[Much like last year, the rec center is decorated and freshly cleaned, with a plethora set up throughout the main floor. Each set includes a small table and two chairs facing each other. Along with number plates to help direct people to their partners, there is a small pile of coloured paper cards, stacked down, and pencils on every table.

Further back there is a collection of couches forming a lounging circle, as well as a couple of tables with drinks and snacks all set up and ready to be eaten. And yes, the fantastic rainbow cookies from the year before have made a reappearance. No doubt they'll disappear just as fast. The lounge area has a recycled sign from last year that says, "If you find yourself on a turn without a date, come hang out!", and this year, a new weird-looking potato man is hanging on the wall. ...But whatever.

All in all, the whole place looks ready for a big event, and when enough people have gathered - and the clock ticks to the agreed starting time - Teddy and Billy step forward to get things moving at last.]

Hey, hey! Announcement time here! Can everyone hear me? [...] All right, good!

So, some of you may remember this from last year. If you didn't come then, or if you're new, or happened to get roped into this by one of your friends, then on behalf of... uh...

[He glances down at Billy and, taking the cue, his partner speaks up.]

...We'll call the name a work-in-progress for now. Kurt says he's got it covered.

[His response is a raised eyebrow, because really, Kurt? But Teddy gets right back on track with a smile after that.] … Welcome to the second annualish speed dating event! I'm Teddy, this is my fiancé Billy, and we'll be your hosts for today. I know you just want to get started already, but unfortunately, we've got to go over the rules and stuff first. Everyone should have a list of numbers. When Billy gives the signal, everyone will head to the table with the first number on your list, where you'll either wait for or meet up with the person you're paired with. You'll both have five minutes to talk and get to know each other, for better or for worse, and leave with some sort of impression of them. Hopefully good, but can't win 'em all, right? After those five minutes, one of us will blow the whistle, and then you'll head to the table with the next number on your list. Repeat steps one through whatever, until we've reached the end! Hopefully by then, you'll have a new friend, a potential date, or hey, you might have just met the new love of your life!

[Teddy looks to Billy then, who speaks up next to him.]

The tables have conversation cards, in case you're not sure how to get things rolling, or if you're feeling shy- it has topic ideas, questions to ask your partner, whatever we could come up with. As you go through the list, try to give a little 'yes' or 'no' to the people you speak to- yes for wanting to see them again, no for it not being a good match. Once it's over just hand in your papers and we'll let everyone know - discretely, of course! - who gave and received a mutual yes. You don't have to wait for us, though- if you hit it off with someone really well and you both want to hang out right away, don't let us stop you. We have games and stuff set up over in the lounge area-

[He gestures to aforementioned lounge, complete with couches, a couple of tables, a stack of assorted games, and a snack and drink table.]

-Or you could just sneak off to keep yourselves entertained. We don't judge.

We totally do judge, just so you know.

[Billy elbows him. Gosh, boyfriend, behave.

Teddy just laughs a little, waving his hand as if to dismiss a joke.]

Okay, okay, we don't. Anyway, that's about it. We're going to give everyone one minute to get to the first table, then we'll blow the whistle and let everyone start. Thanks for coming, have a great time!

[They go back to sitting at their host table, and then, after the minute passes and everyone's settled, the whistle is blown. BEGIN!]

[Sabriel's name might have been entered by a friend in jest but she was going to do her best to make a good impression. Dressed somewhat casually in her breeches and a tunic she makes her way calmly around the space before the event starts. Take away the nature of the event, Sabriel is content to watch the gathering of people. Outside of a Shift, a Draft or maybe a large party she never saw this many people out and about together that were so close in age to her. It'd be good to at least make new friends with some of the people here.

If Sabriel is first to a table she'll be found looking through some of the provided cue cards, some of them eliciting a puzzled eyebrow lift or a soft huff of a chuckle.

If her partner has arrived first Sabriel will take her seat with a small dip of her head in greeting and a polite, "hello."]

[ Masaomi was there first this time, twirling the flower he's been giving to the women he's matched with during these "dates." At the hello, he smiles back and reaches out to give her the flower. He gives his own polite (if a bit more flirty): ]

Hello to you too.

[Now that was smooth. Masaomi's obviously pretty comfortable in this kind of event. Sabriel accepts the flower with a smile.]

Oh, thank you- [Sabriel pauses a moment as she takes a better look at the young man across from her when a memory from her last time in Luceti catches up with her.]

I remember you from the last time this event came around. Masaomi, right?

[ Also: outfit and flower for context I should have linked earlier. ]

Oh! I'm pleased that you recall me.

