Who: Everyone!
What: First Annual Luceti Tournament
When: May 2nd
Where: Battle Dome
Summary: Peony has made good on his promise to set up a tournament and today is the day for all the action.
Rating: PG-13 for the violence/fighting/possible language.

Finally the promised day has arrived! As competitors and audiences alike gather for the start, the whole outside area draws the eye to the grand carpet and banners with symbols for every event. There is also a table being restocked with free snacks and water bottles for those waiting around or still finding their way. Most notably, though, is a signboard with the times for all the events and competitors.

Whether you're competing or here for the entertainment, however, it's hoped you'll enjoy the events and fight or cheer hard! Now without further ado, make your own threads or comment around and let the games begin...

[Gai's gaze shifts from the target to Peggy as he nods to acknowledge the score. Not bad, but not as good a shot as he's capable of, either. He'll just have to make up for it with his other two shots.

Turning his attention back to the target, he takes aim, then fires again.]

[She raises her binoculars again and watches. The trigger is squeezed, the bullet ripping through the air - and then she notices the wind picking up.

It always comes at least once per round, she's noticed. She frowns as she notes the bullet piercing the target, likely far from what this participant wanted.]

3. Wind is coming from a south-easterly direction in gusts.

[Gai makes no effort to hide the scowl on his face at that score. Definitely not what he wanted, and he isn't pleased. This puts him out of the running for first place and he knows it. He wouldn't care quite as much if Elizabeth weren't watching, but as it is, he's annoyed.

Still, he's got one shot left, so he's going to make it count. This time he waits for the wind to die down before taking careful aim, then firing.]

[The final shot and she knows the young man at her side is upset at the earlier turn out. It's strange that so many people are shooting and seem dissatisfied with the results. Was it something to do with the way this place was programmed?

She watches and the final bullet pierces the target. After lowering the binoculars, she marks the score and turns to him.]

8. No shots remaining. We'll be posting your score on the tally boards later.

An interesting choice of weapon, Mr... [She looks at the clipboard and tries her best at pronouncing the foreign name.] Tsutsugami.

Gai.

[The correction is automatic by now. This wasn't a Funeral Parlor matter; he wasn't a leader here, so the formality just comes across as empty, and given that he's already in a bad mood, that's the last thing he wants right now.]

I got it as part of a business deal. I haven't found anything else that's been as accurate.

[Ironic to be saying that given his score.]

Normally, I would agree with you. It was highly prized during my era for that exact reason.

[She looks over the field.]

I think this field is deceptively simple in its design and plays on our perceptions as such.

Guess that's what happens when you get used to shooting at moving targets.

[It's a rather gruesome statement, but it's also true. He's used to using his gun in combat, not on a firing range. It's difficult to remember not to compensate for the movement of your target in a situation like this.]

Understandably. Especially when said targets shoot back.

[She quirks a small smile to him. It makes sense that he'd be a combatant with a gun like that, and coming fresh from a war, she can't fault him his youth.]

Now there's a competition I'd like to see.

[His own lips quirk up into a wry grin. He'd be right at home in a match like that, and probably much more on his A game if he had to be focused on the entirety of his surroundings like on an actual battlefield.]

Sadly, the only such ones we have with that are on the drafts or in our own personal simulations.

I've taken to the lesser used art of throwing axes to give myself a challenge.

Maybe I should try taking that up. Might as well use the downtime here to learn something new that might come in handy on a draft.

[He's 100% serious about this.]

You're welcome to. I practice at the barracks or behind my building in the mornings between 0700 and 0900.

[And she holds her hand out since she might as well introduce herself.]

Carter.

[Gai takes it and gives it a shake, nodding. No need to give his name, since she already knows it.]

Sounds like fun. Don't be surprised if I show up one of these days.

On the contrary, [She took his hand, shaking it in a friendly, but business-like manner.] I'll be expecting it. Flame Building, in case you're wondering.

I'll be there.

[Why not? The more things he can learn, the better.]

[She smiles and nods to him. How strange that she's gathering people here and there to join her in her training. She'd started it simply because guns were scarce.]

Let me know when you plan to come and I'll take out an extra set for you.

Good luck with the rest of the tournament, Gai.

[His smile widens a fraction more at that. Funny how he becomes that much more personable when talk about combat is involved.]

Thanks. Hopefully it'll go better than this did.

Don't be too discouraged. Not many people are satisfied with their results so far.

[His eyebrows lift slightly.]

Glad to hear I'm not the only one. I'd be worried if I was.

As I said, something about this course is strange.

Still, don't let this one section discourage you from the rest.

I don't plan on it, and I don't plan on doing that poorly in my other match either. At least that one won't be up to the whims of the fake wind here.

I should hope not. If wind can distract you from hand-to-hand, I might be worried.

I'd be even more worried. That might be a sign of the beginning of the apocalypse.

I do believe it would be.

[She inclines her head.]

I best let you get ready for your next match then.

[Gai gives her a nod of thanks in return.]
