[Slightly closer, but. May as well jump right into it.]

"Exar Kun was a mysterious Sith who lived over four millenia ago, a fallen Jedi Knight of legendary and terrible power. Should he or his influence ever reach Luceti, both Luke and Obi-Wan believe that the results are likely to be catastrophic."

[Isn't it interesting, how he still refers to himself in the third person during these little profiles?

[Disturbing on so many levels is what she finds this, and not just for how Obi-Wan speaks.]

What is the connection between Luke Skywalker and Exar Kun?

[He pauses, frowning, then his head seems to twitch and he looks at her again, smiling blandly.]

"I'm sorry, could you repeat the question?"

[She sighs and sags. Of course. Limited information, even in a shift. It was quite likely Obi-Wan didn't even know. She prays he doesn't remember this in it's entirety later.]

Useless. You're useless like this.

[The neutral smile doesn't falter, but his voice sounds a bit less detached.]

"My sincerest apologies. If you have not found my information helpful, perhaps it is best to simply explore and learn the answers yourself. Experience is, after all, the best teacher."

[That was cruel, and she knows it. But at the moment she's really a touch too frustrated to bother.]

[He looks for a moment like he wants to say something, but it quickly fades. Bland smile.

Bland. Smile.

[There was no reason to be so worried. Not for Luke, not really but- They'd spoken of a sith appearing, of Vader- and Anakin appeared. She knows their luck. It's poor. So these concerns were not entirely unfounded and with as frustrating as this place could be- it was better to know of the worst. To brace and prepare for it.

All of her fire lost Adele turns back to Ben- steps close and rests her hands on his shoulders. Looking into his face for some flicker of...something. Anything. Anything beyond the blandness.]

Ben- Please. I need your help with this- I don't understand everything I should to help him and I just- [She shakes her head.] I need you to help me.

[The bland smile seems to slip away, and he simply stares at her for a moment, brow furrowed as if in concentration.

After another long moment, he speaks- this time, not bland and dead, but quietly sincere.]

"... I'm sorry."

[That was a start. The first shard of her friend Ben, not the automaton, that she's seen since this conversation began.]

Don't be. [She sighs.] It's not your fault.

[The response is automatic. Kneejerk. A bit bitter.]

"It never is."

[... And at that he looks almost confused.]

[That was odd. And uncharacteristic. Or. At least it seemed out of place.]

Of course it isn't. How could it be?

[The neutrality seems to be slipping back into place, but he speaks.]

"I have been told before that things are not my fault. People I fail to protect. Fail to save. Fail to help. Qui-Gon. Anakin. Luke. You."

[He seems almost casually inquisitive when he asks the next question.]

"Does it not seem an odd coincidence?"

There was nothing that anyone could have done- we've spoken of this. You are not at fault for any of it-

[That last, though. That was surprising. And confounding.]

...when have you failed me Ben?

"I appear to be doing so right now."

[... No inflection. No emotion. He could be remarking upon the weather.

It has been unseasonably cool lately.]

You're not Ben. I should know better than to ask such things of you while you are shifted.

[She shakes her head and lets her hands fall back to her sides.]

"Debatable, I suppose. Still, there is always time."

[A beat, and she continues slowly, surprised at herself.]

I have faith. In you. Do not sell yourself so short.

[He smiles again, not blandly but a bit sadly.]

"So did Anakin."

I am not Anakin. I listen.

[His voice hardens a bit.]

"Everybody has weaknesses that might be used against them. What happened to Anakin was no fault of his."

Nor was it any fault of yours. The blame is Palpatine's. Guilt over what cannot be changed doesn't help you or Anakin.

"Perhaps not, but neither does allowing yourself to depend upon somebody who is inherently unreliable."
