Uh. I don't know about that. [Helpful. Sorry Rin.] I wasn't going to transform for this...

[Using his sword in his other form isn't something he's used to do doing, it's far easier for him to punch and kick when transformed instead. But if he doesn't transform then he's not sure how he'll be able to keep up with Rin if he does... But you know, this raises another question.]

If you did transform then would you use your flames? I was wondering about my artes. [Most of them are just different moves with a sword, which he's pretty sure he could use, but then there's Beast and Demon Fang...]

[In the silence that follows, his reserved smile seems to broaden just a little. Or perhaps it's only the play of sunlight and shadow over his lean, sharp features.]

...I am certain I can think of something. But let us begin with supper, shall we?

[Fayt steps out into the Arena, vaguely recognizing the redhead who walks in opposite him after a moment.

Luke, wasn't it? He arrived a few months ago, from what he could remember, though they hadn't talked much. He offers a cheerful grin as he stops a short distance away, resting his own hand on the hilt of the blade tucked in a sheath at his back.] Hey. Been a while. Settled in alright?

[Might as well get introductions out of the way before they got into it.]

I'm pretty sure using 'em would be cheating, wouldn't it...? But I'm not sure if transforming is cheating in the first place. [ And at this, he's no longer ready for battle, he's crossing his arms in mild confusion as he tries to think this over. Besides, both of them can transform, so that might be more even, right...? They should probably ask the judges or something ]

[The retaliatory kick was easy enough for Cliff to dodge, but he had to admit that he was impressed with the kid to a small degree. He hadn't expected that level of alertness and agility from such a skinny guy-- clearly, he needed to be a little more careful.

Cliff slipped back out of the kid's range and swung out with a sweeping roundhouse, planning on using his greater height to his advantage in this little spar.]

[He was so ready for things to get started, but now his shoulders droop and he sighs.]

I don't know if transforming would be cheating either... But I'm not going to since I can handle a sword better like this. [Human form does the slashing. Beast form does the punching. Kind of hard to do the punching in a swordsmanship competition.] Wouldn't it be easier if you didn't too?

[Easier as in they won't have to mess around finding out what the ruling is on transformations.]

[Firo makes it to the ring a few moments later, dressed in his usual suit, though minus the usual jacket. It would probably make more sense to wear something more relaxed, but he's accustomed to fighting in these clothes.

The fights Firo gets into tend to be random and hostile, so he's not really sure how to greet the other guy in the ring. A handshake would be nice, but it could easily turn into a throw or an elbow. He decides to settle for a wave.

Hey. Gai, right?

[He looks the man up and down. ...Though, mostly up considering his height.]

[Elizabeth, on the other hand, is fairly short and human. She can't see over the crowd, but she figures that if Gai isn't up just yet, it isn't as important for her to be at the front. She really doesn't know how she feels about this tournament anyway-- Gai obviously wanted to be in it, but Elizabeth could only think about the various and sundry ways in which he could be injured.]

[It's incredibly stressful for her to think about, so she settles into a spot at the back of the crowd in a nice shady patch... created by the giant library owl.]

[Elizabeth frowns and looks around, but there really isn't another place to sit down-- just plenty of standing room. She sits down at the very edge of Wan Shi Tong's shadow and opens her book to read. That should calm her down a little.]

[After getting in some practice a couple days before, Rudy's feeling fairly chipper today. He was pretty curious at the idea of a tournament here, especially since he'd never actually competed in one before. He'll be doing a bit of spectating before it's time for the marksmanship event, a bright smile spread across his face. And maybe doing a bit of cheering too! Because, hey, this is pretty fun.

Once the targets are set up inside the chamber, he'll take aim, concentrating into the ARM as he takes his first shot. Considering the type of gun he's using, he oddly enough has no problems shooting it single-handedly. Which might look a bit odd to any onlookers familiar with guns.]

[Peggy is standing as judge, watching through a pair of binoculars with a scorecard on a clipboard in her hands. She's dressed in her military uniform today, replacing skirt and heels with combat boots and trousers to facilitate getting around. Earplugs in, she watches through the binoculars as the first shot pierces its target.

Three shots allowed and each shot was marked 1 to 10. When she notes the first shot, she lowers the binoculars and marks the score.]

7. Two shots remaining.

[Peggy is standing as judge, watching through a pair of binoculars with a scorecard on a clipboard in her hands. She's dressed in her military uniform today, replacing skirt and heels with combat boots and trousers to facilitate getting around. Earplugs in, she watches through the binoculars as the first shot pierces its target. It's an unusual gun, one which she wants to take a closer look at, but that isn't her job. She's fairly impressed that someone can shoot a behemoth like that one-handed, but she stands impartially, watching through the glasses, intent on the target. She can talk to him once his shots are finished.

