What: First Annual Luceti Tournament

Where: Battle Dome
Summary: Peony has made good on his promise to set up a tournament and today is the day for all the action.
Rating: PG-13 for the violence/fighting/possible language.

Finally the promised day has arrived! As competitors and audiences alike gather for the start, the whole outside area draws the eye to the grand carpet and banners with symbols for every event. There is also a table being restocked with free snacks and water bottles for those waiting around or still finding their way. Most notably, though, is a signboard with the times for all the events and competitors.

Whether you're competing or here for the entertainment, however, it's hoped you'll enjoy the events and fight or cheer hard! Now without further ado, make your own threads or comment around and let the games begin...

[Staff Contest] (Remy vs. Frey)

((OOC: Winner has been prerolled to have Frey as the victor.))

[A smart idea would had been for Remy to maybe do some training or practice leading up to the tournament, however as he had just come back from a mission he felt a greater need to relax than do anything too strenuous. This was more for fun than anything too serious, after all, he had no real desire to actual hurt someone in the tournament, including whoever this Frey was.]

[Having already gotten rid of his coat and with his unextended bo staff in hand, Remy focused on a few simple stretches (why chance pulling something?) and browsed the spectators for any familiar faces as he waited for the match to begin.]

[Not too bad. It's slightly better then the last one, although still not quite dead center. He nods in return, adjusting his stance and waiting for the wind to calm a bit before readying his final shot.

All right, last one. Let's make it count.]

Yeah, just fine. [Aside from a couple weird things that happened in April, he's alright.] Fayt, right? I haven't had a good fight since I got here. Sorry if I'm a little rusty.

[He grins a little, knowing that he's actually not that rusty. He practices every day he can, very diligently, just in case Van comes or he has to protect his friends.

He draws his sword, assuming a loose and easygoing position.]

Anyway, ready when you are.

[So much for finesse. He knew it wouldn't work.]

Karla vs. Raven (Sword Round 1)

[OOC: Karla will win this match, pre-determined.]

[Karla entered the tournament for one reason, and one reason only. It was the event where the strongest warriors would gather. And wherever there were strong warriors, she would surely find her brother. Or at least she hoped so. She had relied on this same logic every time she entered the arenas in Elibe, only to be met with disappointment every time. The fighters just weren't strong enough. If they were no match for her, they were certainly no match for Karel.]

[But the warriors in Luceti had abilities that would surely satisfy the most insatiable battle lust. If Karel was in Luceti, this competition would surely catch his attention. No doubt he would be in the final round, and most likely he would win the whole thing. (But that's just Karla's own bias talking.)]

[Karla inhales deeply as she steps into the arena. She needs to focus on her own battles first. The rules here are different from what she's used to. The use of a "points" system is new to her. So there would be no "one-hit KO and vanish" act that she's been known for. Thus she would need to hold back, and carefully.]

I don't know, do you feel the need to take over whatever library you lay eyes on? [Well, there was that answer. Elizabeth takes a short breath and sighs, trying to calm down.]

...I'm trying not to be scared for my fiance right now, because he enjoys this kind of thing. I want to be supportive, but I feel like I'm going to be sick at any moment. I just have to focus on something else.

[Vindictiveness is certainly one reason why he doesn't care much for humans.]

I see little reason to worry for anyone's safety to the point of physical illness. It is merely a competition and not a war.

True, but what if he gets hurt? I don't think everybody is here just for sportsmanship, I think some people have something to prove. Some of us have had our abilities limited in here, and I'd think that an opportunity to 'show off' wouldn't be overlooked by those people.

And he isn't completely healthy, either... [Elizabeth looks down at the pages and decides to just close the book. So much for that plan.]

If I am not mistaken, there are many capable healers present for such an event. There are also the judges and referees who are watching closely. The probability that significant harm would come to anyone, even if someone were reckless, is quite low.

Many capable, pretty healers... [She grumbles as she puts the book away. She hasn't forgotten the way Gai pointed out Grune in a bikini during the beach party. She was just as capable! Just... slower.]

I'm not concerned about him winning. If I was I'd be comforted by the idea of judges and referees watching closely, but once he's hurt there isn't much they can do except... blow a whistle or something.

