I'm over the moon

Who: All draftees
What: Arriving on The Liberator and preparing for battle
When: Today, from 9AM to 3PM
Where: SPAAAACE
Summary: The draftees are in space! On a ship! IN SPACE! SPACE!
Rating: SPACE

SPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACE!!

But no really. The draftees are in space. The mod post about it is here, so familiarize yourself with the details. This log is for general interactions, where you can tag around as your characters familiarize themselves with the ship, look out the windows, try on their space suits, and run simulations for the Tyr-Fighters. (Among other things.)

Specialist Davis can be encountered and will have a thread available on the log to talk to him on.

Specialist Davis

[Some of the people from missions might recognize this man. He's captaining the ship. However at 1PM, he's in the ship galley eating. The room itself is filled with other draftees from other enclosures and many of the soldiers under his command, as well as other technicians and staff.

Davis himself sits alone, with a meal consisting of the blandest meal you've ever seen (despite the cooks offering some pretty good stuff), along with black coffee. He isn't the most sociable, but there's nothing stopping people from approaching him.]

[He's in space. HE'S IN SPACE he doesn't even care that he's on a draft, this is the best day of Emil's life and he's going to be spending a good half hour just plastered to the windows staring out at the scenery outside because THIS IS THE COOLEST THING EVER.

Oh, and at some point he'll probably go try on his space suit, but that can wait until later. SPAAAAAAACE. If only he could tell Bones about this...]

[Space. It was blacker and colder than Viral realized, and entirely uncomfortable for a beastman who was acclimated to hot, arid conditions. Early on he dons his space suit, for efficiency's sake, but keeps his travel-worn red scarf with him. He remains quiet and distant, but will make it a point to check in with faces that he recognizes. Especially the non-combatants that he knows, if only to offer them protection should they need it.

Draftees familiar with him will notice that his thick, unruly blond hair is tied back into a tail with a length of string--a gift from Sabriel on the mission, and the easiest means to keeping it under control while wearing the helmet.]

[Grune...is confused on a lot of the details of this draft. Presumably, someone was able to at least give her something of a sense of where they were going and the importance of wearing her spacesuit at all times, but aside from that, this is all a brand-new experience for her (that she remembers) and thus completely captivating.

She hasn't brought much with her--only her urn, which she's filled with as many gels as she can find, and a change of clothing--so everyone sharing her quarters will find her a pretty contained roommate.

She isn't the sort to spend a lot of time preparing, so once she's all settled, she'll be off exploring in that skin-tight spacesuit of hers (oh my). She's likely to drop by and visit people in the other quarters, and she's also likely to forget about that important little detail known as knocking. Oops.

Everyone will find her completely relaxed and as cheerful as always, for the most part. She might have her slightly more serious moments as she thinks about doing her best to protect everyone, but never fear--those will pass the moment she gets distracted. Isn't it nice to be Grune?]

[Sokka had been on a mission for awhile now, after losing Suki to the randomness of returning home. When he arrived on the mission, the torrential rain nearly made him sick. He didn't know it, but he'd been ten miles northwest of where the hotel had been flooded. Though he was thrust into a skirmish with a group of cultists, he was not part of the massive battle going on with the Security Forces and the cultists to to the east. When the battle had finally died down, they were left hunting cultists down.

On the fourth day, while tracking down a small group of cultists, they were ambushed. Though they fought them off and were victorious, Sokka took the worst of it when he pushed one of his teammates out of the way of a pouncing Shift Hunter. It took a bite out of his side before his team mates beheaded the creature, forcefully prying its jaw from his side. He didn't want to admit it, but it was his closest brush with death he'd ever experienced.

Miles away from a spot to rendezvous with the Malnosso, he was given patchwork bandaging and they took it slow for his sake. Though their first aid was not lacking and he was given ample painkillers, there was no magical healers among the group. Just a military nurse who redressed his wound every evening. When they finally reached a point where he could be returned, he was transferred to a medical ward and told he would be there until an upcoming draft. By now, he'd read over the draft details a dozen times while waiting in that bed.

