DRAFT - The Battle of Vaskoth

On the 25th, Lucetians are ushered in to join an already growing army to repel the Cultists.

On the 26th, strange symptoms are reported. The first Runners appear and by nightfall, the hospital is lost.

On the 27th, the cultist horde is completely lost to the virus. They send no more reinforcements.

On the 28th, the situation is grim and an evacuation is called. But the battle is not over.

Notes: There will be two NPC threads. One for Specialist Davis and another for Carol.

25th-28th

[On the 25th, Kouki manage to grab a dagger and a gun before he head out. He may prefer using magic, but there's always a chance where he can't use his spells. He try to keep things quick and low-key, but his spells may attract attention. From the flickering flames, to the smashing sound of ice to the brief flashes electricity. He sustain his magic by Draining away some of the cultists' energies for himself.

By the time the rumours spread, he refrain from using Drain any more than necessary. But that means he's not lasting as long as normal. He have better stamina than a normal human, but the demon king have his limits.

When the infected come, his reservation about using his magic drops more. Must strike them down now. By this point, his red eyes are more obvious than before.

He heard the order for evacuation and decided to stay. Someone may have to convince him before he run himself ragged...]

28th

[Clove stays safely tucked away as she watches fire take out an infected. It's the third time she's seen someone who can do that.

"Magic" is something she has no concept of, but it's startling and fascinating.

Once it's over, she comes out, moving carefully to show she shouldn't be ranked as an enemy.]

[If she haven't, he might have target her as an enemy. With a blink, Kouki looks away from the fallen infected - the Fire Dance spell certainly lives up to its name - and over at the girl. His red eyes slowly turning back into its usual blue hue.]

Do what? My magic?

[The power just come naturally to him, ever since he ascended and fully awakened as the demon king.]

[She knows the word, has heard it mostly in Luceti. But she has no real understanding of it all.]

[He'd love to try and explain it. But it's probably not ideal to do it in the middle of a draft. He's going to stick to a short and simple explanation, for now.]

Those with spiritual powers can use magic. How easily they can use it depends on their mental strength, discipline and innate aptitude.

[A world without magic. It's almost nostalgic.] Must be interesting for you to see.

[He straightens up, almost casually. But Kouki's keeping his guard up for any surprise attacks.]

I've seen a lot of it this draft. Almost all of it to do with fire.

And it's all really useful for staying alive against these things.

[Because that's what it all comes down to. Survival.]

Fire is only one part of magic. [Fire, ice, electricity, wind, holy, unholy...] It's just a rather useful element to use here.

If you can use it, might as well make sure you can survive. [Whether with offensive or supportive spells. Hm... He can still cast a few more spells before he need to recover his energy.]

And only certain people can use it.

[Which is the disappointing part. Then again, only certain people can use knives or can really learn to use a sword, and it takes a lot of practice.

But it's the seed of an idea. Impossible, she knows, but it's there all the same.]

...If I recall correctly, the Filial spirits back in the village can teach their magic to anyone who manage to contact them.

[He never bothered. His usual spell range are normally good enough for him.]

I think I read about them. [Not very closely. At that point, her mind had kind of tuned out what was on the page, and she took in only the surface information.]

And they... teach magic. To anyone.

Yes, anyone. You just need to contact them and be ready to spend some time learning.

[Depending on who she try to contact first, it might be very easy or very hard. Reading about other people's experiences is one of the things he always find interesting.]
