Who: Everyone!
What: First Annual Luceti Tournament
When: May 2nd
Where: Battle Dome
Summary: Peony has made good on his promise to set up a tournament and today is the day for all the action.
Rating: PG-13 for the violence/fighting/possible language.

Finally the promised day has arrived! As competitors and audiences alike gather for the start, the whole outside area draws the eye to the grand carpet and banners with symbols for every event. There is also a table being restocked with free snacks and water bottles for those waiting around or still finding their way. Most notably, though, is a signboard with the times for all the events and competitors.

Whether you're competing or here for the entertainment, however, it's hoped you'll enjoy the events and fight or cheer hard! Now without further ado, make your own threads or comment around and let the games begin...

I'm not sure. I think you're usually supposed to wait for a signal from the judges.

[It would make sense in something that's supposed to follow set rules. Like Firo, most of Gai's fights are spontaneous and most assuredly not following any sort of rules, so when it comes to something like this, he's just as unversed as Firo is. Still, waiting for the judges to officially call the start of the match would be the most logical assumption, and he'd rather not make a mistake that could end up getting him disqualified.]

All right...

[Firo's eyes flick between the judges and Gai, trying not to let his impatience show. He's not a fan of all this waiting.

And a few moments later, the signal is given. Firo's immediately on alert, settling into a more stable stance than his resting one. He usually prefers to feel out an opponent before striking, so for the first few moments he'll hang back and wait for Gai to move. As he waits, he observes Gai carefully and considers the strategy he'll use if the other man doesn't want to strike first.

[Likewise, Gai's own stance shifts, though the change is subtle. Firo isn't the only one who likes to size up an opponent before making a move, so for a few long seconds, there will be nothing but silence as the two of them study each other...

When he finally moves, it's like a strike of lightning, swift and decisive. A sweep with his leg intent not on knocking Firo down, but on distracting him so Gai can follow it up with a open-palm strike aimed at Firo's side. Healers or not, he'd still prefer to avoid causing any sort of serious injury in this fight if at all possible.]

[The speed startles Firo--he's used to squaring off against thugs with more muscle than anything else--and a quiet curse slips out of him. Firo jumps back to avoid the sweep and just manages to block the strike with his elbow.

Firo makes a grab for Gai's wrist to try and pull him down into a kick.

[Gai will allow Firo to grab his wrist, but he's also going to be pulling right back, hoping that his larger size will be enough to unbalance Firo. He'll allow the kick to connect (with a wince) in part because he suspects that the other boy won't have been expecting that to happen; with any luck, that too will serve to throw him off guard.]

[Gai's estimation would be right; this early in the game, Firo doesn't expect to make contact just yet. It doesn't startle him like the counter-pull does, but he is a little ticked off at the thought of the guy letting him land a hit.

He grits his teeth and lets Gai pull him forward, trying to roll with the pull. If Gai doesn't switch directions on him, he'll let go and twist his wrist to attempt to break the hold.
