Summary: Come one, come all! It's time for this cycle's New Feather Party!
Rating: PG -- to be changed in case of drunken shenanigans! Which are encouraged but it's a BYOB kinda deal. XD


[ooc: Alright everybody, here's how it works! Comment spam is the name of the game here and yes, my inbox can handle it! First comment is for anyone who's volunteered to help out and there's a lots of people so Selphie has already split everybody up into groups. aka: feel free to make your own groups. After that, there's just going to be general partyness going on! Threadjacking is more than encounraged (hell, it's expected and demanded) and there you have it! The grumps can come btw, they just can't grump at the party! xD]

The party was all set up and ready to go. The food had been delivered, the rec centre was thoroughly decorated and cheerful with its spring colours and Selphie was just hanging around waiting for the guests to arrive. Her small army of helpers had been hard at work since the day before and it hardened the perky brunette's resolve to make this one of the best parties she's ever thrown. A small part of her wished that her other friends from home and those who had left this place could be here to enjoy the party with everyone here. Even then, a larger part of her knows that it's better that they're not here.

Regardless, Selphie goes about getting this latest New Feather party arranged with every ounce of cheer and assuring those new people that not every people associated with Luceti is crazy. Giving them a welcoming environment to get to know some of their fellow residents is better than wondering what's going to happen next. Besides, it could help those shy people make some friends or get over their anxieties about social gatherings. Overall, Selphie felt that these parties were worth the hard work and would do them as many times as necessary.

You're only including the humans in your assessment, yes? [Because Rachel, Spike, Remilia, and probably more than a few besides have at least a century on Giles, and he's sticking by that.]

I haven't. [Most of Giles' friends tend towards human, however much magical ability they might possess.] Just vampires, really.

Well, whatever. Vampires are a little different because they're originally human, usually, so they get two lifetimes. But yeah, there's probably a few other things like elves or whatnot older than you by a few centuries but I dare you to find people who are a few years or even a few decades older.

I'm not trying to say you're an old fart though, really.

I...appreciate the clarification. [And it's probably clear by the tone of his voice that Giles doesn't know whether he's insulted or not. Or, really, what to make of Haruhi in general. So he's feeling a little awkward in his turn.]

I know a couple in the village personally, yes.

And they're unfortunately prevalent back home.

[He sounds exasperated right back. Because he still doesn't like people being exasperated at Buffy, even if he's made a lifestyle of getting exasperated at her for the better part of a decade.

And the requote is without a trace of irony. Because that's how it seemed to work here. And, well, what the hell. Everyone knew Buffy. ]

[One of Buffy's and she was enjoying the conversation until then, sort of! The horror. Sigh. Maybe a slight pursing of her lips which, coupled with pouting, makes her look a litlte like a duck]

How exactly does it "figure", then? I know ours' isn't the only world with vampires.

Because yours is the one where everything goes wrong and then it goes more wrong and you can't even keep up one civil conversation without dipping into the macabre. And when asked what's good about it, you just ramble off some stupid story where the climax is a couple of innocents dying an the finale is you killing something.

[SIGH. And shaking her head. Maybe she's just channeling her intense dislike of Buffy now]

I'm probably a bit worse than Buffy, to be honest, since I'm ahead of her in our respective timeline.

[Someone who lived and, oh yeah, died because his world turned out to be more or less like Haruhi described - a place where you honestly couldn't be happy without something horrible happening to undo it all.]

I thought it was fair warning, really, since we're on to this topic of conversation and don't seem about to leave it.

Of course he doesn't. She gets all defensive and then expects you to empathize with her world and experiences.

Do what? Admit that their world is an unfortunate place to live? [Maybe it's because he knows he won't be going back.]

Even the ones who don't spend their lives fighting vampires can get killed by one. Or a careless troll on a rampage. Or any number of supernatural as well as mundane things.

I suppose she must be more optimistic than I gave her credit for.

You're missing the point. Fine, your world sucks and you've hammered the point in forever. But how are the rest of us, from a different - from some stupid, mundane, boring world supposed to relate to that?! How do you expect us to react?! [And now she's raising her voice... getting a little defensive herself]

What I am supposed to say to some woman who's just mouthed off about some demonic massacre when we were talking about relationships? How am I supposed to feel when I'm held to some stupid standard that is utterly impossible to meet because I don't know it?!

[Okay. So. He's old. And it's been forever since she saw an old guy, so now she's making a scene about things that upset her. It happens]

Mostly? I expect them to raise their eyebrows and look startled for a minute. That's how most everyone reacts here. Even the ones who never believed in vampires before they arrived here.

You may come from a mundane, boring world, but this is far from a mundane, boring place. And for those of us who have had to keep quiet about this sort of thing for most of our lives, the chance to talk about it with anyone is hard to pass up.

And if Buffy and I are anything alike, once we stop pretending it's hard to start up again. Once we can actually connect with people because of how utterly insane our world is, instead of being locked up in some godforsaken asylum, it's something we want to keep doing. [And he has connected with people - Helios, Frederic, Robert, Raine. That's important to Giles.]

We may be utterly ruined for certain aspects of polite conversation, but we are the normal ones here.
