What: Lute and Kamui want to know what's wrong with Duo and get their wedding rings.
When: Day after Duo was returned (8-30)
Where: House 33
Summary: Kamui's worried about Duo and wants to know why this happened, but he's too upset to go alone.
Rating: PG-13 for language?
Duo was returned home after being returned by the Malnosso. He's in much better shape than he was before being visited by Kamui, Misa, and Lacus. He still has a lot of explaining to do to Kamui and he knows it. He just couldn't stand the idea that Kamui would wear himself out, in Duo's mind to the possible point of death, trying to heal wounds that Duo would normally never even see a doctor about. After seaking support from Lute, Kamui agrees that seeing Duo would be the best way to figure out why he was pushed away.

Kamui squeezed Lute's hand gratefully and leaned back slightly against his lover. Then he smiled at his brother, reaching out to touch his cheek a bit. "I'm very glad to hear that and you do look all better now."

Then he nodded and led Lute into the house with him.

(ooc: I talked to Lute-mun and we mostly have persion to godmod him. I'll leave that up to you since you play Lute, but when it comes to things we need him for, I'll poke her.)

Duo looked a little embarrassed and rubbed the back of his head self-consciously before pulling it away and showing Kamui his lightly scarred hand. "Not all better, but at least they match. Think they'll fade after a while. If not, I can always tear off the scar tissue and get someone ta heal 'em again properly..." He trailed off like he realized he crossed into a subject he shouldn't.

He tried to cover himself by continuing to talk and changing the subject. "Well, guess I should give Lute that weddin' present! Hope ya don't blush too easily!" He started motioning for Lute to follow him into the kitchen while talking to Kamui. "Sit down a bit. We'll be right back. Promise I won't steal your fiance... for long~"

Kamui frowned a bit at the scars then looked away a little when Duo mentioned healing.

Then he turned a soft pink at the mention of the present. "Mn. Okay...." He sat down as instructed and waited for them to return.

(ooc: You can godmod Lute's reactions here since you'd know him better.)

Duo tugged Lute the rest of the way into the kitchen, turned so Kamui couldn't see Duo's face or hands, and started to explain to Lute how flexible the human tongue could be and how there's a couple spots that can tickle or feel so good on a guy. He hurried through it so he could be sure to get through the entire explanation.

"And ya use that on your weddin' night and make Kam happy," he said with a small flourish to show that he was done with his explanation. He said it loud enough Kamui could hear in the living room as well.

Lute blinked a bit, a hand raising to cover his own mouth as he turned a bright red at Duo's explanations. He'd never imagined that people did... these things with their tongue... Then he nodded and stammered that he understood and a quick thanks when Duo finally stopped talking.

Meanwhile, Kamui turned at equally bright shade of red as he heard Duo finish, suddenly regretting that he'd dragged Lute along with him here.

(ooc: Good job! I tried to bully Lute-mun, but she was busy with school work.)

Duo clapped Lute on the back before steering the silent priest back to the couch to sit bonelessly with his finace. "You guys are gunna have a great night! Guess I should get ya guys a couple weddin' rings. I um... don't have anythin' made that's worth givin' ya, but after... well I outta be able ta make ya somethin' really good now if ya still want me ta make the bands. I can even size 'em this way."

Kamui offered his husband-to-be an apologetic glance to which Lute smiled weakly and shook his head a bit to tell him it was alright.

"Mn. I'd like it if you made them for us if it's not too much trouble..."

"Not too much trouble for ya. I'll go get some extra metal I had lyin' around to keep practicing with." He walks out of the room and comes back with two rings in his hands. They're a little thick and almost tacky because they're so big. "Alright, give me your hands when I ask for 'em."

Duo settled on the floor, with a ring in each hand. "Anythin' ya wanna ask 'for I do this? Won't be talkin' much after."

Kamui tilted his head a bit as he looked at the rings then nodded. "Okay."

"Mn..." A faint blush crept onto his cheeks again. "Is it possible to.. inscribe our names on the inside of the rings?"

Duo chuckled and pulled a thicker pick from his hair. He set it down next to him while he asked, "How ya want 'em printed? Both names on each ring?" At least Duo's skill with lock picks makes his fine motor skills and therefore his handwritting nice.

"Mn." He intertwined his fingers with Lute's. "Both names on each. Lute's name can go first."

