Hey, Toph. How are you?

[metalbends]

Hey, Twinkletoes. [She pushes out a fist with a big fat thumbs down.]

You know. I'm not really digging this whole outer space thing. I miss dirt.

[savedtheworld]

[He frowns.]

I'm sorry. They shouldn't have brought you. But... maybe the moon dirt will be better?

[metalbends]

[He gets a faint smile from her at that.]

Well, I do like the space rock Sokka gave me...so as long as it's stuff like that, we should be good.

[He gives a faint grin back.]

Good. I hope we can manage, and that we did enough of that weird simulation training. It'll be weird enough for me not to be able to Airbend or Firebend. [And scary. Airbending was almost literally like breathing to him.]

[metalbends]

Yeah, I bet. [She remembers her last draft, out at sea, with no earth around. Metal, sure, but she can still sympathize.]

Hey, if you can't bend two of the elements, do you think that means you can't go into the Avatar State?

[Because that could be bad.]

[He blinks. Amongst all the worries swimming through his mind, the possibility of entering the Avatar State had gotten crowded out.]

I... That could still be possible. I was able to go into the Avatar State before I knew all the elements, anyway.

[He'll still technically have the ability to bend anyway, it just won't have any external effect.]

[metalbends]

Good point. [She'll just...hope they don't have to cross that bridge.]

Maybe we won't have to do much fighting anyway.

Yeah! Who knows? Maybe those enemies won't even show up! Or they'll get bad directions and go to the wrong moon!

I bet they're big enough morons to do that!

[Her grins fades a bit.] But still. It's good we're prepared, either way.

[And his matches slightly, as he sits on the edge of the bed.]

Yeah. The simulations were really helpful. I just wish we had more time to get a better feel for moonbending.

[metalbends]

Yeah. [He can imagine that's true for Aang and Katara in particular. Even if it's in space, this is still her element.] Are you gonna pick up one of those scanny thingies?

[He squirms on the inside just thinking of the alternative.]

Of course. That's... that's the best way to stop them, right?

[metalbends]

That's what I've heard. [They didn't have them on the draft at sea, unfortunately.] That way you don't have to, you know...

[Kill.]

[He cuts her off bluntly.]

I know! [Pause, then softer.] Sorry.

[metalbends]

We're in the same boat here, so as long as the four of us stick together, we'll be fine, alright?

[He takes a second to grip her shoulder.]

You're right, Toph. We've all made it through so much together. This is... this is going to be another one of those times. [But already very, very different.]

[metalbends]

I'm sure it'll be a piece of cake compared to the Fire Lord. Still, don't let your guard down. Those guys are nasty.

I won't, Toph. I'm going to treat them differently than any other enemies. [Just... not to that extent.]

[metalbends]

Maybe you'll have a chance to practice your metalbending down there, too.
