MISSION #5 - Cargo Run

Who: Trafalgar Law (2nd Officer), Sanji (Cook), Azusa Miura (Cook's Mate), Adele Blanc (Doctor), The Hulk, Daisy, Anakin Skywalker, Asbel Lhant, Buffy Summers (Marines), Arsene Lupin III, Selphie Tilmitt, James Norrington, Mikage Celestine, Rogue, Nami, and Kurt Wagner (Sailors)
What: MISSION # 5 - Cargo Run
When: April 17th to April 21st
Where: Open Seas
Summary: A group of Luceti volunteers join a crew upon a massive ship headed out to sea, into cultist-infested waters.

It may have been nine in the morning when the group of Luceti volunteers were transported out through the tunnels, but at the shipyards the time difference meant that it was nearly midday already. A meek member of the Malnosso lower management led them along the docks, avoiding and scolding people as they got in his way, as he tried to go over the same details already present in the mission description. He was a rather pathetic looking little purple man with drooping ears, a hairless head, and webbed fingers. He apologized for his slipping over words. He explained it was difficult thinking straight in sunlight. Whenever he would stop to try and think, he'd look up to see The Hulk, shrink away a bit, and then hobble on quicker to the ship.

He was visibly relieved when he found Specialist Davis didn't look too busy, allowing him to pass off the Luceti volunteers and allowing him to get on his way. He's a new face to this particular group, but not to Luceti in general, having worked with them previously on the incident with the third floor. This odd looking group doesn't seem to have him looking too impressed. Especially when he looks at the ones who don't even seem to be fighters. But he directs his attention to Trafalgar with a few short words: "You. We'll talk once we're on board. You get your people settled for now."

With that, he and a group of other MSF Soldiers went to board the ship. The Tyr's Revenge was far larger than the ship than the one on the draft over half a year ago. It was a sailing ship, but despite its antiquated look, there was a central cooling tower in the center of the ship, which it derived its steam power. Where it used this thrust was not immediately obvious without a look at the back of the ship. (They would find out later that it was enough to propel the boat in a calm and was simple enough to avoid being blocked by Shifting, but was not as effective as a good strong wind.) Despite being crewed at around five hundred men and women, it was at least spacious enough for the crew to put in pairs. As a second officer, Trafalgar was afforded his own cabin, but the rest were sorted away into small rooms with two sets of hammocks on each side. The Luceti volunteers were kept together and it gave them some privacy, though each were pre-assigned rooms and the Malnosso didn't seem too picky about who ended up with who.

They had about an hour to get comfortable. In an hour, they'd be casting off.

----

Okay, time for your notes. First off, you will be able to interact with Specialist Davis for the mission. He won't be very talkative (unless you're his second officer), but he might answer some basic questions. He'll be around during the fighting too. Although he prefers to use firearms (think something like a P90), he'll demonstrate super strength and advanced reflexes (think Spider-Man) in battle. Some of the other MSF Soldiers will display some slight superhuman ability like him, but the vast majority of them are normally powered highly trained soldiers. For the most part, they won't talk to people from the enclosures much and prefer to keep to themselves. In general their only duty is security, so they won't be doing much in running the ship unless absolutely necessary. There will be about one hundred and fifty men and women. Most will be human, but there may be a few deviations among them (like odd skin colors, weird hair colors, eye pigmentations, pointy ears, and so on). Although a good number of them will use guns, some out of them will be using melee weapons like swords and spears. All of them will have some secondary weapon in case of a Shift that jams their guns.

The people from Luceti, along with the volunteers, will be doing the day to day work of the ship. The volunteers will be as they are described in the Nitpicker's Guide. For the most part, they're not nearly as skilled at fighting as the people from Luceti or the Security Forces, so when attacks come, they'll defend themselves but not be very good at it. Most of them will be human, with a few variations. Very, very few of them will exhibit any special abilities. In general they'll be friendly enough, though some from different enclosures may be more jaded and bitter. There will definitely be talks of escape and mutiny among some of them, whereas others will be more cooperative or too fearful of attempting a mutiny.

You can use the volunteers and security as NPCs for whatever purpose you like! That means you can give them names and maybe a bit of a personality (that's consistent with the above) and let them get killed or need help or what have you during battles with cultists. There are also droids to be found in parts of the ship below decks. They will more or less remain stationary, but they will intervene if people poke their noses in the wrong place. Or try to mutiny.

The captain of the ship won't be seen much, but she's an older lady (late fifties) that is relatively plain and unassuming in appearance. She won't talk to the volunteers and will relay any orders through Specialist Davis, but the people from Luceti may see her about the ship to see how things are going. Most of the time she will be in the captain's quarters doing paperwork. She'll look seasick for the entire voyage. Her name is Mrs. Eugenia Fruthers, Manager 2nd Class.

