Luceti Valley - The First Log

Summary: Luceti has become an idyllic and peaceful 50s-esque village. The first few days are just business as usual, right?

August 1st had seemed like an ordinary day in Luceti. But late in the evening, for those night owls who had not turned in yet, they were witness to strange fluctuations in the barrier. Beautiful, really, almost like Luceti had received its own 'Northern Lights', even though it seemed to come from the far east, across the ocean. This ominous light show lasted for all of fifteen minutes before it ceased all together. Skimming the ocean waters, a horde of cultists entered Luceti, cloaked by darkness. Upon reaching the entrance to the tunnels, their leader stepped inside and was followed one by one by his fellow cultists. When the last had entered, the tunnel entrance closed. Across the mountains, the entrance to the tunnels in the village did the same.

Midnight passed without incident, but by three in the morning, the change suddenly came. Minds were altered, forms were changed, and buildings sprang from nowhere.

Much later, on August 2nd, morning settled on a changed village, the new mayor made his way to his mansion with his pair of adorable dobermans at either side of him. The sun shined bright. It was a good day to be a Lucetian.

[Now that Kari was moving in with the Starks, she wouldn't need to worry about keeping stuff scattered around various parts of Lowtown anymore. As soon as school ended, she made her way to the city and started visiting various friends to pick up whatever things she may have left with them since losing her home with her mother -- not that she ever outright said that was the case, for the most part. And though Josh was never one of the people she stayed with, he was a childhood friend, so she could depend on him a little for keeping her things safe.]

[Of course, now she just had to find him. It'd be awkward to go to his house if he wasn't home. So she's wandering about and keeping an eye open. When she finally spies him across the street, she grins before giving a loud whistle in his direction.] Hey, Pretty-boy! How much?

[ He recognizes the whistle immediately, and turns to give Kari a wink. ]

Who, me? That depends... [ He makes his way across the street towards her, waiting until he's close enough to use a normal speaking voice. ]

How much money do you have now, hmm?

I have enough. What, think I can't afford you?

I wouldn't be so sure. I don't come cheap.

[ More giggles. ]

So how did it go? Did he pay you off to go away?

Even if he offered, I would have turned it down. I'm not so cheap either, you know! [With a pout!!]

[A-And maybe a little blush as she looks away.] Actually, he... asked me to come live with him.

... Pardon?

...yeah. That was about the face I made too.

You're not joking?

... He wasn't joking?

I almost wish he had been. I tried to turn him down, but it's not like I have anywhere else to go...

Hmm. Does that mean you're one of the aristocracy now?

Oh gross, don't even joke about that! I mean, sure I'm related to him. And yeah, I'll be living there from now on... but it's not like I'm going to just turn into some snooty Miss Moneybags overnight!

[Not that she isn't extremely grateful for what they're doing for her, of course, but it was still an awful lot to take in. And she knew well enough that Tony was likely the only person who actually wanted her there -- there's no way they could ever become a real family.]

Hee hee, just checking. After all, I don't think we'd be able to be friends anymore.

But this does change things for you.

[Flatly:] Gee, some loyal friend you are.

[And then a small sigh.] But yeah. I guess it does. I mean, it'll be nice not having to worry about where my next meal is coming from or if I'll have a roof over my head on a rainy night, but I can already tell I'm not exactly wanted there.

Well. Like, I mean, Mr. and Mrs. Stark are really nice and have been totally welcoming, Mr. Stark especially. But their sons, not so much. William is just about as bratty as you'd expect a spoiled little rich boy to be, and the other one has barely even spoken more than two words at me.

[With a slight huff. She didn't exactly want to sound ungrateful, but it was the truth.]

I met some of the extended family too, and they were all pretty nice. But I'm pretty sure one of them tried interrogating me.

How old are the sons?

Just young enough to keep Mr. Stark from looking like a jackass. [Which she's actually incredibly grateful for -- she may be an illegitimate child, but at least her mother wasn't somebody's mistress.] We go to the same school.

I see. And how did that interrogation go?

Probably not as well as she was hoping. To be honest, I couldn't tell if she was interrogating me, or if she was just that... dumb about how people like us live.

I mean, she actually thought I was serious when I said people have to fight just to breathe out here.

[Why are pretty people so dumb?]

You mean we don't?

[ Excuse you Josh has both brains and good looks tyvm ]

[Josh is dumb in different ways ok ok.]

If we did, you'd probably suffocate.

Hmm, but why would I when I have a good partner like you to do my fighting for me?

Partner, nothing. Get your own damn air.

But I thought you'd be rich enough to buy some for me now.

Hardly. I told you, it's not like I'm just going to take their charity. Even the room they gave me seems like too much...
