Who: Open
What: A festival
When: Um...yesterday? ^^;
Where: Near the tea shop
Summary: Katara has set up a festival of sorts to keep the kids' minds off of their situation.
Rating: G-PG max. C'mon, it's for the kids!
Katara stood back to admire her work. The area in front of the tea shop was laden with warm, summery colors and had a few makeshift stages scattered about. Everything was ready to go as soon as people started arriving.

They were on their way to pick up games (that don't exist in Luceti but Mello didn't tell him that yet) and hopefully stop by the clothing store. He slowed when nearing the tea shop. It wasn't the colors and stages that attracted him but the firebird. Magic? Real magic? He started in that direction without saying anything to the person who held his hand.

"Go have a look around, and get that curiosity out of your system." It was only all too apparent that Matt was intrigued by the presence of the firebird. "I'll wait here." Yeah, this definitely wasn't Mello's scene, he'd resign himself to nonchalantly lingering off to the side.

Matt isn't interested in the kiddie stuff. If there was a storyteller simply reading from a book on a stage about baby animals or ABCs, he would've steered clear. Anything that looks like what you see in a video game? Sure, he'll look into that. More freedom. Naturally, he'll keep an eye out for an opening to sneak off.
[ooc: Open to thread-hopping from anyone :3]

Matt looked back toward the blond. Then he leaned forward to continue more quietly.
"Would you be able to cause a small distraction?" A doleful look was directed at her. He was far enough away that he could try to leave without one but hoped she was willing to do something, if only to play along with a child's fanciful games.

She raised an eyebrow at his request. She'd traveled with Aang long enough to know kids were capable of some impressive pranks "What for?"

He fumbled for a reason. "Ummm... I want to go to the shops and surprise someone." That wasn't a complete lie. They were heading in that direction, and the blond would be surprised if he sprinted off. Then again, maybe he wouldn't be. It was unoriginal, but he didn't have that much time to mull it over.

"What kind of distraction do you need?"

"Maybe you could... go talk to him?" He shifted his eyes in the blond's direction. Mello allowed him to join the festival without him, so the performances more than likely wouldn't impress him. "Or could you cause a... small accident?" With the second part, his attention went to the floating water.

Briefly, he glanced past Katara, eyes locking on Matt. If this was the little brat's attempt at causing a distraction, so be it. Mello'd play along for now, and crush the kid's hopes of making an escape, later.
"Sorry, but this festival isn't my idea of a good time."
Oh. And. That teashop of yours is cursed.
"So you can go ahead and run along, little girl."
You'll really have to excuse Mello for being blunt, Katara.

"Yeah? Tell it to someone who cares."
The beeline that Matt started to make toward the back of the stage didn't escape Mello's eyes, but he stayed rooted to his spot. What he had in mind could wait for another moment or two.
"Is mommy around? I'm sure she wouldn't mind comforting her little girl."
Ah, yes, that's a sneer. Mello isn't in a very good mood today.

He flashed a smile at Katara, and looked up just in time to see–

Mello hadn't expected Matt to take off as fast as he did. When he got ahold of the brat, he was definitely going to reinforce house arrest. No exceptions.
"See you later, little girl."
That said, Mello took off, summoning a bit of filial fire magic to propel himself forward, and give Katara a good startle as a good-bye present.

Mello's going to give that a try.