Note: The volunteers are sorted randomly, so it's up to you players to figure out how you want to work that out! The Malnosso aren't too picky if a man and woman end up sharing the same quarters. (How shameless!)

Here's a run down for events on the ship over the voyage

17th - Cast off, strong wind, heading east. A fair weather day perfect for sailing.
18th - Open seas with a fair wind and cloudy skies. A land mass can be briefly seen to the north. An island of some sort.
19th - Open seas with a fair wind, darker skies. The cultists make their first attack run. About mid day, four flying ships. The Malnosso use no cannons, but prefer to immediately fly en masse once in range. However, it is necessary to bring these ships down, as the cultists are fond of going kamikaze with them. Each of the four ships carries about one hundred cultists each.
20th - Open seas with powerful wind and stormy weather. Another raid will occur early in the morning, while most of the crew is still asleep. Three more cultist ships will attack and some of the cultists will make it below decks. Mid way through the battle, the ruckus will attract a monstrous kraken from the depths. The crew will be forced to fight off the remaining cultists while a great tentacled hell beast attempts to drag the Tyr's Revenge to the depths.
21st - The last day of the voyage will see the ship needing repairs after the attacks. About half of the crew will have been lost thanks to the cultists and the kraken and they will finally make port (in the same place as the ocean draft.) In the evening, the volunteers will be returned to their respective enclosures.

Buffy was one of those who didn't...look like a fighter. Though she certainly seemed unintimidated by this mission. For the first day she found her assigned quarters and got the lay of the land and wondered what she'd tell her sailor-extraordinaire honey when she got home.

But on the 18th, she noticed Specialist Davis in the little hole-in-the-wall set aside for enjoying Sanji's meals. Buffy skipped the queue and only grabbed a mug of coffee before sliding eagerly into the seat across from the MSF agent.

"Hi. Sorry. I just have to ask. You're a specialist in what, exactly?"

Davis had in his hand a cup of coffee and a meal consisting of some rolls and a protein bar. He preferred to sit alone and the intrusion of one of the volunteers did little to improve his mood. However, he barely reacted, just proceeded to take a bite from his extraordinarily plain protein bar, as if he hadn't noticed her. Only after the task of chewing did he answer.

"I specialize in killing Sparties."

GET ALL HANDS TO BATTLE STATIONS.

They've snuck up in the wee hours of the morning, during the storm. Some have even made it below decks. And in the chaos, from the depths, it rises.

The Kraken. Perhaps here to settle an old score from the Naval Draft.

And all of you tasty morsels will make a fine meal.]

17th; after everyone is settled. Where? Where the NPC Malnosso points Law to.

[personal profile] deathsdoctor 2012-04-17 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
[Law is approaching...

Slightly earlier in the day, several of the volunteer crew have startled; they hadn't heard him pass and suddenly, man! With a huge sword (and other weapons)! Suddenly there and asking calmly to one of the Malnosso Security Forces where he might find one Specialist Davis.

The woman with the purple eyes nods, and in a professional tone, informs him. Once Law is gone, she shares a faintly amused/exasperated look with her comrades. What jumpy volunteers. Here's hoping they don't get them all killed. At least the second officer was made of stronger steel.

The aha! moment comes quickly after directions are given. There he is.

The relaxed tones and posture are gone from Law; in their place is something crisper and more military. The Captain is out to play now.]

They're settled now. [Straight to the point but polite. The specialist seems like a straight to the point man.] You wished to talk?

[There's a thief on deck, looking strangely relaxed and at home as he examines the equipment and takes stock of the shreds of information he hears on deck. He hadn't expected to be accepted for it when he volunteered on a whim, especially in light of recent events, but he's not one to complain about something that promised to be interesting and fun.

Catch him anytime, anywhere. Do take note that he's not wearing his usual red jacket, but the green.

[Coming back from speaking with Specialist Davis, Law pauses. He's got to get himself familiar with the ship and crew too. But. He's just going to take in the air for a minute... the sheer rightness of feeling a wooden deck underneath his feet again and the roll of the ocean.

It's like a homecoming, even though he does have the Shinonome to sail in Luceti.

Nothing makes a ship quite like a crew.]

Oi. Mister Lupin. [Tis time to see where people stand on sailing experience (he knows many of Luceti's volunteers, thankfully enough) and from what he sees, he's pleased. There's a certain familiarity in the man's motions as he examines the equipment. Not quite completely inexperienced then.] I see you're getting to know our lady, here.

[Ships are always ladies. Always.]
redjacketthief: (is this what I think it is?)

