This is Britannia. Over the next few days, you will live and work here. Mister Kennedy and I will teach you the various jobs associated with running a ship, and we will try to assign you to various ones to see what answers best. I am Captain Hornblower, Mister Kennedy is my first lieutenant.
I will not tolerate personal squabbles. We are out to sea for four days, your bickerings can wait until the end of that. I will not tolerate disrespect. To either side, you will see small boats with oars -- quarterboats. Anyone who shows gross disrespect to myself, Mister Kennedy, or any crew member will be placed in one and made to row back to the shore. [It's hard to tell, looking at his face, if he's serious or it's merely a threat.]
Before we set sail, Mister Kennedy and I will explain everything you see on the spar deck -- where you stand now. Once we have set sail, you will be taken below and given a tour there in groups, as we cannot leave the deck unminded. We will begin in thirty minutes.
[And that's that. He'll confer with Archie a bit, maybe speak to one or two other people, and then it will be time to get underway.]