And now he was on the ship. His side may have healed up a bit thanks to the stitchwork, it couldn't take much action without tearing up. Which is why he was looking for someone, anyone to patch him up. Make it so he could fight. And selfishly, he was hoping to find someone other than his sister. He didn't want her to see him like this. In fact, it would be better if it was someone he didn't know. (This part reserved for Yellow)

After being healed, Sokka felt more like himself. Which meant he needed to find his friends. In a big ship like this, it was easy to get lost and he found himself wandering around quite a bit before making it to crew quarters. Later on, he can be seen in the galley eating a meal while feeling very awkward in his dark blue space suit. He's. Not thrilled about it.

He spends about an hour in the simulators before deciding that increasing his survival rate to 'thirty minutes' is not nearly safe enough for his liking. So he spends some times checking out the armory of weapons before settling on a laser pistol, to take with him on top of his usual arsenal of his sword and some explosive projectiles. He knows all too well Boomerang won't work in space, so that's getting left behind in his room.]

[Logan tried the simulators, here and back in Luceti. And now he's in the hangar bay, checking out the Tyr-Fighters up close. Sure, they're identical to the ones in the simulation, but it's something else to check them out first hand. They're really something else. Admirable, even.

Besides being back in his bunk in the crew quarters, later he can be found in his galley, where he's wearing his X-Men uniform on top of a black space suit. Amazing how the X-Men uniform feels loose like this. The skin tight space suits are really something else. For his part, he's staring out into space, drinking some coffee. It's not a very interesting sight. He can't see the planet and he can't see the moon. Just a single bright light from a distant planet. There are no stars.

Why are there no stars?]

[Ling has no interest in trying to fly the space ships. He threw on his golden space suit and doesn't feel self conscious at all to be in it. In fact, since he has time to kill, he's going to eat the galley out of house and home. He's piling up his tray with food so he can eat. Delicious.

Later he needs to go hunt down Greed and Ed. See which one will be his bunkmate.]

[Mars is sitting off by herself most of the time. She's been in space before, and she's probably not as excited as the rest of the draftees about it. She's pointedly not wearing the suit provided, it being unnecessary thanks to her innate magic, but does have a small headset on hand. More importantly, she's still quite lost in thought about her recent bout of fortune telling, the encounter with Harry Dresden, and the implications of being on a draft with Mercury and Moon. Its not that she's not nervous, but more that she's not really focused right now.

She'd probably like someone to listen to, even if she won't be the most talkative person right now.]

[The very first thing Haruhi does when she arrives on the ship... is throw up. CJ had warned her that direct shifting her from the ship she was on in the barrier to this one would be hard, but she did not expect it to feel like her stomach did a flip, so she gets to her knees and vomits right on the floor when she first gets on board.

...Probably to the frustration of whoever needs to clean that. Oh well. Not her problem. She gets up, and wearing these nifty space suits heads out to claim an empty room (which means any three people can be her roomies? First come first serve? idek) and check out her supplies. Put some clothes on over her suit so she looks less silly.

And then she's off to both explore the ship and find everyone who she ought to find for this draft. Top on the list is Kyon, Rhyme, Minato, and Shiki, but there's others she really wouldn't mind seeing. She doesn't yet know what she's going to do. The scale here is too much for her to be a practical force to help anything cooking or what not, and she'll likely figure out what she's going to do once they make moonfall]

[Scorpius isn't actually wearing the space suit the Malnosso supplied. His own suit is more than efficient enough to use it, so he just cannibalized the helmet system that the supplied suit had and spent the first few hours with tools modifying both it and the pulse rifle they supplied to practical specifications. Not that he totally gets how the helmet works and for the most part he was just attaching it firmly to his own suit.

Anyway. After that he'll be inspecting the turrets and the tyr-wings. Comparing them to the specs they got and also seeing if he can't think of ways he might improve them, even if he might not necessarily be allowed to make mechanical tweaks to Malnosso property.

