at rest
She doesn't say much when she's offered a bottle of water, just smiles and says thank you. Even she's too tired for much social niceties. But the blood on her shirt does catch her eye--she can only assume it's not a major wound, but even so.]
I'll help you bandage that if you'd like.
at rest
What?
[It's not rude, it's just surprised. Clove looks at herself and... sees the blood.]
Oh.
[She grabs her dark shirt and the (possibly unclean) water she found elsewhere and put into a bowl to sort of wash it. Wringing it shows more blood in the water.
Which makes Clove smirk a bit.]
Thanks, but -- it's not mine. Just soaked through from what I got on me.
[For tonight, at least, she's uninjured. That probably won't last long.]
no subject
It is a bit of a relief to hear that it isn't her blood--titan blood evaporates, so when Petra sees someone in blood soaked clothing, she can only assume it's the worst.]
That's good. Too many people are getting hurt and not paying attention to themselves.
no subject
[Clove knows her own failings. Tactics? Not her thing. But she knows how to fight and how to make sure her opponent doesn't get up.
And that if she ignores too serious an injury, she won't survive.]
no subject
[Not that they shouldn't have been training or learning the basics, just in case. Anything could happen--and something certainly did. But practicing in the Battle Dome and actually being on the battlefield were two different things.]
no subject
[Bitter? Who's bitter?]
no subject
[Petra sighs at that thought, taking a drink of water before pressing the bottle against her forehead. When was the last time she had gotten to bathe? She must stink terribly by this point. Admittedly, it was hard to smell worse than the bodies outside, but still.]
no subject
no subject
[Petra has done a lot to survive; she would do more if given the chance.]
no subject
What's your world like?
no subject
[She trails off for a moment, looking away with a vague sort of expression.]
They don't protect against everything.
no subject
Our districts are surrounded by fences. They're supposed to be electrified, but they're usually not. I think only Three and Five have it all the time.
no subject
[Petra doesn't know exactly what an electric fence is, but having experienced a few shocks from the electrical appliances, she can figure out what it might be.]
Are those more dangerous areas, or?
no subject
[The Capitol keeps them divided, drums up district pride and hatred for other districts. It's something she's realized.]
It's kind of like here. There are a lot of enclosures, but we never see any of them. Most of the time. We only leave when the Malnosso want us to and permit it.
In Panem, that's the Capitol.
And, kind of like here... We don't know what's out there. What's between the districts. There's a train that runs through them all, but even then you never leave the tracks, if you do travel. We... don't know what else is out there.
no subject
That sounds like home... though your home sounds bigger. I hadn't met anyone who lived confined like we did.
[She laughs a little at that, a rather hollow sound.]
I had hoped we were the only ones like that. I wouldn't wish being caged like this on anyone else. Even if we had more space back home, being isolated is terrible.
no subject
[Clove actually smiles a little. Mostly because she makes herself.]
I attended a school that was pretty confined. So when we got to leave and see the rest of the village there? Or I got to go home for the weekend? It always made me feel like my district was really big.
no subject
[Petra looks away, taking another drink of water before continuing.]
Really, I'm the weird one back home. Everyone calls the Survey Corps crazy for wanting to see beyond the walls, but we won't be able to survive forever behind the walls. We should go looking outside now, while we have the chance.
[It takes a moment for Petra to realize she's rambling, and she turns back to Clove with an apologetic look.]
I'm sorry, sometimes I talk too much.
no subject
[She's quick to say it. Because she likes talking to someone who seems to be from a world that... isn't that different from Panem. At least on the surface.]
That's kind of how Panem is. Those who have enough are okay with the way things are. The ones who don't... aren't in a position to change it.
According to someone else from my world... There was a war. The government was overthrown.
no subject
[Petra had a suspect everything, though there were times when she couldn't says just what exactly was so suspicious. But the idea of removing the king and the rest of the nobility entirely... There were other people who could rise up in their place, but even so, it was a drastic change. She has no issue with the king himself per se, so long as the Survey Corps kept receiving funding.]
I guess it happened in the future for you?
no subject
[Clove shrugs. People have been shocked when she's said it before, but it's the simple truth. It doesn't bother her because she lived it and accepted that it had been inevitable from the start.
Her chances had been very low.]
I died a year before the war started.
no subject
[That wasn't quite what Petra was expecting to hear. It is, however, the first time Petra's spoken to someone else who was dead back home. Though she's certain there were more than a few people in Luceti that were in the same position, it was a strange feeling. For a moment, Petra doesn't say anything, and when she does speak, it's with a quiet tone.]
Does it ever not feel weird to wake up here? Truthfully... I feel guilty most days.
no subject
[She pauses, shrugs, and sighs a little.]
I've been here two years.
But I could be gone tomorrow. People go all the time. Sometimes they come back, sometimes they don't.
no subject
It's a little frightening... I know Captain and the others have important things to take care of back home, but I can't help but hope they'll stay a little longer here with me.
no subject
He doesn't have anything to go back to either. But that doesn't mean neither of us will leave this place.
no subject
[She's used to handling uncertainty, but Luceti's something else.]
Thank you, by the way. I haven't really spoken to anyone else about this.
