What: A festival

Summary: Katara has set up a festival of sorts to keep the kids' minds off of their situation.
Rating: G-PG max. C'mon, it's for the kids!
Katara stood back to admire her work. The area in front of the tea shop was laden with warm, summery colors and had a few makeshift stages scattered about. Everything was ready to go as soon as people started arriving.

Nice try, but Katara had been in duels with firebenders where she had seen fireballs coming straight toward her. She wasn't expecting the fire magic, but it wasn't more than a mild surprise. But how surprised would Mello be to find a whip of water lashing at his ankle with the intent to wrap around it and prevent his motion? "I. Am. Not. A little girl."

And this would be Mello nearly falling over because of the restraint that just formed around his ankle. While Mello pushed forward, Katara pulled back, and that did absolute wonders for Mello's balance. Not surprisingly, though, he managed to recover, glaring daggers at Katara before turning his attention to the freshly materialized water whip. When fire met water, steam was created, right? Right. So a burst of flame colliding with the mass would dissolve it? Sure.

Mello's going to give that a try.

"Ah, you're right. I was mistaken. You're an idiot. By helping that kid get away, you've successfully put him in danger." The truth was always the best knife to cut with. "If he gets killed because of your stupidity, the blood is on your hands."

The water did cause the water to become steam, which Katara drew back into liquid form, now in a fighting stance as she expected him to attack, but his next line put her off-

Her stance faltered and her expression turned from anger to worry "There's someone tryng to kill him?"

Mello sighed, heavily; he didn't have the time for this.

"Not him, precisely, but there's a killer roaming the streets." One that Mello had tried to warn the public about, but failed. Not one person seemed to be interested in taking down the psychotic ex-mafia don, even if he had been responsible for previously attacking two citizens. "You picked a mighty fine time to throw a festival, huh?"

Eyes shifting back to the path that Matt took to run away, Mello allows a scowl to slip across his features. "That kid might be a target by association." The speculation was fueled by paranoia on Mello's part, but it was legitimate. "I have a bit of history with the murderer in question."

Mello turned his back, kicking the fire magic up again. Matt couldn't have gotten far.

Katara let him go. She was tempted to help him find the kid, but if Mello was right it wouldn't be a good idea to leave the area since she didn't know how many of the people who were helping could fight.