Aaaand once that's done, chatting up the draftees from his Dome wouldn't be efficient. He's going to be chatting up ones from other Domes and MSF soldiers as best he can, getting a feel for their moods and egos and who can be used for what. Of course if anyone from our Dome wants hit him up while he's NPC hunting, go for it]

This is Major David Jordan. I am an experienced pilot and some of you have already served with me on our various drafts.

To anyone in our fighting team that require training on the use of the Tyr-Fighters, if you don't wish to receive instruction from the Malnosso security squad, I'll be willing to act as a flight instructor in the short time we have before we meet the enemy. I've already received the training and have some simulator experience.

Operation of the Tyr-Fighter is surprisingly simple. Anyone with interest in learning can probably handle it. Contact me on this line or meet me at the simulators and I will conduct lessons in thirty minutes.

Yellow 13, out.

[Action]

[True to his word, Thirteen's waiting in the simulator room, and occasionally taking sortie himself. He's actually adapted to the tech very well and is performing very well.]

[Probably like many of the other draftees, Billy will be spending the majority of the time staring out the windows, watching space fly by. He's not as thrilled about it as he rightfully ought to be- he's being forced to fight in a war again, after all. At the same time, though, there's no chance in hell he's going to just sit and sulk about it. So for a while he'll sit and stare instead. Some meditating might happen too; if he's going to be using his powers in yet another intense battle after so long of almost zero combat, he'll need all the focus he can muster.

And then he'll spend some time in the space suit, adjusting to the feel of it and working through some exercises to get used to moving in it. It's not that differed from his costume, really, and with a bit of modification, it almost looks normal- and feels normal, once he's gotten the cape on. The headband might be tricky to wear under the helmet, but he'll figure that out later.

He tries the ship simulators a few times, but that... doesn't end well. (Actually, it mostly ends in horrible crashes and simulated death. Teddy would've been so much better at this part.) So at least he knows what his role is going to be in the next battle.]

[Okay, so being in space is kind of a new thing for Gai, but the mission preparations are something he's all too familiar with. Unlike the last time, however, the Malnosso have actually been kind enough to give him the arsenal he asked for, which means that he can be found in the galley with a cup of coffee, calmly checking over the machine gun he's been given.

... that may also be a rocket launcher sitting on the bench beside him too. Let it never be said that Gai Tsutsugami comes unprepared.

Later on, he'll be testing out the simulators, though he'll finally come to the conclusion that he isn't experienced enough with them yet to risk it in actual combat.]

[Space is not necessarily a place Crys wanted to explore, much less fight in. And since this is her very first draft, you can imagine she's pretty nervous. Putting on her light blue space suit and just trying to calm herself down. She'll often go to adjust it around her arms or legs, often gazing out her window and getting lost in thought. Her door is wide open and she still hasn't quite noticed it's still open; more important things are on her mind.]

[Later on, she can be found in the galley, getting food for herself and her Pokemon. Crys is just sort of picking at her food for the time being, a serious yet distant look on her face.]

[It's so dark.

That's all Mia can think, staring out the window in the middle of a blackness that she doesn't associate with the night sky. Where are they? Is this really the same place you see from the ground, when you walk home after a long or a peaceful night?

Or could it be-

Someone jostles her from behind and she loses the thought in her apology. She should really find a room, and get used to that infernally strange space clothing. It's going to be hard to work in that.

...And she ought to eat something. Enough people are headed that way, and the strange nausea from appearing here has finally worn off.]

[For about two hours Raven stayed in the room she'd chosen being angry at this invasion of her newly strange life.

Then she found out she'd have to have roommates.

That's why she's in the cafeteria now, staring at food she doesn't want to eat, drumming the tines of her fork on the table and generally being an irritated birdperson. Who keeps refusing to wear her space suit, it's way too constricting.

She doesn't even think she knows anybody up here. All she can picture is the awkwardly fussy freaking out that Ondorus was doing that morning when she left.]

The SEEDs ship may not be out there, but he can still clearly see it in his memory seconds before it...]

