Beach Party!?
Who: Anyone who wants to come!
What: BEACH PARTY! (For Katara or something)
When: In the evening, about 7PM
Where: On the beach! Somewhere!
Summary: It's Katara's 17th and while all friends of Team Avatar are invited, anyone else can gatecrash too.
Rating: E for everyone (for God's sake there's going to be seven year olds!)
[A few days before the birthday, Katara's housemates began birthday preparations. Not quite entirely secret, but they made invitations, told friends, spread the word, and so on. Birthday on the beach. Be there or be a loser McButtface without friends.
And so there's a party! With tables! And chairs! And umbrellas! And the sun is setting, but the Malnosso had no taste and put the ocean on the east side of Luceti, so it's a sunset over the mountains which isn't as cool as an ocean sunset. But anyway. There's a volleyball net and, you know, an ocean to swim in. Also Sokka ordered a generator with his mission points and abducted the karaoke machine. It was mostly to provide some music, but people can get up and sing with it too.
As for the food? There's a table for that. It's a bring your own dish affair, since Katara is kind of their team cook and they can't exactly make her own birthday meal, right? So anyone coming can bring whatever they like and set it out. The gang brought some meals of their own, so there's bound to be some cool dishes from the air nomads, water tribe, and fire nation. And cake. A big chocolate cake. Someone made it! We don't know who. (Feel free to dibs being the baker or something if you want.)
And a table! A table for presents! Bring a present, set it there. It's very organized.]
((ooc: It's out on the beach and just a general sort of party affair, so feel free to have characters show up even if they're not friends with the birthday girl. It's a free for all. SO YOU BETTER MINGLE OR THERE'S GONNA BE WORDS.
Now have fun.))

I decided we needed a second one for the scar
...And he immediately wonders how he didn't notice it before. In fact]
Aang-kun!
Sounds like a plan
Aang stops to float idly in the water and looks in the direction of the voice.]
Masaomi?

[He's being too direct, too abrupt. He knows this. It's still something he has to ask, because something he has wondered about all this time might finally make sense now]
no subject
The scar? You want to know about the scar? My... scar?
no subject
[He keeps a level gaze, but there's a whole lot of emotions swimming in his eyes]
no subject
It... it's from back home. Kind of an... old wound.
no subject
[He's being too direct. Too personal. He knows. He can't stop here though. He's at the shoreline trembling, because this is the answer. this is the connection.]
no subject
At... at Ba Sing Se, we were trying to fight... the Fire Nation. [He wasn't sure what was or wasn't supposed to be kept secret; but it was probably better not to specify that it was Zuko and his sister who were involved.] One of them... shot me with [in a lower, trembling voice, fading as he finishes the word.] l-lightning...

"That's a very impressive skill. You'll have to be careful with it."
All the other times. All the other sayings. All the other cautions. The looks of fear. Awe. Trepidation. Linda herself, who set him down on the shore moments ago is now looking between the two. From Aang to Masaomi. Masaomi has gone rigid. His back is too straight, his arm at his side is clenching into a fist in spite of himself. His breathing is shallow.
That's it]

I'm deeply sorry for intruding on your memories like that. Thank for telling me.
no subject
"I was gone, but you brought me back."
He looked up at Masaomi, still speaking weakly.]
I-it's okay, Masaomi. With this on my back, people had to find out sooner or later. [He tries a light grin.] And I can't think of a funny enough story to use instead.
no subject
[He pulls up from how bow, grinning. Yes, he's apologetic. but Aang probably needs him to be flippant more right now]
no subject
I think it was a nun. But hey, it could work.

[His smile's more genuine now as he raises more of himself above the water.]

That sounds closer to the Avatar part of me. [The part he never wanted and tried to run away from.] Simple monk, complex Avatar? [The hero part he's unsure of.]

[And then with all five fingers up, he glances at the bracelet on the same wrist, closing them, and then making a fist, which he holds up to the sky before glancing up himself-]
But all of those come together to make "me" - a man who'll do anything for his beloved few.

That's good. After all, we both love a woman who's very troubled at the moment.

[He blurts out in disbelief, even though when he thinks about it, he should have known it was a possibility. Sure, Katara's explanation was brief enough that Aang was able to believe that Katara was just one of many girls that he shallowly hit on, no big deal. But that's when he doesn't take into account the sheer grief Masaomi was barely restraining during that journal talk. And how scary he got about Katara's wellbeing earlier that day.]
no subject
[Oh come on, seriously. His eye twitches. Just a little annoyed in spite of himself.
Katara.]
