at rest

[Truthfully, Petra wasn't used to the idea of reinforcements. If an expedition went wrong, well, then you'd turn around and run as fast as you could and hope for the best. It's... nice.

She doesn't say much when she's offered a bottle of water, just smiles and says thank you. Even she's too tired for much social niceties. But the blood on her shirt does catch her eye--she can only assume it's not a major wound, but even so.
]

I'll help you bandage that if you'd like.

at rest

[Close isn't used to politeness, so there's no reation from her when she isn't thanked. She just settles back down into her sitting postion.]

What?

[It's not rude, it's just surprised. Clove looks at herself and... sees the blood.]

Oh.

[She grabs her dark shirt and the (possibly unclean) water she found elsewhere and put into a bowl to sort of wash it. Wringing it shows more blood in the water.

Which makes Clove smirk a bit.]

Thanks, but -- it's not mine. Just soaked through from what I got on me.

[For tonight, at least, she's uninjured. That probably won't last long.]

[There are times for courtesies, and there are times when they just aren't necessary.

It is a bit of a relief to hear that it isn't her blood--titan blood evaporates, so when Petra sees someone in blood soaked clothing, she can only assume it's the worst.
]

That's good. Too many people are getting hurt and not paying attention to themselves.

Most people in Luceti are pretty stupid in a fight.

[Clove knows her own failings. Tactics? Not her thing. But she knows how to fight and how to make sure her opponent doesn't get up.

And that if she ignores too serious an injury, she won't survive.]
petreefied: (drei)

[personal profile] petreefied 2014-05-30 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
They can't be blamed too much. A lot of people here haven't had to fight for themselves like this before.

[Not that they shouldn't have been training or learning the basics, just in case. Anything could happen--and something certainly did. But practicing in the Battle Dome and actually being on the battlefield were two different things.]
shenevermisses: (Not impressed)

[personal profile] shenevermisses 2014-06-01 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Never tell them if you have fought before. If you didn't think it was awful and the worst thing you've ever done? They'll call you barbaric.

[Bitter? Who's bitter?]
petreefied: (sieben)

[personal profile] petreefied 2014-06-05 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
Or just crazy and a waste of tax money.

[Petra sighs at that thought, taking a drink of water before pressing the bottle against her forehead. When was the last time she had gotten to bathe? She must stink terribly by this point. Admittedly, it was hard to smell worse than the bodies outside, but still.]
shenevermisses: (On the move)

[personal profile] shenevermisses 2014-06-06 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
People here don't worry about taxes. Just about their own idea of what's "right" and "okay."
petreefied: (elf)

[personal profile] petreefied 2014-06-06 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
It's hard to worry about things that aren't relevant any more, I guess. But when it comes to surviving, you have to do what it takes.

[Petra has done a lot to survive; she would do more if given the chance.]
shenevermisses: (Biding time)

[personal profile] shenevermisses 2014-06-06 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
[Clove considers it for a moment. She doesn't usually ask people this. Because it means answering it. But this time... She's actually curious.]

What's your world like?
petreefied: (fünf)

[personal profile] petreefied 2014-06-07 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
My world? It's like the enclosure in a way--we live behind walls that keep the monsters out, but...

[She trails off for a moment, looking away with a vague sort of expression.]

They don't protect against everything.
shenevermisses: (Watching you)

[personal profile] shenevermisses 2014-06-07 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
We don't have monsters where I'm from. [Usually. The muttations in the Games don't count. Those are confined in the barriers of the Arenas.]

Our districts are surrounded by fences. They're supposed to be electrified, but they're usually not. I think only Three and Five have it all the time.
petreefied: (drei)

[personal profile] petreefied 2014-06-07 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
So there's not a good way to travel freely between the districts?

[Petra doesn't know exactly what an electric fence is, but having experienced a few shocks from the electrical appliances, she can figure out what it might be.]

Are those more dangerous areas, or?
shenevermisses: (Waiting for it)

[personal profile] shenevermisses 2014-06-07 06:30 pm (UTC)(link)
No. Most people don't ever leave the district they're born in.

[The Capitol keeps them divided, drums up district pride and hatred for other districts. It's something she's realized.]

It's kind of like here. There are a lot of enclosures, but we never see any of them. Most of the time. We only leave when the Malnosso want us to and permit it.

In Panem, that's the Capitol.

