Luceti Valley - The Second Log

Who: Everyone
What: The second part of the experiment. Things begin to unravel.
When: August 7th - August 10th
Where: Luceti itself
Summary: Check out the mod post for more. This covers Day 6-9!
Rating: Varies with thread. Please move explicit stuff to appointments post with appropriate warnings.

Luceti Valley continued in its own merry little way. The rich got richer, the poor got poorer. A new tax hike had ensured increasing animosity between both groups, despite the protests of the every charitable Lord Mayor. But on the sixth day, something happens and people begin to notice things are unusual. Idle thoughts that if thought about too much is bound to get you a visit to the police station for an hour or so. Or worse, it may just get you committed.

Meanwhile, the asylum continues to gain more and more patients. Those that are trapped there will find escaping difficult, but there may be more to this place than they first assumed...

On the tenth, battle breaks out across Luceti Valley. People begin to exhibit powers and abilities they didn't know they had. The police begin rounding up these people to lock up. If they resist, its bound to come to blows. Even though no one has regained their memories of their true self yet, it becomes apparent that some trickery is afoot, even if they might not know the source or why.

Note: This is the second log! There will be a third and final event log for the aftermath. There will also be two separate logs specifically for finding John and defeating Zompano. For those of you that signed up, we'll be randomizing the results and replying to the selected characters later tonight. In the meantime, keep enjoying the event! If you have questions, direct them here.

[Being out and about seems like a less pleasant prospect as each day wears on. The madness is spreading, and after watching several people be detained and dragged off from Lowtown and Hightown yesterday and this morning, Natasha's retreated back to the familiar area around the lake, hoping the familiar surroundings will ease her anxiety.

It doesn't. If anything, the knot of dread and unsease in the pit of her stomach, that growing sense of wrongness, is growing stronger.

She'd had plans for this week. Things she needed to accomplish. The search for a house had been primary, of course, but there was supposed to be a party in a few nights, one intended to give an important announcement. She had no idea if it would happen now - last she'd heard, the host had been dragged to the asylum with shouted denials and nonsense. But those thoughts were easier to dwell on than the endless questions that kept floating to the surface - ones she struggled not to give in to. She had Rue to think about, and her sisters. They were counting on her. She was fine.

Still, when she looks up from her walk around the lake and spotted the cause of some of her thoughts, she paused in surprise for a moment, wondering if she should approach, or if perhaps she'd be better served by just hiding in her house until this all blew over.

But she wasn't a coward, so she gathered her composure, slipped on a friendly smile and started towards him. They had their agreed-upon ruse, after all. Even if everything else was falling quickly into chaos.]

[James doesn't notice her at first. His gaze is on the lake, but his thoughts are far away. He snaps back to focus at the glimpse of a reflection in the water, turning sharply, eyes narrow until he catches sight if her face. It's a split second before his own smile fits carefully into place.]

This is a surprise. Hello, beautiful. [James holds an arm out to her, like he'd started to raise it for that reason.] If I'd known you were out here, I would have brought a picnic down for us.

Hello, James. [She gives him a crooked smile as she approaches closer, not missing the way he'd tensed, gone wary, until he recognized her. When she reaches him, she twines her arm with his and teasingly leans in to drop a kiss on his cheek.]

Somehow I don't think this is quite the atmosphere for a picnic. There's a tension in the air of late.

[She pauses, narrows her gaze thoughtfully at him a moment.] Has everything been alright with you?

[James hums in agreement, tugging her gently to walk with him along the lake. He likes Natasha genuinely, even if their relationship is a sham. She's beautiful and clever, and fiercely protective of her siblings, something they both understand well.]

Fine, for the most part. Just a little tense - bad feeling lately, you know? I might look in on my brother tomorrow but I know he'd send word if anything happened. [He inclines his head at her.] And you?

[She lets herself be pulled into a stroll, going happily enough, because the company of someone she doesn't have to be outright suspicious of at the moment is a pleasant distraction. Besides, they still had their sham to craft, show off, just in case anyone happened by and saw them. It would give credence to their announcement later in the week.

...If later in the week still happened, at any rate. At the moment, everything seemed out of whack.]

I hope he and his family are alright. Pass along my greetings, would you? It's been quite a while since I've seen Steve. His children must be growing up quickly these days. Rue mentions them now and again when she tells me about school.

[She glances around her when he inquires after how things have been, taking a moment to choose her words with care.] Well enough, I suppose. This tension's affecting everyone, I think. And to be honest, a little nervous about what we're doing. If it will work. What the consequences will be afterwards.

Like weeds. I can't even remember when they were rugrats anymore. Seems like forever.

[He notes the silence, but he doesn't press. He glances at her, and reaches over to squeeze her arm gently where it's tucked into his.] Me too. It's a big risk, and you've got family to look after. But we'll make this work, whatever happens.

[She gives a soft laugh at that, peeking over at him for a moment.] It will work for a time, yes. But how long are you looking on playing out this ruse, James? It's not that I don't appreciate the opportunity this gives me - because I do, truly. I've been hoping for something like this for quite some time and even if it is... unconventional, it couldn't have come at a better time. But I do have my family to think about. My daughter. I'm worried about how this might affect her. She's... [Natasha hesitates before huffing out a small breath, half laugh, half sigh.] She's everything.