[This is bizarre. To Canti, staring out the windows of the ship gives an image that is both familiar and unfamiliar at the same time. The ultimate deja vu. He knew about space in theory, but something about him hummed with nostalgia for the inky blackness of deep space.

Except there were no stars. Where were they? Was the planet isolated enough that even the nearest stars beyond its own sun weren't visible? How odd. But there wasn't time to worry about that now.

Canti has already been barred from leaving the ship while it flies(who knew every airlock would be guarded?), but he can still get a good view of space from on the ship. He settles himself in a cafeteria seat by the window, where the view is good, to watch and wait. Feel free to interrupt, of course.]

[Most people will find Soren before they find Chien, and that's only because they're making it their mission to check out the whole place from end to end because neither of them have ever seen something so amazing. The bird's flying ahead of him, dodging through most of the crowd and landing here or there on people and things to look back at his trainer and trill. Sorry if that's your ear, buddy!

However, like some others, a good deal of time will be spent by both of them simply looking out the window. Not just in one spot, but every so often they will stop and just be kind of amazed at it. Both of them will be travelling in their space suits to get used to it, even if Chien doesn't like it too much.]

... I wonder how hard it'd be to fight out there. I mean, it's all a bunch of nothing, right? [A chirp. They'll kick ass anyway.] We'll get stronger here than the others will at home.

[Albert remains seated in his quarters throughout the beginning of the flight. Despite the warnings issued before takeoff, there is nothing that compares in his experiences to leaving the planet's atmosphere and entering the vacuum of space.

Once he is properly suited and somewhat oriented to the new environment, he begins traveling around the ship. There are other draftees taking in the strange spacecraft and going over the details they had been given, some apprehensive and others uncomfortable with their destination and objective known.

He tries looking out the viewing windows, but finds himself unable to remain there staring at the void for too long; it reminds him of things best not remembered. Instead, he will be among those absorbing the details of their mission and listening to whatever the Security Forces may divulge.]

[Space.

Normally Gold's not totally fond of the drafts. He goes out and kicks ass on them, sure, but they're hardly his favorite thing in the world. ...You know, except for that draft where he went to the farmlands. That one was cool.

But... Space. Gold was totally okay with going to space. Sure, it sounded like it was gonna be a hell of a battle, and they had no idea what to really expect out there, but spaaaaaaaaaaaaace. Spacespacespacespacespace.

Gold doesn't waste much time going to his room, suiting up in his gold-colored spacesuit and checking his supplies, making sure to grab some hold items for Explotaro, Aitaro, and Sneasel (borrowed from Silver), and healing items as well. After getting all the necessary supplies, he can be caught in his room getting the three Pokémon suited up. Ever seen a Pokémon in a space suit? Well, you will today.

Jeez, these things sure like to ride up...

[Guess who's just put on her new space suit! Norma's in her room, pinching at the material of her suit and scowling at it. Honestly, this was such a pain in the rear end. As if working for the Malnosso on one of their idiotic missions wasn't enough, now she's in space of all places and risking her neck. Ugh...what a damn headache. t least she has Grune with her again this time - that's something to look forward to.

And, she has to admit, the view from the windows (even the little porthole ones) is really amazing, unlike anything Norma could have imagined. It was breathtaking, seeing so many stars and stuff so close, at every possible angle. Wish there was more time to, y'know, appreciate it, though...given the inkling thought of being sent off to war hanging over Norma's head. And that there are freaking kids being drafted this time around as well! One she knows personally no less. UGH.]

[Despite all her complaint and tantrums about coming here - why should I help them after what they did?! - Perona finds herself wandering around the ship in search of a purely vacant room. She wants one for herself, a private one, where she can sulk and whine all she wants until come battle time. That, and to lock away her body while her spirit can look around every nook and cranny unhindered. Escape routes, hiding places, good ambush spots...things she should know and detail in her mind.

It's not exactly easy though, given the limited space, and she walks on for quite some time before finding a room at last that she can change into her space suit at last. Bleeegh, it was hideous!]
