It's been a while.

Nearly fifteen minutes now. I just wanted to make sure you were all right.

Oh. I hadn't even noticed... [How long had he been drifting off for?] I should be getting out soon, before I really fall asleep in here.

There is a change of clothes for you outside this door.

[and she will go wait somewhere else now for him to get ready]

[Ion waits a bit until he's sure she's not by the door anymore before lifting himself out of the tub and drying off. None of his cuts looked too serious, so he just goes ahead and grabs his clothes to get dressed.]

[His head still aches, but now it's more of a dull ache than a stabbing one. He's still moving a little uneasy as he comes down the hall, keeping on hand trailing against the wall just in case.]

[She'll get him about halfway down the hall, taking his free arm so he has something better to lean on the rest of the way to his bed.

Really, she ends up having to put him to bed far too often. It continues to surprise her that he's so fragile.]

You don't have to tell me anything, Ion. Especially now. You should sleep.

[He sighs softly once he's sitting on his bed. Now that he no longer smelled the dirt and blood that had dirtied his hair and clothes upon arriving, he felt... calmer.]

No, I'll be all right for a little longer. But there is something I need to tell you. Something that happened during the draft.

All right.

[she sits on his bed, too, facing him]

What is it?

...there were a lot of traps set up in the forest. When you walked into one of them, a vine would wrap around your ankle and drag you into a tall tree.

[He's going to leave out that he walked into about 12 of these because that's just sad.]

The second day we were there, I fell into one and... then fell from it. I hit my head pretty hard and don't remember much about what happened in the hours afterward. Jade said I probably gave myself a concussion.

[There is a look of absolute horror on her face]

You're lucky if that's all you did. I hope a doctor looked at you.

Of course. There was a makeshift clinic set up at the main camp. I would have known by know if it were something more serious.

[Not that a concussion isn't still serious. Nor did he want to go into what other "serious" outcomes could have occurred.]

...but I was told some of the symptoms might take awhile to go away. I wanted to make sure you knew.

[He nods.] Although, I should probably still get a check-up from someone who knows about me...

[Of course, Ion is thinking about Dist in this case, seeing as Jade is partially to blame for his injury. But he'll never tell Nephry that.]

Jade wasn't there?

[She suspects his involvement in this.]

He was, but... there wasn't really time for anything too thorough...

[Ion she asked you to tell the truth.]

Is that really all?

[As much as Ion hates keeping things from Nephry, telling her would also be admitting to himself that he doesn't trust Jade with his health right now. He doesn't want to think that's the case, but...]

What else would it be?

It seems like there might be more to it than that.

We were on a battlefield, Nephry. Jade had enough to worry about, helping to protect everyone. Including myself.

[...his way of doing it was just messed up.]

Then I will talk to him in the morning about coming here.

Until then, you should rest.

But Jade needs his rest as well, doesn't he? [...Ion may have said that just a little too quickly.]

Wouldn't... it be better to ask Dist? He's the one who's been looking after my health all this time, after all...

I don't see a reason to agitate Saphir. Especially if Jade has already seen to you, at least somewhat.

[Now this is legitimate. You know how Dist gets when people bother him with things and also hurt the people he pretends not to care about as much as he does.]

I'm sure he wouldn't mind if he knew I was injured...

[Yeah, Ion knows he's fighting a losing battle, here.]

[For a silent moment Nephry just looks at him.

He is injured and though she knows he's not telling her the whole story, she has no business keeping him up and interrogating and worrying him like this.

Nephry closes her eyes and takes a long breath.]

Just sleep, Ion. I'll try to talk to Saphir in the morning.