[ But now he's put on the spot to remember her. Who was he paired with in the last year. He goes through his rolladex of all the women who he knows from then, and from around the town. She is definitely familiar (if nothing else, that mark on her forehead stands out to him. But...

... Man shit, now he's going to look like a heel just after he was smooth. He cannot place her name. Five seconds becomes ten. And he looks a little apologetic with the unspoken ask of her own ]

[Sabriel's outfit is something like this. And don't worry Masaomi, it was a while ago in Luceti time that they met so technically her memory of their last/first meeting is more fresh than his. Plus her name is a rather odd one to remember.]

Sabriel.

Sabriel-san, then. I'm very sorry.

[ He bows at the wait... as much as one can in a sitting position in a chair, that is ]

[Sabriel blinks at the bow, a little surprised by the formality of it.]

It's no trouble, really. It's been a while since I was last here.

Even so, a man like me won't so easily forgive himself for that sort of error... So for now, let's burn you forever into my memory!

[ And he claps both hands on the counter: ] Let's hear and introduction!

[Sabriel can't help but smile at Masaomi's enthusiasm. It was nice to see someone so energetic.]

Alright then...to start from the top, my name is Sabriel. I'm eighteen and out of school but my highest marks were in Music and the Fighting Arts, and my favourite way to spend an afternoon is with a good book and a cup of tea.

[She grins and tips the flower he'd given her towards him.]

There's a lot of readers here. [ He observes this offhand. But then he taps three of his fingers on the table before bringing that same hand to tap on his chin and: ] I'm Masaomi Kidea, twenty years ago, and blood type A. Back in school I'd day where I excelled was English and linguistics. I happen to enjoy reading too to some extent, but if you're asking me for an "ideal" afternoon, it'd probably have to be on a date with a pretty young woman like yourself.

[Very smooth, Masaomi. Sabriel can think of quite a few of her classmates who'd be falling all over you.]

[Someone who looks - well, not quite as put-out by this as he is, but also not running full-tilt into the festive mood. 'Festive' is not something he's good at]

[Sabriel's making the best of things, and from what she remembers from last year not every one who attended had done so voluntarily. This gentleman seems to be a part of that category judging by the quiet air of grump around him.]

Is this your first time at this kind of event?

[There's a very small, wry smile at that]

[Jack has come armed with index cards, and Loki's actually free of even magic duty for this one, as Sabriel's proven herself capable of providing her own subtitles.

Jack takes a moment to whip up his own, though, grinning and waggling his eyebrows as he holds up his card.]

What's a pretty girl like you doing in a place like this? ♥

[Sabriel is already smiling by the time Jack sits down, but as soon as he pulls out that card she snorts. Not to be outdone, she takes a deep breath to regain her composure and give him as charming an air as she could. While she did so, she pulled together the marks of the spell she and Billy had worked out, the tips of two of her fingers glowing with a faint golden light. Pressing those fingers to her throat, she spoke; and like a thread drawn from her voice the words stitched themselves across the air in front of her.]

Oh, you know. I'm casting my net to see how many of these charming gentlemen I can collect for myself. How about you? Anyone catch your eye?

[He laughs, brief and sharp and as unguarded as it ever is, scribbling out his retort with the well-loved sparkly purple gel pen he's been using throughout the day.]

Absolutely. But I think I'm at about all I can handle right now. The last one I picked up ended inflicting a bird upon me in case you hadn't noticed.

Ah, that's very true. But birds are not so bad...and if we're going to go completely poetical, aren't all lovers like birds? All pretty and fluttering...

[Even though Jack can't hear the volume of her voice drop, Sabriel leans in conspiratorially with a hand up to mimic her whispering something scandalous.]

And sometimes with quite nice 'peckers' on them, too!

[Of course thanks to the spell the text shows what she's said loud and clear. Hopefully anyone passing by won't notice it.]

[The yelp of her name is all he manages before he dissolves into giggles, hand that is not still scribbling clapped over his mouth (as he does, apparently, get even louder than usual these days).]

[Sabriel herself is flushed a bright shade of pink and almost doubled over the table with laughter.]

Oh, I blame ALL of you. I'll have you know I used to be a prefect at my school! And then I came here and now I'm attending house parties with alcohol and boys and...and...Dungeons and Dragons!

[He's almost settled, but snorts again when he sees that last outburst, quirking an eyebrow.]

Maybe. Although I might attribute that to you and Eugene having had more time to be a bad influence on him and thus converting him to your dastardly ways.

Just for the record, he had the weird obsession with Marmite before I ever met him.

I've heard it mentioned and I've seen it in the shops but you know, I still have no idea what exactly it is.