5. Two shots remaining.

[Seven. It's not a fantastic shot, but it's not a terrible shot either. If she can keep her last two shots toward the center, then she can walk away with a good score. Maybe not the top prize, but at least something she can be proud of.

Ginia readies her second shot. Deep breath, steady, fire.]

[ Fortunately, a roundhouse kick is a sort of movement that's telegraphed before actually lands, and quite extensively at that. Masaomi's able to drop into a low crouch to get out of the way of it- and all the better for it, because the air movement from it implies that would have hurt a lot. Now crouched, he makes to slide off off to one side, so he can stand from a new position ]

Yeah, it'd probably be less confusing. It's just then I can't use Kurikara.

[ But okay! Random sword it is. He sets Kurikara aside to take up this random katana he prepped at the shop just in case]

[Two shots left, huh? Although, that first one shot was a bit on the lower side of things.

Well, let's try for a better shot this time! Steadying himself and aiming towards the target, he directs his concentration into the ARM once more. Just have to synchronize himself completelely to it like always. With a squeeze of the trigger, the second round goes off.]

[He notices Elizabeth right away, but pays her no mind. That is until she pulls out a book to read. Interesting.

Was she doing this to taunt him? Or was this an innocent act by someone who was ignorant in the current situation? Regardless he decides to try this finesse tactic he had been advised to use and strike up conversation.]

May I ask what you are reading?

[Nevermind that he can clearly see the words on the pages and the cover.]

[So! That dealt with, are they cool to go now? If so then he'll ready up again and take the same stance he had before.]

[It would've hurt. Despite his words, Cliff was still playing at a decent level out of respect for his opponent. He was very agile.

Relaxing his position, Cliff pounded a fist against his palm and grinned.]

You're not doing so bad, kid. How long've you been at this?

[Elizabeth gives the ground above her book an annoyed look before turning to Wan Shi Tong and frowning.]

Journey to the Center of the Earth-- but it's my copy. [She flips to the frontispiece of the book and points to the print date: 1901.] From my tower, in my home. And I'm very stressed right now, my fiance is in the tournament, I read to calm down.

[She closes the book and holds it to her.] There's nothing that can be abused in here, the technology is all outdated anyway...

[In truth, the only reason Gai isn't wearing his own Funeral Parlor uniform is that Elizabeth had talked him out of it, saying it wasn't really the right impression to give off at a competition. Seeing his opponent in a suit makes him wish that he had worn it, though, if only because that's also what he's used to fighting in.

But that's neither here nor there, and he dwells on it for less than two seconds before raising his own hand in a casual wave.]

That's right. You must be Firo.

[Wow, this kid looks like he's even shorter than Shu. Still, Gai isn't about to underestimate him just because he's small. He's seen enough combat to know that size has nothing to do with ferocity.]

[She waited for the shot to pierce and then called out the second score.]

5. One shot remaining.

The wind picked up from the east, Ms. Solana.

[It was strange that they simulated weather in the Battle Dome, but at the same time, it was accurate. Whoever had programmed this place had done so quite well.]

[She stands absolutely still, knowing from experience that the slightest sound or distraction can throw a person's concentration off. She watches through the binoculars and as the round pierces the target, writes down the number.]

7. One shot remaining. The wind is dying down.

[Although it was the responsibility of the participants to be able to read such things, as a spotter and a judge, she would actually feel bad to see someone miss their mark because of something so small (and yet so large) as the simulated wind on the shooting range.]

[Tch. The shot annoys her, but Ginia doesn't let it show. She stops to observe the wind, recalculate all the adjustments needed, then takes aim. Feet firm on the ground, slight bend in her knees and leaning forward, the handgun tight in her hands.

She waits for the wind to settle a bit more before taking her final shot. What happens happens.]

[It takes a moment, but the adjustment finished, Peggy raises her binoculars again and listens for the dull crack of the gun. A moment later and the hole appears in the target and she lets herself smile a bit.]

8. Final shot recorded.

[She lowered the binoculars and wrote in the score, tallying it up.]

The results of all participants shall be posted as soon as all competitors are finished. At that time we'll be having any face-offs as necessary.

Will you be watching any of the other participants today?

[Better than the first and second. It's not the best score, but it'll do. Ginia snaps the safety on the gun and unloads the gun before setting it down. She heaves a small sigh as she takes out her ear protection and removes her safety glasses, also setting everything down before turning to Peggy and giving a small smile.]

/I'll keep an eye out for the results. And yes, I'll be around, though I'm also working as a volunteer./
