it'd be a first for being someone I know.

[That gives her pause and she regards him curiously.]

...it isn't? That really happened to you before?

[He is a magnet for WEIRD THINGS after all.]

Yeah, I met someone who'd perfected a technique that allowed people to go back in time... except he'd come back to our time to kill off his past self in an effort to prevent himself from discovering time travel in the first place.

Well, technically, yes, since we were unable to prevent him from killing his younger self, and murdering others involved in the project. He put an end to time travel in my world, at least using their methods.

I can understand not wanting something that powerful to be abused, but...those poor people. Couldn't there have been any other way?

...if he killed himself, then what happened to his older self? Did he just...vanish?

Yeah. If only there had been some other way... I end up thinking that about a lot of cases I've worked on.

They both went up in flames, but actually... they never did find the old man. By killing his young self, his older self never existed... which is a complete paradox, but that's time travel for you.

[Terra shakes her head, not knowing what to make of any of that.]

That's so....

Well. I'm just glad that time travel isn't really an issue where I'm from. Life is chaotic enough without it.

That's the only time I've come across it, so far, but I'm sure you're right. As fascinating as it would be to go back to different eras and witness history unfolding, there's always the danger of messing up the timeline entirely...

...But I think this place doesn't count, we seem to be in some kind of bubble where paradoxes wouldn't affect the worlds we're from. Theoretically, at least.

[He's still learning the ropes in some ways, but overall he has his ideas already forming.]

That's what it seems like, from what people have said, but...it doesn't make much sense to me. How can what happens here not affect us at all if we get sent back home?

That's something I'd like to know, myself. These experiences can't just disappear... and even if they're forgotten somehow, there are techniques that can be used to recall them.

[Terra perks up, curious. The only thing that helped her amnesia was reuniting with her father's magicite, and that was hardly a cure-all.]