Duo chuckles before his face turns serious. In his head, he asks Sizzle for as much help as she can give him. The poor spirit is tired from their time with the Malnosso, but she wants to help the couple... and it's a challenge.

Duo's hands heat until the rings inside them melt. Then they get hotter and hotter until the impurities burn away, leaving almost pure silver and pure gold in each hand.

This is the part Duo hates, but it worked so well before, he's not sure what else he can do. He pulls the heat from his hands, letting the metal in one hand cool all the way while leaving the other warm enough it's still soft. The heat coils in Duo's chest, setting in to burn his lungs again.

The little lump of gold thumps to the floor as Duo lets it go and starts working the soft silver into a long thread of thick silver. A clearly practiced flick of his wrist and the thread coils around his arm where it stays put and soft.

The gold lump is picked up again and Duo pushes most of the heat out of his chest and back into his hand and the metal. A thread of gold is made, equal in thickness to the silver. Rather than flick this one around his arm, he pulls the silver free and throws them together so they stick. A few turns of his wrists and he has a twisted thread of silver and gold.

He presses his fingers midway down the thread and melts it into two smaller threads. Then he holds his hands out for Kamui and Lute's hands.

Kamui watched all that in slight awe then both he and Lute hold out their hands as requested.

"...but isn't that hot? I mean, you might not be affected by the heat but..."

Duo couldn't reply to Kamui's concern, not with heat still swirling in his chest. He mouths the words, "Trust me," for all the good it'll probably do before bringing the twisted metal up to their hands. He manipulated each around their ring fingers while keeping the heat in the metal and away from their skin. It was hard controlling it that way, but he'd practiced it before with the ball of flame.

He marks where the rings should join, melts off the bottom parts which he squishes together and takes the heat from before dropping them to the floor. The un finshied rings were pulled from their fingers so Duo could run his own in them and flatten out the inside into a smooth surface that would touch their skin. He slid them on again to check before sealing the rings closed at the ends. He made sure the gold and silver lined up so the seam was almost invisible.

The pick made a perfect tool to scratch the couple's names in scrolling letters that seemed to flow into each other. Each ring was marked inside like that before the pick was set to the side. Then held a ring in each hand again and let them burn, litterally so the flame would burn off any shavings, help smooth and shine the metal, and dissipate the heat.

Duo sat for a moment, just holding the rings before offering them to their respected fiance. He was strangely quiet and his hands shook just a little as things caught up to him. It took a lot of energy to control heat like that and it left Duo tired and burned all over again. At least this time can't even compare to the damage he had when he returned.

He watches all that with wide eyes, fascinated, then turns his finished ring over in his hand carefully, smiling softly to himself. Yet, the moment he looked back at Duo, his brows creased in extreme worry.

"..Duo.." He goes over to him. "Are you alright?"

Duo smiles fondly at Kamui and shrugs. He works his tongue around his mouth and swallows a couple times. He's not sure if he's going to be able to talk, but the burn doesn't feel as bad as before.

His hands stay in his lap so they can't shake anymore as he tries to speak. "Hope ya like 'em." It's not a bad attempt, but his voice is a little hoarse because he can't breathe that well.

He automatically reaches to place his hands lightly above Duo's throat, wanting to heal him then he catches himself and quickly takes his hands away not wanting to anger Duo. Instead he places a hand lightly on Duo's head.

"Mn. They're very beautiful. Thank you, Duo."

The way Kamui practically flinches away him makes Duo cringe inside as well. He doesn't want Kamui worried about upsetting him or anything else. His mind runs, juding the risks and benefits. Kamui wears himself out when he heals, trying to do too much. Before, Duo was injured so badly, Kamui could have poured enough energy into Duo to kill seriously injure himself or even die. That'd hurt Kamui because he didn't understand. Now, Duo's only injured a little, the burn not even enough to take away his ability to speak. Misa was able to heal his lungs last time without dropping so if that's all Kamui does, he should be fine as well.

Coming to a choice he likes, Duo takes Kamui's hand in his own and pulls it down to touch his chest above his lungs. "This time, don't wear yourself out." He doesn't add that he won't ask Kamui to heal him again if his brother does heal until he passes out.

He looked at Duo, confused when his brother takes his hand and places it lightly on his chest. "..Duo? But... Huh?"

He gazes into Duo's eyes for a moment then a grateful smile slowly spread across his face. He's still not certain why Duo turned away from him last time... but it was clear that whatever it was that he'd done wrong, Duo has forgiven him and a huge burden was thus lifted from his heart. "Duo... Mn." He nodded. "I won't." Then he started the healing.