And, kind of like here... We don't know what's out there. What's between the districts. There's a train that runs through them all, but even then you never leave the tracks, if you do travel. We... don't know what else is out there.
petreefied: (sieben)

[personal profile] petreefied 2014-06-07 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
[This is sounding all too familiar--minus the trains.]

That sounds like home... though your home sounds bigger. I hadn't met anyone who lived confined like we did.

[She laughs a little at that, a rather hollow sound.]

I had hoped we were the only ones like that. I wouldn't wish being caged like this on anyone else. Even if we had more space back home, being isolated is terrible.
shenevermisses: (On the move)

[personal profile] shenevermisses 2014-06-07 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I never really minded it. District Two was my home, and we... aren't really taught anything else.

[Clove actually smiles a little. Mostly because she makes herself.]

I attended a school that was pretty confined. So when we got to leave and see the rest of the village there? Or I got to go home for the weekend? It always made me feel like my district was really big.
petreefied: (drei)

[personal profile] petreefied 2014-06-07 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Most people back home didn't mind it. If you aren't hungry and can live your life--I guess there isn't much to complain about. The government has banned a lot of books that talk about outside of the walls... it's easier to not think about it after a while. My father's like that, too.

[Petra looks away, taking another drink of water before continuing.]

Really, I'm the weird one back home. Everyone calls the Survey Corps crazy for wanting to see beyond the walls, but we won't be able to survive forever behind the walls. We should go looking outside now, while we have the chance.

[It takes a moment for Petra to realize she's rambling, and she turns back to Clove with an apologetic look.]

I'm sorry, sometimes I talk too much.
shenevermisses: (Pensive)

[personal profile] shenevermisses 2014-06-07 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
You don't.

[She's quick to say it. Because she likes talking to someone who seems to be from a world that... isn't that different from Panem. At least on the surface.]

That's kind of how Panem is. Those who have enough are okay with the way things are. The ones who don't... aren't in a position to change it.

According to someone else from my world... There was a war. The government was overthrown.
petreefied: (fünf)

[personal profile] petreefied 2014-06-07 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
The government was overthrown--completely? As in an entirely new system was set in place?

[Petra had a suspect everything, though there were times when she couldn't says just what exactly was so suspicious. But the idea of removing the king and the rest of the nobility entirely... There were other people who could rise up in their place, but even so, it was a drastic change. She has no issue with the king himself per se, so long as the Survey Corps kept receiving funding.]

I guess it happened in the future for you?
shenevermisses: (Waiting)

[personal profile] shenevermisses 2014-06-07 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Sort of.

[Clove shrugs. People have been shocked when she's said it before, but it's the simple truth. It doesn't bother her because she lived it and accepted that it had been inevitable from the start.

Her chances had been very low.]

I died a year before the war started.

[personal profile] petreefied 2014-06-08 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
I see.

[That wasn't quite what Petra was expecting to hear. It is, however, the first time Petra's spoken to someone else who was dead back home. Though she's certain there were more than a few people in Luceti that were in the same position, it was a strange feeling. For a moment, Petra doesn't say anything, and when she does speak, it's with a quiet tone.]

Does it ever not feel weird to wake up here? Truthfully... I feel guilty most days.
shenevermisses: (Default)

[personal profile] shenevermisses 2014-06-08 06:50 am (UTC)(link)
It took about six months. Realizing I was actually waking up. Actually getting on with my life.

[She pauses, shrugs, and sighs a little.]

I've been here two years.

But I could be gone tomorrow. People go all the time. Sometimes they come back, sometimes they don't.
petreefied: (fünf)

[personal profile] petreefied 2014-06-08 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
[Petra's mourned for plenty of friends and comrades, but mourning for herself is not something she had ever considered.]

It's a little frightening... I know Captain and the others have important things to take care of back home, but I can't help but hope they'll stay a little longer here with me.
shenevermisses: (Stand by me)

[personal profile] shenevermisses 2014-06-12 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
Cato and I -- we're from the same world.

He doesn't have anything to go back to either. But that doesn't mean neither of us will leave this place.
petreefied: (sieben)

[personal profile] petreefied 2014-06-13 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
I've been trying to enjoy what I can, but it's hard most days.

[She's used to handling uncertainty, but Luceti's something else.]

Thank you, by the way. I haven't really spoken to anyone else about this.
