What: First Annual Luceti Tournament

Where: Battle Dome
Summary: Peony has made good on his promise to set up a tournament and today is the day for all the action.
Rating: PG-13 for the violence/fighting/possible language.

Finally the promised day has arrived! As competitors and audiences alike gather for the start, the whole outside area draws the eye to the grand carpet and banners with symbols for every event. There is also a table being restocked with free snacks and water bottles for those waiting around or still finding their way. Most notably, though, is a signboard with the times for all the events and competitors.

Whether you're competing or here for the entertainment, however, it's hoped you'll enjoy the events and fight or cheer hard! Now without further ado, make your own threads or comment around and let the games begin...

[Masaomi vs. Firo] MMA round 1 (rematch)

[ooc: Pre-determined that Firo will win.]

[Despite his earlier loss, Firo's kind of enjoying himself with this thing. It's rare that he gets to spar with someone new, and this is a great opportunity to watch other styles. Back home, Mr. Yagu was always teaching him new things and he misses that.

The name next to his on the sign isn't one he recognizes and his curiosity has him pretty eager for this fight. Hands in his pockets, but nonetheless alert, he waits for his opponent to show up.]

Maaaah... I guess we're in the loser's bracket now, aren't ?

[ Has Masaomi seen this guy around before...? Maybe. He's not entirely sure. But he smiels all the same, brushing back some of his hair. The early loss to Cliff was a bit disheartening. But in that case, it was clear form the onset he was out matched. That guy clearly was no mere normal human. ]

[Firo laughs.]

Sounds pretty harsh when you put it like that.

[You win some, you lose some. Firo's looking on the bright side and being happy that he didn't lose a fight to the death.

The guy looks a little familiar, but so do plenty of people in Luceti. Just another reminder of how long he's been stuck in this place.]

Firo Prochainezo, by the way.

[The sign would have told the guy that, but Firo figures it's only polite to do a real introduction.]

[ Wow that's a fancy name. All the same though, he pulls into a bow and - ]

And my name's Masaomi Kida.

[Firo raises an eyebrow at that bow.]

Nice to meet you. You ready to go?

[They still have to wait for a signal, he thinks, but he's not sure what else to say to someone before trying to fight them. This doesn't seem like the place for trash talk.]

Yeah, yeah. I'm good. [ He sighs and... ] Honestly, I'm sore from the last hit of that match I had before, but I'm not going to shame someone to say to hold that against me.

That bad, huh?

[He didn't get the chance to pay too much attention to the fights besides his own, but he's seen some pretty tough looking people milling around the arena. It's not hard to believe that some blows are going to keep smarting--not that he'll admit he's still stinging from his own fight.

He glances over at the judges to see if they'll give the signal.]

Yeah. If you see a guy pushing 200cm, it'll be that guy.

[ and he glances too. Wait for it ]

And what's that in feet--?

[And then they get the signal. Ah, heck, Firo figures the guy's height isn't important anyway.

He takes a step back, keeping his weight light on his toes. Before he strikes, he wants to watch Masaomi for a moment to see how he holds himself. If he doesn't throw the first hit, though, Firo will dart in and try to kick out Masaomi's leg.]

[ Masaomi would have answered but oops. Either way, he does indeed try to strike first. His stance is very seemingly slapidash, but he's the veteran of several drafts and a lot of missions and a bunch of street fights back home. So maybe it'd be call unpredictable - he tries to go in for a punch first to see how he evades or cross-counters. ]

[The stance isn't something he recognizes, but Firo knows that doesn't mean he should write this guy off just yet.

Firo parries that punch. As he does, he steps slightly to the side and forward, attempting to elbow Masaomi.]

[Which Masaomi side-steps in the form of shifting slightly to one side. This guy's skilled but then . . . that isn't surprising. Most people here are as or more skilled than him it feels like. Still, with that blow evaded, he makes to try for a basic jab ]

[Firo smiles as he leans out of the way of that jab. This guy's quick, for sure, and it's fun to face off against someone who's faster than your typical street thug. It's also nice when he's not trying to kill you.

He reaches out to try and grab the wrist of Masaomi's jabbing hand; if that succeeds, he'll attempt to pull him off balance.]

[ This one's better than him, it's confirmed by that moment. Still, he knows he's strong and agile - his caught wrist he makes one tug to see if he can pull free, can't, and in the process is pulled a step forward. But he quickly changes tracks, to try to walk into the tug to keep his footing. The last thing he wants is to get tossed. ]

[Firo releases the hold when Masaomi moves into it. He's pleased to see that Masaomi knows how to react to a pull, but it renders the move basically useless for Firo.

He steps back and rebounds to throw a roundhouse kick at Masaomi.]

[ Too little time to react - he can't dodge, and he can only barely mount a guard. And that is going to leave a bruise and he knows it. Once it's done though, he leaps back a bit to gain distance to allow him to feel his arms more. Uugh ]

[Firo follows that up with another kick, this one just as hard. He doesn't know what it'll take to get this guy off balance, so why pull his punches? He also wants to see what kind of counterattack he might try.]

[ Another block, but he's had time to brace himself now. So he can swerve to one side, try to go in for a low leg sweep. Using his legs, that is, his arms are still a little numb ]

[Still drawing back his kick, Firo goes down with that sweep.

He rolls with it to avoid breaking any bones. If Masaomi moves quickly enough, he may be able to catch Firo before he rolls back to his feet.]

[ He tries to follow through - he does! Because that's the whole point of trying to overpower the guy. But the blow doesn't connect, because it's just a bit too inefficient with it. Which means, of course, he's now in a bit of an awkward spot ]

[Firo's Family would be ashamed of him if he didn't take advantage of that. He manages to spring to his feet and tries to throw an elbow at Masaomi's ribs.]

[ Which... connects! And actually breaks one of them, or at least it feels like he at least got one cracked by it. It instantly winds him, and makes him stumble back a bit. He tries to regain his composure, inhaling sharply ]

[Firo steps forward to follow up... then hesitates. If this were one of the fights he gets into back home, he would immediately move in to finish it, but this is different. There are probably rules in a fight like this and--more important to his reasoning--Firo has no grudge against this guy.

...Still, he wonders if he's making a mistake by leaving himself open.]

What now?

Now-- [ Inhale. Okay, okay. He's got his composure. He gets back up into a stance, briefly... And then he holds ups his arms for a surrender. ] Now, if you didn't hesitate there, I'd be out cold. I can keep going, but any judge with eyes knows I'm at a loss here.

[ And he grins, a little sheepishly. Because really, he wants to just keep going. He's a scrappy fighter, and he's always been - to go well beyond when he's lost. But this is a contest of skill, not attrition, and especially after the bruises he got from the big guy, he doesn't want to turn it into one. This guy was just more skilled ]

Didn't think it'd go over well if I hit a guy who's hurt in front of a bunch a' people...

[That, and he does have some decency.

He smiles and slips his hands into his pockets, relaxing.]

You did a pretty good job.
