Who: All Pokémon trainers! And any friends they want to bring along.

Summary: TRAINERS. AND FRIENDS. AND POKÉMON. AND BONDING. AND FOOD.
Rating: Crys is here so who knows how violent it'll get.
[IT'S TIME... TO D-D-D-D-party.

AKA today is trainer day! The second one. And you know what's great? It's snowing! Making it perfect weather for shounen snowball fights or whatever the heck else people do in snow (I wouldn't know). Snow aside though, there's also lots of food ranging from all kinds of pastries to sandwiches scattered around a few large designated food tables. Hopefully there's enough to accommodate everyone...! There are also Frisbees and volley/soccer balls and whatever other toys people may have brought along.

But yes. Go forth, young trainers. And bond like you've never bonded before!!]

[Green comes up to check on Masaomi, looking more neutral than the frustrated and angry worry from their last big conversation. Still, it's not so different than most of their training sessions, since Green was simply starting with getting Masaomi ordering his Pokémon.]

How is Linda today, Masaomi?

[The visible effect of Green talking to him is, well, visible. He stands a little straighter, his eyes lose a little mirth, and his tone actually gets a little flatter. He did tell Green he was back from his kidnapping (filtered message) two days ago, and he assumes the guy got it. Probably why he's asking, right? He glances down at his heels, where the mouse is eating an apple, and then back at Green, waving a gloved hand]

Well, she's not injured right now.

[Well, at least he's getting a more stern and serious attitude out of you...? But it's the mallynapping that is in Green's mind with the follow-up question.]

And how are you faring?

Well I'm not injured either.

[Flatly. Still flatly.]

I'm giving you a week off of training in battle, regardless. But I want you to work on communication with Linda, and get to the point where she will listen to you when you give her a command and you are able to direct her without pushing harder than she'll accept. I can't tell you how to do that. As a trainer, that is your responsibility to find out for yourself.

Sir, yes, sir.

[He tries not to sound sarcastic, but really, he can't help it. There's still a note of it there. Even if talks with Shikamaru over time have made him more relaxed about it all, the "know nothing" vibe still jerks him at a basic level]

[Green frowns, staring down Masaomi with that typical troubled look, before dropping it and putting his hands in his pockets.]

Alright, then. You two take care of yourselves and each other - that's your priority.

And here I thought "fun" was the premium here.

[And he forces a smile on his lips, rocking back on his heels in an effort to show how not-tense he is]

That's a good second on the list, after what you've gone through. It's a good bonding exercise.

[...He says, in the same tone he uses when describing training techniques.]

Wooo~ow, how poetic. [And he folds his arms behind his head, forcing ahalf-grin onto his face]

[Okay, he was going to give you wiggle room because you've been through the kidnapping, and he was going to give you even more because you were that new. But even Green has a tolerance level.]

If you're going to be a smartass, then I'm not going to give you any breaks. If you want to be a Pokémon Trainer, you will cut out the sass.

[Why did he ever respect Green, again? He lowers his arms and allows the smile which didn't meet his eyes in the first place fall, and allows his expression to reflect his actual mood. That is, dour. Flat. Cold. Too numb to have a strong emotional reaction one way or the other.

Rapidly, he's deciding he hates this man in front of him]

Then what's my assignment?

[Green's had worse people hate him!]

I've just told you. Your bond with Linda, your understanding of how to battle with her, is what you need to work on.

You just told me I don't get a break, so what's the assignment now, Green-san?

[His eyes don't break from the guy, nor does the note in his voice shake. It's just a light and rigid statement.]

I'm telling you to cut it out, or there will be repercussions. What's the point in teaching you if you don't want to learn?

[And now his head tilts a little, his eyes narrowing a little]

I'm asking you what to do, Green-san.

[He's willingly asking. He's going out of his way to humor this guy and his grandstanding. He's done everything Green's asked. He doesn't know where the question's coming from]

Your goal is to get Linda listening to you. You need to show a measurable improvement.

Anything else?

[This guy likes to speak in broad strokes, doesn't he? He snaps his fingers, and Linda (who is now done with her apple) scurries up to get on his shoulder. She has been trying to ignore this whole conversation as best she can]

Do you think it's so simple for you to accomplish that? Because all I have seen is that Linda only listens to you when she feels it convenient.

I don't think anything, Green-san. My head's very empty right now, and I'm just waiting for your word.

[Still flatly, he reaches a gloved arm up to pet the top of his mouse's head]

[There's a frustrated sigh, that comes from Green. This is the hardest lesson to teach a Pokémon trainer, because most trainers have some basis to understanding it.]

Listen. Establishing the trust between a trainer and his Pokémon is not a step-by-step, to-do list. It takes work, like any human relationship does. It's a bond, and the meaning is up to you.

You need to find that meaning. Because the only thing you've given me is a desire for power.

[Huh. In the midst of his bad mood, even he recognizes that was a breakthrough of sorts. He blinks his eyes, and while he pets Linda one more time, he brings down his arm as more light comes into his eyes]

I'm not sure there's a meaning to a relationship between people, honestly. The relationship itself's what I enjoy.

There is a meaning to it. It's not just about enjoying it. Don't you have someone that you can rely on? Someone who you can depend on to take care of you? And someone who you would protect, and fight with.

That's only the surface of what it means to be a trainer. That's only the bare bones of the sort of bond you're supposed to have. It's not about finding power, not really. It's about that bond.

[Green's pressing in, and though he sounds annoyed, he sounds more driven to push this point home.]

Look at these trainers, today. Look at how they are with their Pokémon - that's your mission, Masaomi. Understand what makes every one of these trainers steady, reliable battlers!

[That just sounds so... tool-like. For a moment, then he closes his eyes and exhales before shaking his head. He's trying to release his tension. Linda actually copies the move on his shoulder, and then Masaomi nods when he's done]

You got it, Green-san.

[And he forces another smile, more for Green's benefit than anything. It doesn't reach his eyes, because he's still trying to calculate how that's different from his current situation with Linda. She's also uncomprehending, but she's also trying to not zone into this very much. There's enough on her mind without getting involved in human problems]

[He's worried about that, but he won't push any further right here.]

Good. It's a task I know you can accomplish, just think on it.

[He finally turns and leaves - he's got quite a handful of other trainers to talk to, today! He'll get you for the rest of the month, too.]
