I find myself becoming less enthused with metalbending. Maybe I need to make a sword with different material.

No. The current methods we use for purifying metals are pretty limited back in our world. Most metal has impurities in them. My space sword probably even has some.

But more advanced techniques can get rid of those completely. I have a hunch that you wouldn't be able to bend metal without them.
