Beach Party!?

Who: Anyone who wants to come!
What: BEACH PARTY! (For Katara or something)
When: In the evening, about 7PM
Where: On the beach! Somewhere!
Summary: It's Katara's 17th and while all friends of Team Avatar are invited, anyone else can gatecrash too.
Rating: E for everyone (for God's sake there's going to be seven year olds!)

[A few days before the birthday, Katara's housemates began birthday preparations. Not quite entirely secret, but they made invitations, told friends, spread the word, and so on. Birthday on the beach. Be there or be a loser McButtface without friends.

And so there's a party! With tables! And chairs! And umbrellas! And the sun is setting, but the Malnosso had no taste and put the ocean on the east side of Luceti, so it's a sunset over the mountains which isn't as cool as an ocean sunset. But anyway. There's a volleyball net and, you know, an ocean to swim in. Also Sokka ordered a generator with his mission points and abducted the karaoke machine. It was mostly to provide some music, but people can get up and sing with it too.

As for the food? There's a table for that. It's a bring your own dish affair, since Katara is kind of their team cook and they can't exactly make her own birthday meal, right? So anyone coming can bring whatever they like and set it out. The gang brought some meals of their own, so there's bound to be some cool dishes from the air nomads, water tribe, and fire nation. And cake. A big chocolate cake. Someone made it! We don't know who. (Feel free to dibs being the baker or something if you want.)

And a table! A table for presents! Bring a present, set it there. It's very organized.]

((ooc: It's out on the beach and just a general sort of party affair, so feel free to have characters show up even if they're not friends with the birthday girl. It's a free for all. SO YOU BETTER MINGLE OR THERE'S GONNA BE WORDS.

[Aang has immersed himself in the sand nearby with his head sticking out and watches with a gleeful grin as Shikamaru overlooks the plate.]

[And then Aang was the creeper emote on plurk

All right, well he did say he'd give it a shot. He picks up a plate, careful to balance the soup, and tries a dumpling first as he walks around the table. Aang may get a sandy foot on his head now (though not very hard - Shikamaru caught on he was there).]

[Aang's head sinks a little from the foot, then he pops up and spits out sand.]

Does this mean I fail my ninja test?

[He removes his foot, and smirks.]

How's a C- sound?

[He clambers out of the sand and starts to shake some off.]

I'll have to live with it. I hope I can still make it into a good ninja business.

Only if you go into the jewelry business.

[You're too kind to be a ninja, Aang.]

These dumplings, though. They're not half-bad.

[He chuckles at the jewelry joke. He has been told he has a future there.]

Thanks! They're called momos, like my lemur. I'm glad the official ninja food requester approves.

I'm just the stand-in. [He takes another bite, finishing it off.]

But see? Told you there was no reason to doubt.

Yeah... you're right. I still have to make sure the birthday girl approves. Thanks for believing in me. And there's something else I want to thank you for, too.

[He's sure she will - she really seems to get a kick out of cultural things, but-]

Oh?

[He smirks.] I noticed a familiar-looking drawing. Thanks for keeping an eye on my granddaughter at some point. I didn't know you were that good with kids. [He's earned ninja babysitter points.]

[endgames]

[Ohhhh. That, huh. He smiles.]

Those skills are a work-in-progress, but it wasn't a problem, Aang. Ikki is a really great kid.

[They've had a few chats in the past two days, plus he borrowed her to make those noodles. In a way, he thinks she's helped him a lot too, not that he knows how to say it.]

Well it sounds like you're already shaping up to be quite the ninja babysitter. [Aang definitely puts him high on a list of people qualified to look after Ikki... even if he hates to imagine any circumstances that would separate the whole gaang from the house.] I'm glad you're getting along so well. She really is so wonderful. [He's not sure if he's felt this happy his whole time in Luceti.]

Haa... Babysitter, huh? [NOT SURE IF WANT... She is fantastic, but he is supposed to be the cool guy-

...actually, even as he thinks that, it doesn't sound so bad. Maybe because it reminds him of Asuma, who was never bothered hanging out with a twelve-year-old punk. That's what made him so cool.]

That's not a usual job description, but who knows. [Subject change no jutsu!] And how 'bout you? You seem to be taking to the role of grandpa readily, for your age.

Everyone wonders that. But it doesn't really worry me that much... aside from the fact that she's here in Luceti, of course. But... it's great to get to know her and to have a family. And... it's been so long since I've been around another Airbender. I've never felt more hopeful about my future back home.

[endgames]

[He's been thinking about this from Katara's perspective, even though he hasn't spoken to her about it, so he needed to hear Aang's thoughts on it. It makes a lot of sense. Aang hasn't had a family for a long time.]

I think I can understand it. You've probably hoped for that for a long time, haven't you? And now you know you really do accomplish everything you dreamed of doing.

[He gives a fond smile.]

Yeah. [Except I'll leave Katara alone one day, and I'll never see my grandchildren. He blows the negative thoughts away quickly.] I know things are still bad here, but it's so refreshing to know that everything will go so well back home.

[endgames]

[He thinks about saying something else. Something like: Are you really so okay with it?

Because for all the good he said, his life is as set in stone in Katara's, in a way, and it has to be strange even for him.

But that's not the sort of thing you get into at a party. Maybe some other time.]

You're a good guy, Aang. [He shifts his plate.] And so far a good cook. Sure this soup isn't gonna singe my tongue off, though?

[It smells... well it's an odd smell, he wants to say 'spicy'.]

[His smile gets warmer.]

Thanks a lot, Shikamaru. You're a great guy, too. And it is really hot. You should keep a drink handy just in case. It's more of a winter food, but it was one of the easiest dishes I could think of to start with.

Glad I got that warning.

[He reaches back and grabs one of the root beers Masaomi brought. He pops it open before trying the soup.]

Here goes nothing.

[He chuckles a little and then watches the tasting.]

[Hm... yeah, that's not bad at all. It's got an interesting taste to it but-

Oh, yup. Definitely heats you up.] Damn.
