For the first time a in a while, a New Feather Party is taking place! Everyone has been working hard, making sure that everything is ready for the big day. The school cafeteria is decorated with streamers, some spring flowers and a hand-painted Welcome banner, placed right where everyone can see it. Most of the foods are simple party snacks: cakes, cookies, sandwiches and the like. However, Rin has hauled over a grill and is providing some cooked foods.

The most important part is the booths. The various organizations in Luceti have been invited to set up booths and tables in order to recruit new members and to inform the new feathers of their existence. There's even a general information booth, run by Marita Covarrubias, so New Feathers can ask any questions they have about Luceti. After all, when adjusting to a new place, information about your surroundings is the most important thing!

Near the end of the party, once it's a little darker out, there's even a small fireworks show. It's a nice way a party. After all, who doesn't like fireworks?

Small?! Luceti feels huge compared to Lawndale...how big is your city, anyway?

Really? [She's thoughtful.] Republic City is the largest modern city in the world. I mean, Ba Sing Se is bigger, but it's mostly farmland...

It's the Earth Kingdom capital. It's huge, the ride from the outer wall to the inner wall is supposed to be...

[She trails off and grins sheepishly.]

None of this means anything to you, does it.

Well, I don't know where any of those places are...

Sometimes I think I'll never get used to this.

Anyway. Uh. Where are you from?

[Subject change subject chaaaaange.]

I'm from Lawndale. It's got a great mall and pretty houses, but it's kind of boring.

[tokennonbender]

And I've never heard of it. [A faint smile.] I guess this is pretty normal.

You could tell me more about the city, though! And I could tell you about Lawndale, even if it might be a little boring...I can tell you about the good stuff we've got, like the malls and Chez Pierre.

Well...Republic City is huge, for one thing. There are a few hundred buildings, at least, some very tall. It's a port for that whole section of the earth continent, really. And it's always very busy, there are always people out, any time day or night.

[Asami misses all that bustle.]

That sounds so exciting! Kind of like New York City only hopefully with less smog and icky garbage in the streets.

Well, we have some...smog. My father's factories aren't too bad for it but we make some.

The garbage isn't an issue though.

[Except for the more unsettling parts of town, anyway...]

Oh, your dad owns factories? As in, more than one? [she looks rather impressed]

Several, yes. The one main factory and a few smaller ones...and one I hadn't even known about.

[She looks distant for a moment, then shakes her head and forces a smile.]

Doesn't matter here though.

Wow...your family must be so rich! [the distant look doesn't even register with her]

[Asami looks a tad embarrassed.]

I suppose we are. I never really thought about it much...

Really? [Most of the rich people she knows love to brag about it.]

[Asami shrugs.] Well, yes. I mean...it was just the way things always were?

I never really had to...dwell on it. Or think about it.

[And she wasn't the sort to rub it in people's faces. Though sometimes she wasn't above showing off, of course.]

You're not like the rich girls I know...some of them are pretty showy about it.

Well, it can be nice to show off sometimes. [She grins.]

But I don't have to usually.

Oh, yeah, I've shown off plenty of times. I know some people think it's rude, but why not flaunt it if you've got it?

[tokennonbender]

Well, there's a line between being showy and flaunting it and being flashy and making an ass of yourself. I just like to make sure I'm not accidentally falling into the second group.

[Quinn nods, knowing she's definitely fallen into the second group more than once. No, a lot more than once.]

That's probably a good idea.
