Or a pirate - like me! [He displays his armband proudly.] Only one side can win, and how do I know you're not pulling a ninja trick? Who chooses to be an exorcist over being a pirate or a ninja?

Who'd wanna be a pirate or ninja?! Ninja got all sorts of weird rules and pirates are smelly, aren't they? Exorcists get to save people from demons!

[He blinks for a moment. He finds himself taking a step back - if this guy hates demons, it could only lead to trouble if he ever sees Kurt's real form. But what was up with... that tail?]

Hey, most pirates have good hygiene! And they're dashing swashbucklers! Plus, how's an exorcist supposed to know for sure that they're fighting a demon?

Man, demons stand out, man. For one, all of them have tails, and burn from holy water. But you ever seen a hobgoblin or a... uh, dekalp? They can't be anything but.

[Said the guy with the tail] Besides, a good exorcist's not fighting ones which ain't causing problems in the first place.

I can't say I've seen either of those. But I'll take your word for it.

So a demon can be docile, you say? [He's still wondering about the tail.]

Oh yeah, I mean, my bud Kuro's a demon, and he even used to be a god before people stopped worshipping him.

You can switch from a good to a demon just like that? No boring paperwork required?

Wha-- no, I mean he was always a demon, he was just a god for a while until people stopped worshiping him. Then he was my old man's familiar for a while.

Oh, a familiar? Aren't those supposed to be like animals?

Well Kuro's also a cat, sort-of.

Really? That's some far out stuff! Better be nice to that kitty!

Why wouldn it be? It's just Kuro, it's not like it'll be a big problem.

[Yeah, he just can't ignore that anymore.]

I don't mean to be rude, man, but your tail is showing.

Oh yeah, I know. I used to keep it wrapped up under my shirt, but it's really restricting, so I stopped.

[That and... being more honest about his heritage, but that's a whole different thing he doesn't need to tell a pirate about]

And would it be too much to ask... Why you have a tail? [It's the kind of thing Kurt would like to keep secret... and he'd appreciate this guy having similar privacy, but it's hard to tell if that's what he wants when the tail's being flaunted about.]

It's... 'cus I'm a demon. Sort of.

[Itching his chest, sheepishly sort of looking off in the other direction]

What... for real? [It's hard to conceive of someone his age with a tail being an actual demon... Maybe he just doesn't know he's a mutant...]

[rashness]

Yeah, for real...! It's thought my dad's side. My mom was apparently human, and I wasn't really raised by the guy who's actually my dad.

[This is all said pretty sheepishly, itching the back of his head. Confessions to some random pirate...]

[It feels all too oddly familiar to him. Part mutant, part demon, distant parents. Except with Kurt, he didn't know his dad, and his mom was the one acting as his plague. Within Rin's honesty, he finds himself mentally waffling whether or not he should match that.]