Tell me, is there a reason why you are so opposed to him participating? Is it only for the reason of potential injury or do you have an aversion to violence in general?

[Elizabeth pauses for a moment, weighing the question before she answers it.]

Both of us haven't lived peaceful lives. Gai feels comfortable on a battlefield, and I would be lying if I said I had never been on one myself. I ran through a lot of violence to be free. I committed... a lot of violence to be free.

I'm not opposed to him participating, I know he wants to and I won't stand in the way because I'm afraid. That would be ridiculous.

And you are afraid because of what might happen to the person you care for.

Hm. I suppose our situations are not so dissimilar.

[Elizabeth blinks, looking surprised. She hadn't thought about why Wan Shi Tong would be at the tournament, aside from curiosity of course.] Who are you here to watch?

I am not here to watch anyone in particular. I am merely here to learn. I am a knowledge spirit after all. And since that which I love has been taken, I am reduced to spectating.

[Elizabeth does look startled by this news. She's been so worried about Gai, and trying to hide her own library books, that she missed the announcement regarding the theft. How did someone take the entire library?]

[But she does believe that Wan Shi Tong loves books, otherwise why would he have laid down such strict rules to protect them? She knows that if Gai had been taken from her, she would be devastated, so she can somewhat imagine how Wan Shi Tong feels now.]

[After hesitating for a moment, she takes the book out of her bag again and holds it out.] Have you read this before?

[Wan Shi Tong looks down at the book, considering it a moment.]

No. This one was not in the archives.

Well, maybe because it's not a nonfiction book. [She laughs a little and scoots over closer to the giant owl--almost like she's completely comfortable being around large birds--and starts flipping pages. Finally she gets to an engraving printed in the book and she shows it to him.]

It's a story about explorers journeying to-- well, the center of the Earth. Obviously. Nobody can travel to the center of the Earth of course, but it's always been one of my favorites even if it's not actually possible.

[He runs a hand through his hair and looks around at the arena.]

So, do we just start or somethin'? I've never done one a' these things before.

[Most of his fights are definitely not officiated or anything and come out of nowhere. ...Or out of Firo mouthing off to someone until they take a swing, so maybe not completely out of nowhere.]

[The only reason Raven put her name into this hat is because she can't ignore a competition. It's almost like a festival, a weapons festival, and the goal is to win without actually getting hurt.

Raven steps into the fighting ring, sword already in hand, but loose, casual. She clearly isn't in position to fight yet. She doesn't recognize her opponent apart from some visits to the smithy - where she rarely speaks to anyone, anyway - but Karla looks...fragile. Poised, and ready, but fragile. Maybe.]

[Karla catches the first glimpse of her first opponent, and...it's a girl? Karla didn't expect that. The girl looks young, kind of adorable, even.]

[But appearances can be deceiving, as Karla herself has proven countless times back home. For all she knew, this girl's skills could be as sharp as her own.]

[With that mental note in mind, Karla calmly draws her sword, bringing it down to her side. She plants her feet on the ground, her right foot forward. She looks relaxed, but she's ready to move.]

[Peggy lowers the clipboard now that she's finished writing and reads the sign language for a moment before she nods.]

What will you be doing as a volunteer? I should be able to find you to announce the results once we know.

[Peggy waits, watching and listening for the last shot. Even if she has protective earmuffs on, the sound of a gunshot is like a dull thud on her consciousness. When Rudy shoots again, she has her eyes glued to the target, watching for the hole to appear.

She raises her eyebrow at the shot, noting the number down.]

However, you seem to have tied with another competitor. When the others finish their scores, I'll contact you regarding a tie-breaker in case it is necessary.

[Wan Shi Tong bends his head down to get a better look at the book.]

Intriguing. Why is it that humans are so fascinated with stories that are not true? I would think real life would be far more interesting.

[Truth be told, this is a far less exciting setup than Gai typically chooses for his training. With the Battle Dome's technology level allowing for what it does, he's more likely to choose moving, simulated living targets than just a simple static one, but on the other hand, that just makes this competition that much easier in his eyes.

He takes a moment to study the target, sizing up the distance and the height. That accomplished, he loads the magazine into his Luger P08, then opens the toggle to chamber a round. That gun was like an extension of his body by now; all it takes is a single fluid motion to raise it, take aim, and then fire at the target.]
