House of M - The Beginning

Summary: Billy returns from a kidnapping feeling a bit, er, different. A white light envelops the village for just a moment, and when it fades... well. All kinds of things are different, actually.
Rating: Varies, anything above R take it elsewhere!

It starts off so innocently, early on the morning of October 1st. A burst of light, a warm rush of energy that consumes everything it touches, and it's gentle enough to feel like stepping out into sunlight from the shade. It's so brief that some people might not even notice it happened. But there are certainly... differences. Some subtle, some not. And those changed won't even understand the problem.

After all, why would perfection be a problem?

The truth is, there are no problems. There can't be. It's perfect, Billy thinks. Believes it. His belief is his reality, and now, it's their reality. It all has to be perfect; they deserve it, all of them, for one reason or another. And he'll do whatever he has to protect that perfection from being tainted, ruined, taken away from them.

Teddy died so this could happen, after all.

[Loki has been working on a new toy for Anja, which is quite shiny. And it's gone missing. He has a good guess where it's gotten to...

And goodness Kurt, Bible study? When your not-quite-brother-in-law is a god? Gosh. There might be some teasing over that while Loki's retrieving the toy in progress.

He's got Anja with him, since she's started teething and tends to fuss less if he's walking around with her.]

Samuel and Penelope are both fighting over the toy in question while the other kids are just contributing to the bamfing madhouse. Kurt is leaning over, trying to separate the two, while Amanda has something cooking on the oven.

Kurt looks up as he hears someone at the door. "Amanda, can you get that?"

"They better both still be in one piece when I look back," she said with a wry smile towards them as she went to the door, answering with a friendly smile. "Oh... Loki! Hello."

"Hello, Amanda." Loki looks in at the chaos with an approving glance. "Something of mine seems to have wandered off, so I'm just... looking around."

She sighs, all too used to this by now. "By all means, come in." She moves to let him in - oh and she does the kiss hello, that should totally be a thing. "Feel free to investigate the crime scene."

And Kurt waves meekly from the scene of trying to pull the two tykes away from each other. "Loki! What brings you here, my brother?"

Loki accepts the kiss with a long-suffering air. Humans and their human things. He'll put up with it because he's turned over a new, non-stabbing leaf. (Hey, it might not be his perfect world, but that's probably a condition of everyone else's.)

He offers Amanda the baby and grins. "Could I trouble you to hold my baby for me? This might get messy."

"The usual sort of thing. Shiny bits have gone missing. Light little fingers may have been involved."

She gives a sigh, but she can't say no taking hold of a creature so adorable. "Hey, you - I've got babies here too, you know," she says with a joking sternness before stepping off into the background with Loki's baby.

"Don't tell me... Not again!" Kurt frowns and looks between his children. "Does anyone have anything they'd like to confess?" The kids proceed to look innocent. While Samuel and Penelope are quick to stop struggling over the toy and hide it behind their backs.

"One more shouldn't be any trouble at all, then." He grins at her, winking.

Then an exaggerated sigh. "Well, the pleasure of your company is great, but... I'm afraid I am here on business." He crossed his arms and looked quite stern. "Which of them shall I be turning into a frog?"

"So?" He looks around between them all. "Which of you's ready to be hopping?" And he looks towards Loki. "What is it we're talking about here?"

"It's a silver sphere, about so big." He gestured with his hands. He caught a flash of light as one of the children moved slightly. "Rather like that one."
