He doesn't really catch on to why Firo is blushing. Sure, he's heard the tale of Dallas Genoard since the incident and he can agree that the man was very unpleasant, but much of that, to him, doesn't compare to the shock and anger he'd felt from seeing Szilard Quates, or the relief that he was finally gone, or the terror when he realized his friends were immortal. In the end he felt relief, too, but the bottom line was that he can't even remember Dallas' face. He decides to just smile in response to Firo's apology.
