Summary: Rei is getting a surprise birthday party!

Helios had done all he could to make sure Rei was out long enough from the shrine to setup for what was indeed her birthday. With some help from her friends and close acquaintances Helios had decorated the shrine in some lights and lanterns for the occasion. It was nothing too outrageous because he knew Rei was a more subtle person, so the decorations are few but meaningful.

Birthdays are good for starting fresh, and spring is a time for letting go of the past and starting anew. The lanterns symbolize that but also help with the festivities. Even if its a small affair Helios puts a lot of hard work into it because of how helpful Rei has been these past few weeks. So to help ease out of the terrible feelings since the draft and to celebrate the birthday of a good friend Helios will invite whoever is close to the young woman.

((ooc; For the sake of not hurting my hands trying to juggle both a post and a log I'm just going to handwave Helios putting up the announcement over the journals to help set things up for Rei's party. If you're character is a close acquaintance/friend of Rei's they're more than welcome to stop by!))

[Kari's always a little awkward when it comes to big gatherings like these, especially when she's forced to be herself instead of Hoshikyo. Perhaps more so in this instance, since she hasn't really gone out as herself all that often since the draft -- the injuries she got didn't bother her as much when she was transformed, after all. This was practically her first time out as herself. And while it might be a little warmer today than it has been, she's still wearing long sleeves.]

[But she wasn't about to just blow off Rei's birthday! Though she'll still wait until she has a moment to talk to Rei alone before she really makes an attempt to talk to her. It was easier than trying to fight for conversation between making small-talk with people she didn't know.]

So, how's it feel being another year older?

[Thankfully Helios has the sense to not invite a huge number of people, just a small handful, or Rei would've been much more skittish about it. When Kari approaches, the miko has probably wander off a little ways on her own to get away from other people. Even at her own birthday, Rei wasn't the most social person, definitely preferring to engage people one on one.

And...when she hear's Kari's voice, she turns, and her eyes light up. She's glad to see her friend. Even moreso after the draft and everything that had transpired between them. There were other thoughts there, too, but she shoves those aside.]

Ah, hello, Kari-chan! It's good to see you, and I'm glad you came!

[Oh, right...question.]

Umm, it feels nice, much the same as always. But still nice.

Of course! I mean, I'm not just gonna skip out on a friend's birthday! [Nevermind that she totally would if it was anyone other than Rei. But details.]

So you're 17 now, right? You know, it's still kinda weird to think I'm a year older than you...

[Rei just beams, nodding happily in acceptance. She...generally avoided parties too]

Yes, I'm 17 but...why is that strange?

Well... you know. You just seem so much more-- [There are a lot of words that could finish this sentence, but not many Kari would actually say outloud.] --mature than I am.

[And then, with a bit of a grin:] Or maybe I'm just not used to being so old.

[Rei's smile changes, growing somewhat sly and just a touch mischievous]

Maybe it's both, oba-chan. [She drawls that word slightly, still smiling]

Awww come on, is that any way to talk to your elders? And here I was hoping for Onee-sama.

You...my sister? Haha.

[She laughs a little weakly]

Kari-chan, wouldn't that have made Valentine's awkward?

...not any more awkward than you thinking I meant it literally!

[Or maybe she did and just doesn't want Rei to know she's into that sort of thing...? Finally, all that practice in hiding her otaku-shame from Mitsune is paying off!!]

Besides, are you implying Valentine's Day wasn't already awkward?

[Rei would just find that quirky, really. And no more awkward than her connection to, say, Billy.]

I am. It wasn't so bad, and I have to admit it gave me new perspective. I'm sorry if it hurt you though.

[Rei. Rei stahp. You are going to make her blush.]

O-Oh. Well-- wait, you didn't hurt me! I mean, I'm a big girl, so I can handle this kind of weird stuff just fine! [...] Not that it was weird! With you! Just. You know. Awkward. Since we're friends.

[Rei's composure cracks a bit, and she finds herself stifling laughs.]

It's...fufu...it's alright. I'm just...teasing.

[Except if she did, she was certainly acting serious enough. HUFF. Let's just go back to the safer topic, yes.]

But. You know. Different worlds aside and all, I'm technically from a future Japan. So if were in the same world, you'd be like, three times my age! [Grin.] How about that, Obaasan.

Well, I would say that I'm remarkably beautiful for my age, wouldn't you?
