But no really. The draftees are in space. The mod post about it is here, so familiarize yourself with the details. "And as such, I didn't realize you were even gonna be here until I saw you walk in. Even then? It wouldn't be the last time they pull last minute reserves out of those left behind. It's happened before."

"I'm not blaming you. Just...realizing I need to be less paranoid." Even though his inner Illyan is screaming at him for even thinking that. He sighs again.

[herotypical]

Buffy sat back -- vaguely amused.

"That's right. VIP. Security forces. A few pieces are falling into place. Trust me, I couldn't even tell you what your full name is. The roster was pretty long. Unless you don't even have a full name. Some people -- they only have one."

[vor]

So she gets it. He relaxes, then smiles just slightly. "I have quite a few."

[herotypical]

"Names? Or aliases?"

[vor]

"Names." That's a little embarrassing. No one ever uses most of them, of course. Still, it's a consequence of being born an Imperial heir to have a billion middle names.

[herotypical]

"How many?"

[vor]

"It's not really important."

[herotypical]

"That's why this is called chit-chat. Not...important chat."

"...Six. If you include first and last."

"I mean, seriously?"

She gestured at him with a hunk of bread roll.

"Huh. Roll call must've really been a bummer."

[vor]

"They didn't use all of them."

[herotypical]

"Oh. Right. So just three or four, huh?"

She laughed. His many many named tickled her pink.

[vor]

Her laugh makes him laugh, which is a very quiet act, all things considered. "Just two."

[herotypical]

"So? My clever deducing skills tells me that Gregor must be one of them. Come on. Spill the other."

[vor]

This goes against the grain.

"Vorbarra."

And...that felt pretty good, actually. A step away from paranoia.

i hate math.

[herotypical]

"Vorbarra," she repeated. Her tongue was clumsy over the Rs. The As. It sounded positively strange in her voice. But she didn't seem dismayed by that strangeness. "I'll remember that. Two down? four to go. Maybe if we both survive this thing, I'll earn another."

Six minus two? Really?

"I thought we'd survive it no matter what. If the revivification works up here, off-planet." His eyes stray to the horrifically disturbing sight of starless space through a window. He wonders if Cordelia would have an explanation for the phenomenon. That would make him feel better.

it's not that i did the math wrong! just that i...forgot to do it at all.

[herotypical]

"Just a little gallows humour. That's all."

Her eyes followed his. Having never been in space, she has no way to know that it's wrong. Just that it's unlike any sci-fi show she's ever pretended not to see.

[vor]

He speaks distantly.

"Maybe we really did take a wormhole jump to hell."

[herotypical]

"Hey. We're not even fighting yet. This is the peaceful part."

Too peaceful, by times. She plucked at her suit's collar. What she wouldn't give for her own clothing. "Ever been in a battle, Greg?"

A beat.

"I mean -- Gregor?"

[vor]

He's actually more startled by the second name than the first one.

"Just...the mission I went on. And I was mostly taking care of the refugees." He hesitates. "You don't count assassination attempts, do you?"

[herotypical]

Assassination attempts. Gee golly whiz.

"N-no. Not really. They're more like...altercations. Battles are definitely different."
