That's not... you wouldn't be rushing. I mean, unless that's how you feel--why don't I check on the eggs.

[No question mark. This is not a question. She's just going to turn back to the stove now and... oh they're pretty close to done. Why couldn't they take longer?]

[She scoops out the eggs, then looks over her shoulder at him when she feels less tongue-tied.]

Right, I didn't. But it's still kind of a strange thing to say, I guess? ...Not like we've been doing anything the normal way. [She laughs a little, soft, at that--they definitely haven't, considering they've been living together this whole time--and directs the eggs into a plate.]

I think we've done pretty good anyway, all things considered.

[It's not exactly what anyone could call a bad breakup. Though Aerith asking about his dating life sort of brings a taste of finality to it that he hadn't felt before.]

[They could write a book together! "How to be friends after breaking up. Part 1: Have the break-up be one where no one is at fault but the so-hilariously-long-it-just-turns-pathetic-and-sad string of bad luck."

Aerith is not thinking of how to turn their relationship into a best-seller, though. She's looking up at Zack curiously with the plate offered out.]

Happy? What, living here with you guys? [He takes the plate gratefully, fetching a fork. Orange juice to follow.] Of course I am! What's there to be unhappy about?

[Hell, even the experiments can't really drag him down, at least not so far. And the drafts are only a hassle when other people are getting sent out instead of him. He's not really keen to admit it to anyone, but it was kind of a relief to get out there and fight. A simple daily life is not how a SOLDIER is supposed to live.]

[The enthusiastic response gets a broad smile from her as she pretends to ponder the answer to that question, shifting back and forth on her feet.

Really, she's just happy he's happy.] I dunno. I'm sure some people could kick up a fuss, but how whiny! [With that she moves to get her own breakfast--a smaller portion of eggs for herself and a bagel.

Yeah, maybe. Not me, though- it's a nice house, good neighbourhood, great company. Who could ask for more?
