Happy Thanksgiving!

Who: Kate Bishop and anyone interested.
What: Celebrate Thanksgiving.

Where: Kate's apartment (and the kitchen of Floor 6 of the Ground Building)
Summary: Earlier in the week, Kate put out an journal message inviting people to Thanksgiving. This is the result.
Rating: PG/PG-13

It wasn't until cooking experimentation two nights before at Sam and Simon's that Kate began to suspect that cooking a Thanksgiving dinner might be a whole lot harder than she had planned. Apparently, there was a relatively big difference between cooking just one dish for yourself and cooking enough to feed a horde.

At the end of the day, though, Kate finds herself pleased with the end result. The table she dragged into her apartment is set up against the wall to act as a buffet table. People ought to be willing to help themselves to whatever food they want. And there's definitely a decent spread, thanks in part mostly to her friends.



If there's one thing Kate Bishop is thankful for this year? It's having the people she has in her life.

He smiles back, taking a sip with an expression akin to bliss. "I admit, the deer head was a surprise," he replies with a small smile. "What was with that anyway?"

"Hell if I know," she admits, smile quickly turning to a thoughtful frown. It really was one of the stranger points in the night. And given Kate's set of friends, this Thanksgiving had all the makings of being on the strange side to begin with. "Next time? Maybe I'll actually filter the invite."

"Well, it was certainly memorable," Sam replies. "Well, you do have a year or so to think about it and decide on the right course of action, I guess. It was just odd."

[tryit]

Memorable's one way to put it. But Kate just shrugs it off. The meal wasn't ruined. That, at least, was a relief.

"A whole year? I don't know if I want to think that far ahead."

[voiceinthedark]

"Yeah, I can understand that." Because lasting a year sometimes seemed impossible these days, like winning the lottery had been before. "So don't think about it. Christmas is much closer anyway."

[tryit]

"Yeah," she mutters, frowning a little in thought. She turns her head to glance at him a second later. "Speaking of, any idea what you want?"

[voiceinthedark]

He gives her a slightly shocked look, because, god, that hadn't even occurred to him. Christmas. A real one. "Oh uh... I hadn't even thought about it honestly."

[tryit]

"Now's the time, y'know."

Thanksgiving's come and past. By now, all the stores back home would have had their Christmas decorations up.

[voiceinthedark]

"I guess," he replies. "I like Christmas even if it was never a huge deal at home. My dad was pretty traditional y'know? I'll think about it. And you let me know what you want, okay?"

[tryit]

"I'm easy. Definitely a firm believer in the whole 'it's the thought that counts' school."

How could she not be? There was little she lacked for growing up. She learned to love surprises early on. Even if it was an utterly repulsive Christmas sweater, it meant someone had put some thought into the gift. And that meant a whole lot more than all the money in the world.

"What about Simon? What kind of things does he like?"

[voiceinthedark]

"Oh well, chocolate and bath salts then?" Sam replies teasingly.

Of course this meant that he'd have to find something really nice for her.

"Simon god... I don't know. He has a lot of health and fitness stuff? Seriously, you should see the cupboard at home."

[tryit]

She grins at his suggestion of gifts and shrugs. As far as gifts go, they're really not bad suggestions. She's impressed. Mr. Shy Guy knows what ladies like, after all.

"I spend enough time at you guys' house lately to realize that," she quips. "But - I mean, I know it's going to sound lame since we'll have only been together about two months - I'd like to give him something special? Something more than just the latest subscription to Luceti Men's Fitness."

He has had girlfriends before. And a trip to The Body Shop was way easier than hunting around town for something. At least he'd be in the right ballpark. Doesn't hurt that either of those would be a luxury item for anyone these days.

"True." He lets out a soft huff of amusement. "A set of monogrammed yoga mats?"

[tryit]

Kate quirks her lips to the side as she thinks it over. That's definitely something that seems to scream Simon. Not as special as she'd like but... "Complete with a monogrammed carry bag?"

[voiceinthedark]

"Oh, absolutely. it is Christmas after all," Sam replies with ateasing smile.

[tryit]

"Maybe," she muses, grinning back at him. "Or maybe I should leave the monogramming up to you. Unless this is some covert way of suggesting you want a monogram robe."

A beat. "Silk?"

[voiceinthedark]

"Me? I can't monogram anything. Maybe I could draw something in marker pen but that's about it." He gives her an incredulous look at that suggestion. "I'd look ridiculous."

[tryit]

"I don't know. I think you might look kind of hot."

Said with a wink. Just to see how much he'd blush. Really.

[voiceinthedark]

"What?" He gives her a startled look, his blush obvious. "Uh... I mean... I'm not hot."

[tryit]

Maybe not hot in the same way Simon's hot. But Sam has his own kind of charms. His modesty, for one. That's something her boyfriend's definitely lacking. Not that Kate's ever found reason to complain. Face it, when it comes to Simon lately, she's smitten.

"Yes, you are."

[voiceinthedark]

"Well, thanks," he says, smiling a little, thoroughly awkward of course.

[tryit]

“Anytime,” she answers, leaning close to place a quick kiss on his cheek. Then, she stands and stretches, lifting arms up over her head as she refrains from yawning. “I’m going to go see how Simon’s doing in the kitchen. Wanna come?”

[voiceinthedark]

The kiss feels pretty nice and when she stands he follows. "Sounds good to me. Make sure he's not causing trouble."

[tryit]

She chuckles at that, a fond sort of chuckle of someone very much in like with her boyfriend. "Probably unlikely. I'm starting to notice that Simon and trouble are something of an OTP."

[voiceinthedark]

"Oh you can say that again," Sam replied with a grin. "Did I ever tell you about the time he brought home crates of viagra from a meds run?"
