Who: OPEN to adults
What: A networking party on the beach
When: Saturday, 9/20
Where: The beach, around sunset
Summary: An open networking party on the beach. Enjoy the food and drinks, mingle as you wish. Details here
Rating: Let's keep it under PG-13

The setup for the party is pretty simple. Several coolers filled with ice for drinks (soda, bottled water, juice, assorted alcohol and mixers) with cups nearby, a food table with some cookies and cake from the bakery, two sandwich platters, some salads, fresh fruit, and a veggie platter. There's a grill going for roast vegetables, hamburgers, hot dogs, steaks, and fresh seafood, often run by Ginia but anyone else who wants to watch the grill or grill their own food is welcome to do so. People are also more than welcome to bring their own food and drinks. There's driftwood set up in a small firepit for once the sun goes down.

There are a few folding chairs and blankets spread out for anyone who wants to sit down as well as a card table or two.

Relax, meet new people, enjoy the food, and watch out for ghosts or shifts that might ruin your food.

((ooc: Handwaving the IC announcement of the party. Characters can still drop by even without checking in on the post (though that would be great for stats purposes). Feel free to say your character was there for set up and later take down, it's mostly handwaved unless people want to play things out.))

That I ain't. [Remy added with a laugh.] 'nd they didn't see much.

The boy got over it, a little paranoid for 'while, but didn't stop him still gettin' drunk in town 'gain the followin' week.

[Firo shakes his head, now almost laughing.]

People never learn, eh? He sounds like some friends I got back home.

[personal profile] cajunspice 2014-10-20 06:27 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, need them 'round, even if just for the laughs. [Remy said as he shuffle and dealt out the cards.]

[personal profile] foundafamily 2014-10-20 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, we do.

[A little while later, this hand finished, Firo sits back in his chair. Though defeated, he still grins; playing with someone good is pretty fun.]

Ah, you got me. Well, since we're talkin' about friends... I can tell you about the time a friend a' mine fought a bear.

["Fight" is a bit of a dramatization. Firo likes setting up his audience for something different than what they'll get.]

[personal profile] cajunspice 2014-10-25 09:21 am (UTC)(link)
[A bear, huh? But still best to check.]

We talkin' grizzly, black, panda, or teddy?
foundafamily: (3.2)

[personal profile] foundafamily 2014-10-25 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
[He laughs, wondering how Claire himself would have responded to that question.]

I couldn't tell ya, but definitely not "teddy". Accordin' to him, everybody in the circus was scared a' this thing--I'm not sure what they expected when they started messin' with a bear--but it was great for the shows. But not so great that the leader a' the circus didn't start thinkin' about makin' bear stew after a while.

So Claire and him made a bet: if Claire could control the thing, they'd keep it. Claire walks right up to the huge thing--and it just goes ahead and bites his arm as hard as it can.

[personal profile] cajunspice 2014-10-29 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
[Bear stew? Can't say Remy had tried it, but now intrigued him. He bet it would be tough, need a lot of cooking... And also off topic.

He offered a wince at the injury described.
] Less one arm I take it now. [Stupid boy.]

foundafamily: (1.1)

[personal profile] foundafamily 2014-10-29 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
[Food is never too off topic.

Firo lets that thought percolate, then grins.
]

Nah, he's still got both. 'Cause before the bear could really bite down on him, it let go. Actually, it looked like the bear'd been hurt.

[He'd let that little detail sit for a bit too, but he's to eager to get to the punchline.]

Claire isn't exactly a guy who always plays fair. So right before he went in the cage, he'd covered his arm in hot sauce--the spiciest stuff he could find.

[personal profile] cajunspice 2014-10-31 07:56 am (UTC)(link)
[Remy gave a look of unconvinced disbelief at the claim Firo's friend was still with an arm, until the punch line. Though the first part did make the Cajun wonder if the same would happen if a bear bit down on Wolverine. Metal bones and all, no doubt would break the beast's teeth before do serious damage to the healing mutant.

However the mention of the hot sauce made him throw his head back and laugh. What a stupid risk! Worked, and was damn funny, but to risk a limb with that kind of idea? That took some gutts to pull off.
] Ah merde, that boy of ya's don't sound like the brightest bulb, but do like his style.

[personal profile] foundafamily 2014-11-01 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
Funny, back when we were kids people used to say he was a genius. But, yeah, he's an idiot when it comes to takin' stupid risks.

