Happy Happy Turkey Day

Summary: It's Thanksgiving. There's a meal and socializing. Also fun.
Rating: PG, PG-13 max? A kid got invited to this.
Considering how last minute all of this had been, Pepper was actually pretty satisfied with how things were turning out. Rogue had shown up early with helpers in tow, immediately setting to work in the kitchen. The house had been filled with delicious aromas shortly thereafter, and Pepper busied herself with the other details until guests started to arrive--at which point part of her job became keeping people out of the kitchen, per Rogue's orders.

The set up was straightforward: the dining room table was used to hold the assorted dishes, where people could fix themselves plates. A similar set up with drinks (although please, don't give alcohol to the children). Chairs set out for people to sit, since there were too many to even attempt a traditional sit down dinner. But that was fine by Pepper, who made her way through the group, making sure everyone was happy, or at least not destroying part of her house.

Better safe than sorry, with this crowd.

The dress doesn't hurt any; she does look fantastic, but he's more pleased to see her looking healthy again. He gives a soft laugh at her questions and nods. "I have been known, on occasion, to need to get into some places that frown upon jeans and tactical gear. Also, Coulson said I had to."

He takes the drink when it's offered and taps his glass with hers before taking a sip. "Happy Thanksgiving."

"And far be it from anyone to object when Phil says they have to." At least, anyone in SHIELD. Tony's a different case, but he's Tony. If he just goes along with things people want him to do without complaint, either he's plotting something in secret or something's possibly wrong.

She smiles when he touches their glasses. "Happy Thanksgiving."

"Exactly. You know him very well," he replied with a grin. "Better men than me have fallen to him." The footage from these incidents was hoarded jealously and had become near legendary within SHIELD. There were rumours about Coulson's prowess with paperclips and string.

"I want to thank you for hosting too. It's really nice."

"I'm sure there are quite a few stories going around." That would definitely be interesting footage to see.

"Oh, thank you. Rogue is responsible for the bulk of the hard work though." Which Pepper would gladly point out to everyone; the woman deserved her credit. "I'm glad you're enjoying it."

"Just a few," he said dryly. You didn't get to be Fury's right hand by being anything approaching average.

"Yeah, I thanked her. She did a great job. Like I told her, last Thanksgiving was takeout and bad movies."

"Ours usually involve some business or charity function." Or Tony being cooped up in his lab, working on some project or another. But she wouldn't let her thoughts wander too far down that road.

"I'm really happy with how things have turned out."

"I always thought that would kind of be the high life. Expensive suits, parties and stuff. And yet Natasha managed to make it sound kind of tedious." Admittedly, she was acting as his PA at the time but...

"It's great. I think everyone deserves a bit of a party right now."

“I can’t say there aren’t perks—but it can get dull.  Especially since a lot of it involves biting your tongue and playing nice.”  Which was generally true.  Pepper was certain that Natasha hadn’t been talking about Tony’s birthday party, however.  Not if she used the word tedious.
 
She nodded, thinking about everything that had happened in the brief time before this—how they’d all earned something light and fun.  “Yes, definitely.”

"Oh well, I generally try to avoid that kind of situation," he says with a joking tone. He could be a sarcastic and mouthy piece of work when he wanted to be, but he wouldn't have survived so long in SHIELD and as a freelancer if he hadn't been able to hold his tongue.

"Are you having fun?"
