For the first time a in a while, a New Feather Party is taking place! Everyone has been working hard, making sure that everything is ready for the big day. The school cafeteria is decorated with streamers, some spring flowers and a hand-painted Welcome banner, placed right where everyone can see it. Most of the foods are simple party snacks: cakes, cookies, sandwiches and the like. However, Rin has hauled over a grill and is providing some cooked foods.

The most important part is the booths. The various organizations in Luceti have been invited to set up booths and tables in order to recruit new members and to inform the new feathers of their existence. There's even a general information booth, run by Marita Covarrubias, so New Feathers can ask any questions they have about Luceti. After all, when adjusting to a new place, information about your surroundings is the most important thing!

Near the end of the party, once it's a little darker out, there's even a small fireworks show. It's a nice way a party. After all, who doesn't like fireworks?

[Now Emil's face is pink, and he turns his head away slightly to hide it.]

It's hard to mind such flattering attention. I'm going to have to disappoint you, though. My heart belongs to someone else.

[It's just a phrase, an idiom of love, but it makes her actual heart skip for a second. It really didn't belong to her, did it? Not anymore. Maybe it never had.]

Oh...

[He does sound rather disappointed by that... probably more disappointed than he meant to sound. Was he really that obvious?]

... I mean, that's okay, I wasn't really asking if you liked me anyway-- not that I would mind if you did like me, but it's okay if you don't too. B-but whoever you like is a lucky guy! ... or girl.

[Yes, he was really that obvious. Later on, Rue might muse that she could have phrased it a little differently.]

He is the only one I've ever loved.

[He doesn't seem too upset now that he hears her words, though. She seems happy, so he can't get too down over this.]

He must be a great guy for you to love him that much.

We are meant to be together.

[It's amazing how well she can summarize it without any of the horrifying parts coming through in her words.]

Wow... that sounds romantic. Like something out of a book, almost.

Almost.

[For a few seconds, her gaze sharpens. What an appropriate choice of words.

Then she remembers herself and her complete estrangement from anything else in this place and the sharpness fades.]

[Don't think Emil doesn't notice that, Rue.]

... is something wrong?

No, nothing at all. [Rue reaches for her hair, as though it moved out of place and caused her to look disturbed.] Why?

[Now Emil blinks, looking slightly embarrassed. Maybe he'd misinterpreted her expression? Probably. He's been messing things up a lot in this conversation...]

Oh, um... nothing. I must've made a mistake, that's all.

Don't dwell on it. [He's as easy to play as a piano.] You're meant to facilitate this gathering, are you not?

[Grateful for the subject change, Emil perks back up.]

Kind of! Pilouette is the one who's really in charge, but I'm here to advertise Brave Vesperia to anyone who might be interested.

[Then he's done a shoddy job so far, at least to Rue's face.]

Brave Vesperia sounds daring.

It sounds a lot more exciting than it is. Maybe someday we'll actually get to do something more exciting than building a shed...

What are you supposed to do?

Yuri made it sound like the guild in his world did stuff like fighting monsters and going on quests. Not that I really want to fight monsters, but it would be a lot more interesting than just building things.

Fight monsters? That doesn't sound like a group that people are going to want to participate in.

[Now Emil sounds... a little disappointed, almost.]

Are monsters real? [This is a question about the nature of the story.]

They are in some worlds, but not all of them. They're all over where I come from, just like animals.