Duo shivers at the feeling, but he sits there quietly as Kamui's healing him. His eyes are glued to his brother, trying to judge his condition so he can' t wear himself out. He'll explain things to Kamui after he's healed. He wants Kamui to know that he wasn't rejecting Kamui, but trying to protect him instead.

It is an easy healing that doesn’t really take much out of Kamui and Kamui smiles happily as he takes his hands away. He’s glad that everything is alright between him and his brother, that he now has the wedding rings... and that Duo has given whatever it was that he wanted to give Lute to give him.

Duo reaches out to take Kamui's hand before he can get too far. It's a moment before he speaks as he checks his healed lungs. "Before, ya know at Azzip where I wouldn't let ya heal me, ya woulda killed yourself or at least worn yourself ta nothin'. I couldn't let ya do that. Ya wouldn't stop and I couldn't let that happen just ta heal me. Sorry I hurt ya, but I couldn't let ya do that."

He blinks in surprise when Duo takes his hand, then he looks away a little after Duo's explanation. "...I wouldn't have killed myself... I would have stopped before it got that serious."

Duo snorts, not believing a word. "Ya never knew when ta stop before. I know how much ya care, Kam, and ya woulda wanted ta finish. That woulda dropped ya if not killed ya. I wasn't gunna let ya do that."

He pulls his hand back. "I know when to stop. I do... I wouldn't have killed myself."

Duo let him take the hand and let his return to his lap. He takes a deep breath, grateful that he can since it's calming. "When have ya stopped before? Every time ya healed me, ya went 'til ya passed out. Ya healed me before ya reached the point where ya couldn't even pass out on the bed."

"I know how to stop now...."

Duo shakes his head and looks away. "Sorry, nii-kun, but ya said that before. I'd rather heal myself the slow way than risk somethin' happenin' to ya 'cause of it."

"...you won't let me heal you anymore then?"

Duo jerks and looks back at him, a little shocked that that's what Kamui's worried about. "No! I just won't let ya if I think there's too much ta heal. Hell, I just let ya heal my lungs."

"...so I can still heal you if it's not very serious?"

"Naw, depends on how much damage. A nick in my throat shouldn't be too hard ta heal, but if it hits the vein, it's pretty damn serious. Ya know what I mean, right Kam?" Duo doesn't want something to happen to Kmaui, but he also doesn't want to lose the relationship they have.

He thinks about it for a while then nods slowly. He was worried that he would have to watch when Duo is injured and not be allowed to do anything. "Okay."

Duo smiles at him and lifts a slightly shaky hand to brush the back of his knuckles across Kamui's cheek before dropping it back into his lap. "Good, don't want ya upset and don't want ya hurt, nii-kun."

He leans a bit against touch. "Don't get too injured again."

Duo can't help laughing at the idea. "So ya want me ta tell the Mally that I can't go with 'em next time 'cause my nii-kun said no? Don't think that'll work, but I could try it."

He doesn't really appreciate being laughed at. "I meant in general."

He tries to look meek, but that doesn't really work. "I'll try not to. Don't really like gettin' hurt. Umm... could ya help me up and inta bed? I could use some rest."

"Ah, of course." He puts an arm under Duo's shoulder and helps lift him up then guides him back to his room.

Duo's tired, but at least he's steady on his feet. Working heat like that, pulling metal, needed all the energy and magic Sizzle had come up with since he got back. Either way, it was worth the energy to see Kamui and Lute happy with their wedding rings.

"Glad ya guys like the rings. Thought you'd want somethin' simple, but somethin' that shows how ya guys are joined."

Kamui helps him into bed then tucks him in with a little kiss on his cheek. "We like them very much. I can't thank you enough for them, Duo." He brushes the hair back from Duo's forehead and plants soft kiss on it. "Rest now."

He chuckles under the tender attention, a nurse in a habit flashing across his mind for a moment, making Duo smile more and reach up to caress his cross. "Seein' ya happy's enough thanks."

He yawns widely and snuggles into his pillow with a soft smile. He mumbles something about thanking his brother before letting out a deep sigh.

He smiles softly at all that. "Good night, Duo." Then he moves towards the door where his fiance is waiting for him quietly with a gentle smile. He entwines his fingers with Lute's and together they make their way out of the house, careful not to wake Duo.
