Mission # 1 - Third Party Observation

Who: Luke Skywalker, Mizuno Ami, Sheena, Gambit, Chien, and Leonardo
What: MISSION # 1 - Third Party Observation
When: February 5th - 10th
Where: The Jungle [Cultist Village]
Summary: A six man team has been formed by the Malnosso to monitor a cultist village to determine their strategies, plans, and any potential weaknesses.

Six Luceti volunteers arrive in the jungle at approximately nine in the morning, surrounded by the various equipment they would need for the coming mission. Although warped directly into the heart of the forest, it would be several miles until they entered cultist territory and further still until they reached the edge of the cultist village. The trip would be arduous, as there was no clear path to reach there, due largely to the fact the cultists could fly and made no trails of their own. Fortunately a crude map and compass had been provided to the field leader to guide them. For now, their primary dangers would be the animals native to the forest. And perhaps a lone Shift Hunter here and there.

The cultist village is located around a massive tree that towers like a skyscraper over the rest. Thick with vines and other plantlife, the branches of the tree is also where the cultists have built their homes. Although some of the crude dwellings are located on the smaller trees in the area, most of them are hidden in the branches high above the canopy of the forest. Flying from branch to branch are the cultists, many frequently patrolling the area. They are thorough and tireless in their efforts to guard the area. Shifters are often among them, projecting a power canceling field around them. For as exposed as the area seems, the security is tight and dangerous.

The volunteers have been given surveillance and recording equipment that they can either carry on their person or attempt to plant. If their equipment is discovered, the security will only get tighter and they may end up hunted. Their goal is to record any conversations between cultists and photograph any documents or other writings they can come across. They are not to interrogate or engage any of the cultists. Additional supplies for food, shelter, and medicine has also been provided. In five days, they are to return to where they started. If they should be discovered, they can return to that location early and be returned home.

((ooc: Okay, so thread among yourself. You can assume as much as you like, so pick any scenario that you want to tag. You don't have to be in six-way threads, so break off into groups of two or three or whatever. Feel free to use the mod post to ask questions.))

"That's agreed, then." Mercury glances at Chien. "How much do you recall about the specific traps? We can try to locate some so that avoiding the others will become easier as we get used to the signs to look for." No trap is perfect.

Luke listens, and nods in agreement.

"Then lets get a move on. Watch where you go, and if you find a trap, mark the area around it so that people following behind know what to look for. Maybe take a few sticks and set them in an 'X' shape. Shouldn't draw Third Party attention if you do that."

Luke rummages around in one of the packs and tosses Leo and Sheena a pair of walkie talkies.

"And take these. Keep in contact while you search."

Fantastic question, blue girl, he'll be happy to supply his knowledge as everything's settled around.

"There were two kinds, one designed to kill animals," and him, "and one just to capture them. There are plenty of simple kind of traps on the ground, like spikes in holes covered by leaves, but if they're in the trees there's probably branches that swing down or something too. Most of the traps probably have wires that trip them though, so it'd be good to take a stick or something and keep swinging it back and forth on the ground in front of us."

He motions with his hands as he speaks, thinking. "If they're not aiming to kill us, it'll be something that alerts them, like a big bang with powder. There could even be things to slow us down in them, like glass. Or those spikes in the ground."

Those walkie talkies catch is eye, and he pauses to study them from afar for a moment. "Anyway, it's mostly just common sense stuff. Don't touch anything you shouldn't, stay off of beaten paths, and keep close to the ground in case there's anything above us. ...Marking them sounds like a good idea too."

"Yes, I was glad I asked him about his experience." Leo catches the walkie-talkie from Luke and nods to him. "Make sure to keep the volume low too. We don't need these possibly giving us away either."

He'll adjust it on his and make sure it's on the right channel, before he tucks it on his belt. He listens to what the watch out for and nods in understanding. Right, watch what they're doing, be aware of their surroundings at all times, and cover their tracks. Nothing new, though the surroundings are different.

"Yes, let's go. We have a ways to go." He says.

"Wait," Mercury interjects quietly. "Leaving behind marks of our own is leaving evidence for our presence to be noticed. Should we really take that risk? And even if it isn't noticed until after we've left, is that alright, too?"

"It should be fine, Mercury. We can remove the marks on our way out after we're done, and the intelligence we've received indicates that the target doesn't patrol outside a certain perimeter, which we aren't inside yet."
