Where: One of the villas in Luceti's housing area
Summary: Luceti's residents of Abel Township have landed themselves under house arrest. But even if they can't go to the parties, who's to say they can't bring the party to them? (Or at least some takeout, geez, this punishment thing is hungry work.)
Rating: PG? It's just some post-zombie-apocalypse dudes and their houseguests, it's not really gonna be racy.


Maybe Halloween Land hadn't been the best destination for a small cluster of survivors of the zombie apocalypse.

In their defense, they hadn't known when they'd walked in that literal zoms would be all over the place. Even as placid as the things were, all it took were a few too many of the shambling dead in one place, strained nerves and the wrong line of conversation, and one poorly-timed jumpscare to set off the powder keg of their collective neuroses and send them sprinting for the nearest defensible position between them and the exits. And sure, all weapons had been taken to the battle dome. But where they came from, all that defined a weapon was a favourable combination of weight, length, sharpness, and maximum velocity. Where they came from, they'd all learned a few behaviours on an instinctual level.

It was sort of lucky, actually, that they only had managed to get themselves landed under house arrest for the remainder of the day. It meant that they still had contact with the outside world - or at least the portions of it that wandered close enough to the open windows.

It was my call that got her killed.

[She sighs, letting herself both look and feel weak just for this moment. Every time that she thinks that she's gotten over this, it just goes and stabs her in the gut again.

God dammit.]

[He's never entirely sure what to do in these moments. Maxine is way better at this than he is. She knows what to say, when to offer a hug, when to just sit quietly. But he knows how this is, how it is to lose someone because of a choice you made. It haunts him, what happened to Alice. If he hadn't sent her to the hospital. If he'd been a bit more observant, if he'd argued with Janine about sending her there...

After a moment, he just leans over and hugs Kate, holding her tight, because no words make it okay. No approval can ever fix it.]

[Eli hadn't really understood. What happened with Nate when he had been the leader of the Young Avenger's hadn't really been anyone's fault. It had been because of Nate that the Young Avengers had formed in the first place. But Kate had made the active decision to make the team assist Billy in his hunt for his mother.

Sam gets it. He's been in her shoes. And it's kind of cathartic to admit this much to him. She smiles crookedly as she leans into Sam's arms and closes her eyes.

There are no words.]

[He held her close, taking a shuddering breath of his own, the conversation dragging a few of his own bad memories to the fore. She's warm too, and it feels kind of nice. Different to when Maxine hugs him at least. But she's hurting right now, and he's not about to do anything to make her think she's misplaced her trust.]

[tryit]

[She feels him shutter and stretches her arm around the small of his back, holding him back in return. They can hurt together. It has to be better than hurting alone.

A lot of things have to be better than that.]

Thanks. [The word is muttered eventually as she looks up to grin ruefully at him. After a second's hesitation, she places a quick kiss on his cheek.] It's nice to have someone who gets it.

[The touch of Kate holding him in return helps him to relax a little, and he lets out a slow breath. It does help knowing that someone's there. Maybe she understands in a way that even Simon doesn't.

He smiles back at her, a little bashful but grateful too. The kiss kind of just makes that worse.]

Yeah. Yeah, it really is. It's important.

[tryit]

[Aww, the blush is back. At least, she thinks it's a blush. It's hard to tell in the glow of the television light.

Regardless, it's still cute.]

Look, if you ever want to talk about life back in Zombieland, don't hesitate.

I- I might take you up on that. God knows your perspective gets a bit skewed living it. Thanks.

[She returns the gratitude with a soft smile.]

I don't think it matters what the situation is. Being responsible for the lives of other people can really suck sometimes.

Yeah, yeah, it really does. But still, there's something brilliant about it when you get them all home safe.

[tryit]

[It's not something she's all that familiar with anymore. The Young Avengers pretty much fell apart after losing Cassie and Jonas. Kate shrugs, frowning.]

I dunno.

[voiceinthedark]

You will. I mean, the bad things do kind of feel overwhelming. I've lost enough people to know that. But it's the good moments that you have to focus on, because otherwise there's nothing to do except lay down and die. And I guess I'm too stubborn for that. And I think you are too.

You're right about that.

[She is stubborn. It's the only way she's managed to get past her assault six years prior. It's also probably the reason she's back in the superhero game now. Or was, before winding up in Luceti.]
