[Ilyana smiles a little bit at that, getting a bit more into the spirit of it.]

Yeah well, I guess you're not so bad either... for a pirate.

[She tosses another one, this time at a tree branch slightly above him, thinking that maybe he'll think she missed, and then be surprised splashed by paint when it pops.]

Yo ho ho!

[It almost gets him. He can't help but hear the balloon hit the tree branch and quickly dives to the side.]

That was pretty smart!

[ilyana]

[Ilyana was a bit amazed that he'd still managed to dodge that one, almost certain she'd get him this time.]

How do you move so fast?

[She was trying to ready another one, but was having a hard time figuring out the best way to actually get him with it.]

Well I can Airbend, so that helps me move a lot faster!

[ilyana]

What? Air bending?

[Then an idea clicked in Ilyana's head.]

Oh I see then...

[It may be just your imagination Aang but Ilyana might have just got a bit an evil glint in her eye. She takes out a book from her bag, and before you can say holy tornadoes batman! She starts hurling dozens of water balloons your way, by using gusts of wind to propel them forward.]

Then I guess I should even the odds a bit more!

Whoa!

[And Aang begins frantically diving back and forth in his attempts to dodge the balloons, but some do wind up splashing him.]

[ilyana]

[Well now she was having a bit more fun with it.]

Hehe! You're lucky that air isn't my primary element!

[She's running a bit lower on ammo now, so she's being a bit more cautious with her balloons sent via wind. One balloon is sent spinning spiraling downwards at Aang, while another is curving in from the right.]

It's not?! You can bend more than one?!

[But as those balloons come towards him, he taps into some airbending himself, making a small whirwind around himself to try to deflect the balloons back at her.]

[ilyana]

Not quite! But you seem to be able to do a bit more tricks with it than I can!

[When she heard him say she could bend more than one she assumed he meant creating more than one gust of wind. She could in a sense, by blowing one gust and then another, but bending it was a weird way of describing it to her.]

I'm actually a bit of a lightning expert myself.

[She tried to pull out her staff to deflect the balloon that bounced back, but it only made it splat sooner against her arms.]

... Aww...

O-oh, so you can bend lightning. [That's one element, or part of an element for him, that can always make him uneasy in some way. But he shows some concern when she's splashed.]

Sorry, let me help! [And then he'll bend and liquid that's on Ilyana straight off, making a watery mass that he tosses to the side.]

[ilyana]

Well I suppose I could bend it ye-

[She blinks in surprise when the liquid is pulled off of her, leaving her with only the stained arm.]

Wha...? How... how did you do that?

[She's going to stop throwing water balloons for a bit, cause she seriously needs to know how that's done.]

Oh, I just waterbended it, that's all.

[ilyana]

Okay... please stop for a moment. What is bending?

[savedtheworld]

Right! Bending. In my world, there are people who can control the four elements a lot. And it's called bending.

[ilyana]

[This just makes her have more questions.]

How do they control it? Can everyone in your world do this? What stops people from using this skill? When you asked if I bend lightning, is that what you meant? What are the four elements that you are referring to? Lightning, wind, fire, and... water?

[He pauses and blinks for a moment. It's not that often when he has to deal with that many questions coming from someone other than Ikki. But luckily, from her example he's able to snipe down each question once she's done.]

Some people are just connected with the elements that way, and we control it by concentration and making special movements. Not everyone can do it; there are lots of people in our world who can't bend anything at all. I did mean that, but the four elements are actually air, water, fire and earth. Lightning's really just a part of fire.

[ilyana]

[As a mage most of this just didn't make sense to Ilyana who spent years of practice, memorization, and study to learn the arcane words to channel the powers of the universe.]

But that doesn't make any sense at all! Lightning and fire are completely different elements! Fire is extinguished by water, but water conducts electricity! Lightning and fire... they're just completely different forms of energy!

And is the bending ability something that gets passed down in the blood line? If so, then what happens if a Earth bender and a water bender get married? Would their children be mud benders? Or half of them water, and half of them Earth? Would the percentage of benders even be that high?

[She just felt frustrated trying to comprehend how their world's magic could be so... different.]

Really? Lightning's supposed to be the cold-hearted fire. And sometimes water can extinguish fire, but other times fire can evaporate water. It doesn't just go one way, but having the sun or moon around could help.

It doesn't always get passed down the blood line. Benders can give birth to non-benders, and non-benders can give birth to benders. I know of... of an airbender and a waterbender who'll give birth to a waterbender, a non-bender and an airbender. Everyone can only be just one bender, too, so no one can be half and half.

[ilyana]

Cold-hearted fire?! You think lightning is cold-hearted fire?!

[Look out Aang! You're totally getting a water balloon chucked at your head with a lot more accuracy than she had before!]

Say that again! I dare you!

[And he accepts it.]

Hey, that's just what it's called! Because firebending usually involves emotion, but lightningbending is all about calmness... I think. I mostly know how to deflect it.

[ilyana]

[She still looks a little grouchy, but she'll accept that his world's magic is clearly a lot different.]

Hmm... I see. I don't know much about lightning bending, but I think you'd probably have a hard time deflecting the amount of lightning I can produce. Still... I hope you never have to see me actually use it.

So, how about you then? Have you ever bent lightning before?

No, and I never want to. [He says fairly sternly.] It's - it's too deadly. I've only deflected it, once.

[ilyana]

[Her expression softens considerably when she sees how troubled he is by the idea of it.]

... What's your name?

Uh - I'm Aang. [He holds out his hand uncertainly.]

[ilyana]

[Ilyana offers out her own hand to gently shake his.]

Aang, I'm Ilyana. If at all possible... I would like to teach you more about my way of using lightning sometime. Okay?