[And talking to girls, though Firo can't really throw stones there.]
cajunspice: (cards)

[personal profile] cajunspice 2014-11-01 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, stupid risks be fine, 'long as ya survive to learn from them. [Remy chuckled as he dealt the next hand.]

Or someone be recordin' it as for evidence later.
foundafamily: (13.3)

[personal profile] foundafamily 2014-11-02 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
I dunno how much learnin' he does...

[Firo waits until the first cards are dealt to peek at his hole cards.]

Recordin'..?

[They're probably from radically different times.]
cajunspice: (:/)

[personal profile] cajunspice 2014-11-02 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oh, yeah, different times, different tech.] What era ya from... or are ya even from earth? [That might be a good first question, before getting the idea of times sorted. Just because he looked human didn't mean anything around here.]
foundafamily: (13.3)

[personal profile] foundafamily 2014-11-04 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
I'm from earth--it was 1933 when I got brought here, though. What about you?

[He's used to being a few decades or so behind the other earthlings here.]
cajunspice: (:))

[personal profile] cajunspice 2014-11-04 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
2003, when I left it.

[Assuming their earths were alike enough... the year would be right.] So ya got cinema, movies, right? From my time people can do their own movies, kinda like with the journals. Family events, holidays, friends gettin' themselves hurt, that kinda thing. That what I mean by recordin' it.
foundafamily: (Default)

[personal profile] foundafamily 2014-11-05 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
Damn. Are you kiddin' me? How do you drag around all that stuff?

[He's never seen recording equipment, but he imagines it must be huge.]
cajunspice: (>))

[personal profile] cajunspice 2014-11-05 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, well things have been scaled down quite a bit since it was first developed. Can fit it all into one hand nowadays. Hell, can fit a camera into something the size of pen or coin, 'long as ya got the power source somewhere else.

Find some of the more high tech stuff bein' hidden in glasses for video, or items the size of bugs, 'nd called bug, for sound.
foundafamily: (3.3)

[personal profile] foundafamily 2014-11-06 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
You're kiddin' me. That's amazin'!

[Those bugs are going to be a lot of trouble in the future, though.

He shakes his head.
]

I can't believe some a' the things you people've got in the future.
cajunspice: (:))

[personal profile] cajunspice 2014-11-07 11:23 am (UTC)(link)
Would even show ya what one of the hearin' devices look like, if I ever get my work gear to show up here. [One day maybe... after the lock pick set, but at least that he could make up substitute tools... bugs were a little harder to manufacture.]

Maybe if the item store be kind to me.
foundafamily: (13.3)

[personal profile] foundafamily 2014-11-10 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
How'd you wind up with somethin' like that? What kinda "work" needs that?

[And whoever invented something like that, Firo's pretty sure they wouldn't give them away for cheap.]
cajunspice: (>))

[personal profile] cajunspice 2014-11-10 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
[Ahh...] Security.

[Well, was there any point in lying here? Not like there weren't others already in Luceti who knew his line of work. Why hide it? After all, he used his skills in the missions given to him.] Or should I say 'm a thief. Big jobs, museums, military bases, mansions, that kinda thing.
foundafamily: (Default)

[personal profile] foundafamily 2014-11-10 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
[Honesty was a good move in this case. Firo's the kind of person who's much more comfortable around a thief than someone in security. Though he's sure he has nothing to fear from someone on the right side of the law in Luceti, he tenses a little and only relaxes when Remy says his real job.]

Seriously?

[He tilts his head to one side, thinking.]

So you use those things when you're casin' the place and stuff?
cajunspice: (cross-armed)

[personal profile] cajunspice 2014-11-10 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
Among other stuff, oui. Normally to see what others are up to. Guards, property owners, that kinda thing. Security systems gettin' more 'nd more complex so gotta keep up with how to work 'round them, be it finger prints, voice or retina scans, that sort a thing.

Though, wouldn't be a challenge otherwise, then what would be the point, hein?
foundafamily: (1.2)

[personal profile] foundafamily 2014-11-11 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
[Firo blinks; he knows what finger prints are, but he has no idea what either of those scans could do.]

I don't know--I don't see anything wrong with an easy mark.
cajunspice: (>))

[personal profile] cajunspice 2014-11-13 09:07 am (UTC)(link)
Well, will do it if a client requires it, but when ya been at it for so long the easy marks get... borin'. Need to look for newer 'nd better systems to take down, find weaknesses in new technology. Security systems always be updatin' to be bigger 'nd better, so the thief has to as well.

'nd how did ya get 'nother story out of me without winnin' a hand, hein? [The last part said in jest, with no real malice behind it.]