[personal profile] redjacketthief 2012-04-18 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
[He hadn't actually exchanged words with Law since the New Year, when they shared a few drinks over discussion of philosophy and the stars. Lupin smiles at this--he was so nostalgic then, and more than a little bitter. His best friend dropped in a couple of weeks later, which made everything feel as right as it could with him in the situation.

Smiling, he politely snuffs out his cigarette and drops it overboard with the easy grace of a person in his element. It wasn't a perfect match, but he felt alive.]

Of course, Doctor. I'm familiar enough with ships, just not necessarily ones of this scale or level of tech. I think I got it though.

Tyr's Revenge. It's one hell of a name for her--I wonder if she'll get her revenge.

[Tyr. He's read about Tyr. Heard about him from Raine. Supposedly a hero type, but he spent his last years in Luceti fractured in mind. He ran the smithy. Murdered by John permanently using the same method the Third Party use to sacrifice their victims.

Someone important to the Malnosso. The mysterious Tyr.]

She completes her mission? I'd say she gets a measure of it. [He often wonders of the exact relationship between John and the Malnosso. They call him the Great One, Bil idolizes him... but there's something there. Underneath the underneath. John lives in isolation underneath people who have an uneasy relationship with him at best... There is something there.] Ever been out here before? I mean on a mission facing the Third Party.

[You had been new when we last spoke; do you know what you're about to face?]
redjacketthief: (too bad)

[personal profile] redjacketthief 2012-04-18 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
[Lupin himself was thinking about the classical Nordic God of War, the one who volunteered to stick his hand in the maw of the hell hound, Fenrir, to keep the beast tame as they bound it--and lost that same hand when the beast's jaws snapped closed. He's read things and heard things about the Malnosso, but isn't certain about what all is to be believed or not.

For himself? He trusts nothing that involves them. He does place enough trust in Law to not let his own paranoia override his thinking.]

A bit. I know enough to know that they're nasty pieces of work that I probably want to keep my distance from. At least there's ammo here, and some really nice looking rifles.

[His information on them isn't nearly as good as he would like, but he has a suspicion that he wouldn't be able to take one easily despite his experiences in what the combination of science and greed can turn men into.]

[personal profile] deathsdoctor 2012-04-18 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
Nastier. There's no reasoning with them. They're clever out here... more clever than the ones you face on land, and they simply won't stop until you kill them. Expect them to come at you with a berserker like rage... that throws a lot of people at first, that sheer hate. Be ready for it.

[A lot of the volunteer crew here simply aren't. He can already tell. There are going to be casualities... perhaps heavy ones. And that is worrisome. For many reasons.]

If I was you, I'd be grabbing a second weapon. Handgun. Knife. Keep it simple. They'll be Shifters among the lot that will be disabling special abilities and complicated tech. They like to force people into close quarters, so...

[Make sure you have something you can use in that situation if you lose the rifle.]

Why am I not surprised? [Perhaps he was getting used to the place. Perhaps it was his own instincts. He knows corruption, though, knows the sheer levels that a deranged man will reach in order to attain whatever his goal may be. One that is super strong, with super powers, is automatically more dangerous than the worst that he's faced.

Contemplatively, he pulls out his Walther from it's shoulder holster and automatically checks the clip. It was the five shots that was a remnant of his impulsivity back in November. The replacement cartridge with another eten was tucked away in his pocket.]

World War Two era decomissioned military sidearm, a semiautomatic that's always been faithful to me. It's a Walther P-38, and I always have it on me. [Even when it's been used as a means for betrayers to attempt to murder him, it's always found a way back to his hands.] It's an old friend. I also have a PPK, same manufacturer, eight shot, on me in case I need it.

[Sorry, Fujiko. He borrowed one of your guns without asking.]

[Okay, so. Rogue had time to prepare for this. She gritted her teeth and left the barrier and did her best to hold it all together until they were on the ship. But once that was done and her room assignment received, a gloved hand goes up to her hand and starts making her way towards that room ASAP.

She doesn't have her sea legs yet. And her head is starting to split down the middle.

So she's not doing this very well.]

[Here's another person he needs to get acquainted with. She served on Ship A during the draft and is a crewmember aboard The Britannia so he's expecting her not to be unfamiliar with a ship.

Just how familiar she is, is the question. So he hangs back a few moments and just watches her.]

Miss Selphie? How are you getting settled in?

[Battle gear for Law is not terribly obvious, aside from the nodachi, the tanto strapped horizontally at his back at the waist. He has a belt of pouches, and another strapped to his thigh, but he's wearing boots, cargo pants, and a long sleeved hoodie. It hides the chain-mail mesh he's wearing underneath pretty well, though the glitter of silver might be caught as the fabric shifts at his neck.

He has a feeling a certain ninja would B| him to death if he left with absolutely no protective gear.]
